Old Crow is in the far north of the Yukon Territory, Canada, 115 miles south of the nearest coastline and 30 miles east of the border with Alaska. The town has a population of less than 300 and the population are reliant on the caribou migration for an annual food supply replenishment. The fact that it is the only Yukon town that cannot be reached by car makes the airport important, and there are regular flights by Air North, the Yukon airline. They are included in the AI along with GA aircraft. I had several tries at matching up the Hawker Siddeley 748 with the right set of textures and I have included both here so that you do not have to go through the same torture. Thanks go to Hernan for sorting all that out, and for his textures. The airport is beside the town that is built along a bank of the Porcupine River. I have replicated the current shore line of the river that has cut a new channel at one end of the town, and I flattened the river as it was somewhat mountainous. The runway is gravel and just over 5,000 feet long, aligned 03-21. The terminal building is specific to Old Crow as I had photos, but the hangars are approximations and the village houses are only representational.

Dawson City is in the Yukon Territory, Canada, 140 miles south of Old Crow and about the same north of Whitehorse. The town has a population of just over 1,300 and is on the bank of the Yukon River; it is busy with nearby gold mining and tourism. There are regular flights by Air North, the Yukon airline, and I have included them in the AI along with ConAir and GA. Thanks go to Hernan for his Air North textures. The airport is beside the Klondike Highway that links Dawson City to Whitehorse, a few miles southwest of the town and the river. The runway approaches are steeper than most because of the surrounding hills and the Canada Flight Supplement notes that use is restricted to daylight hours, with some exceptions including emergencies. Runway 20 has right hand circuits. The runway is gravel and just over 5,000 feet long, aligned 02-20. There is a second apron for the activities of ConAir etc in the summer fire-fighting months. The "masts" are actually for fire hose drying; the ends of several 50 feet lengths are attached to a circular holder that is then pulled up to the top of the central pole.

This is partly part of the Small Ontario Fields series. The airport ICAO was changed from CNZ3 to CYCK in November 2012; I have left it as it was. The runway too remains as it was a few years ago. Chatham is located 50 miles east of Detroit and 150 miles southwest of Toronto, between Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie, and the airfield is southeast of the town. There is a single asphalt runway 5,000 feet long and 75 feet wide, aligned 05/23 in FS9 but in fact in real life now 06/24 due to the wandering magnetic north. The apron is on the northern side of the runway at the eastern end, with added taxiways to cater for newer hangars wearing identical colour schemes. There is fuel, runway lighting, some taxiway lights, visitor parking on the grass, and plane maintenance in the large hangar beside the small terminal building on the north side of the apron. There is a train station in the middle of the town, and no scheduled flights to the airport that is 8 miles away; these two facts may be connected. Ditches along the road and around much of the airfield provide separation, which is why the fences are not continuous. If you are on the runway and find your path to the apron blocked by another plane that is stationary at the hold short, continue past the first turnoff to the threshold markers and turn off the runway and wait. The AI plane will then taxi out and you will have a clear path.

St Thomas is a town in Ontario around 12 miles south of London and less than 10 miles from the north shore of Lake Erie, with a population of just under 40,000. The airport (actually more of an airfield, as there are no scheduled flights) has three runways typical of an ex-military field, with one remaining hangar from RCAF flight training times in the 1940's, and the east-west runway now extended to just over 5,000 feet. The main presence at CYQS is a company in the crop seeding and spraying business over a wide area of Ontario; as a result there are several AT-802 planes based there which are included here as AI planes and also as parked scenery objects. To the west of the original apron area there are added taxiways to cater for a herd of new individual hangars wearing orange and white uniforms. There is fuel, runway lighting on 09-27, taxiway lights, visitor parking on the edge of the apron, and maintenance companies in the large hangars, plus a flight training group. A small terminal building sits quietly between hangars, waiting. Ditches along the road and around much of the airfield provide separation, which is why the fences are not continuous. I presume that the warning balls on the electricity cables were found to be necessary to persuade pilots not to land there; probably ski planes in winter, they tend to land anywhere so long as it has snow on it. Prepar3D Scenery--Calgary International Airport (CYYC), Alberta, Canada. This is Ray Smith's file CYYC_RS_FSX.ZIP, modified with his permission. This airport update is for CYYC with two optional files made only for Prepar3D, one version with the crosswind runways operating where all four runways will be used for takeoff and landing and one version as the default runway operation. Assigned parking as per their website with extra parking. The Calgary Airport Authority will be implementing concourse name and gate number changes, these are now updated to this plan, the new IFP international concourse under construction with many of the buildings added, the new runway 17L/35R now included with ILS also added for it, taxiways and taxi signs updated to the latest charts, Barlow Trail NE removed, lighted helipad, extra fuel trucks, support vehicle roads rebuilt and many other scenery improvements, airport views are from inside the new control tower (when in tower view) and the old control tower dismantled. High Prairie is at 1,974 feet asl, 15 miles west of Lesser Slave Lake, 70 miles southeast of Peace River CYPE, and 90 miles east of Grande Prairie CYQU (both already posted). The town has a population of around 2,600 and is based on agriculture, forestry, and oil and gas. The initial impetus behind its growth was the routing of the railroad in 1914. The airport is around 2 miles south of the town, and is fairly basic. There is a single runway just under 4,000 feet of asphalt aligned 07-25. There is a daily flight and around 2010 this was by Central Mountain Air. I believe that there is now a newer terminal building, but a lack of information leaves the older one in place here. There are runway and taxiway lights, unlike some of my recent posts. I made this to fill in the gap between Edmonton and the airports to the northwest such as Grande Prairie.

