| CYMJ 15 Wing Moose Jaw |
|
File Description:
CYMJ Moose Jaw is a Canadian Forces Base and headquarters for 15 Wing. This military airfield is situated approximately four miles south of the City of Moose Jaw. The airbase is home to the NATO Flying Training in Canada Program (CT-155 Hawk and CT-156 Harvard II aircraft) and 431 Air Demonstration (Snowbird) Squadron (CT-114 Tutor). This scenery was constructed using GMAX and represents the airport as it was in 2007 / 2008. It includes nearly all the buildings at the airport, taxiway and runway signs, as well as radar and radio transmission structures infield. CYMJ also includes a landclass file to better represent the terrain around the airport, at least as far as the limits of the default landscape will allow.

| Viscount Hunting Clan Air Transport |
|
File Description:
Formed in 1945, Hunting-Clan Air Transport was another of the well establish independants that went on to form British United. They used a fleet of Viscount 700 and 810 series to replace Vikings on trooping flights and services to Central Africa in association with Airwork. The trooping flight largely dried up however causing the sale of the 700 fleet some of which were unused. The 833 series like the Airwork examples had the large door of the 800. The middle one of a batch of three, G-APTC like the other two was built with only one window ahead of the wing on both sides. The missing window on the right hand side was added later on in its career. Requires the FSDS Viscount 800 model by Rick Piper http://www.btinternet.com/