Trail is in the valley carved out by the Columbia River, around 7 miles north of the Canada-US border and on both banks of the river. The town has a population of just under 8,000 and the main industry is mining. The airport is around 3 miles south-east of the town and on the east bank, with the runway parallel to the river and aligned 16-34, 75 feet wide and asphalt. There are currently no runway or taxiway lights, though there is an overall improvement programme in place to cope with increasing passenger demand. A new terminal building was recently completed, along with alterations to road access and parking; as I have no information regarding these road changes I have left the original "terminal" building in place and in use by Pacific Coastal, the only airline to fly to Trail. There is a Youtube video which gives a very good idea of the basic facilities, and of the surrounding hilly terrain which is similar to that at Bella Cooola at the far side of Pacific Coastal's coverage area. The original position of the airport in FS9 before I corrected it was best described as "in a hole". The hole remains nearby as there is no easy way to deal with it.

Mackenzie is around 120 miles west of Peace River and the BC/Alberta border, at the southern end of Williston Lake. The lake is 135 miles long and the population of the town is about 3,500; those figures illustrate typical Canada, a huge area enjoyed by the few. The main occupations relate to timber and mining in some form, plus tourism (in particular winter sports tourism). The airport is 2 miles southwest of the town, with no regular scheduled flights but it is not unusual to find Central Mountain Air there delivering either charter passengers or freight. The single runway is aligned 16-34 and 100 feet wide lit asphalt that is just over 5,000 feet long, with (in 2010 or so) an additional 1,500 feet of gravel. There is PAPI at both ends of the asphalt. The largest operation based at the airfield is a helicopter company, at the northern end of the apron. There is a "mandatory frequency" of 123.5 which is a Canadian invention; you MUST have a radio. There is no control tower at the actual airfield, and if or when there is no response from further afield then you announce your intentions etc. In FS9 there is no way to "switch off or on" the monitoring of a MF radio frequency so you will find that this one is always silent.

This is a scenery that I started in 2013, temporarily abandoned when I found there was a fault in the coastline that reduced it all to straight lines, and then totally forgot about. Until now, when I discovered that while I had made the Repulse Bay terminal building I had mysteriously not made the scenery. Investigation revealed the reason why and here it is with a coastline that has been repaired to the extent that the fault allowed. Repulse Bay has a population of around 1,100 and since 2015 has been officially named Naujaat, the traditional Inuit name. It is located exactly on the arctic circle on the northern extension of the western side of Hudson Bay, in a large bay off the northern tip of Southampton Island. Coral Harbour is on the far side of the island, 180 miles to the south. The airfield is alongside the town and the coast, with the runway 3,400 feet of gravel with PAPI at both ends, aligned 161T-341T with "T" standing for true as opposed to the unreliable magnetic bearing this far north. The regular scheduled flights are by Air Baffin (an Air Nunavut subsiduary), connecting to Iqaluit some 550 miles to the east. The helicopters are there in the summer with their own fuel in drums around their own parking apron. They land directly on the apron, which cannot be replicated in AI, so they are present only as parked choppers and not flying ones.
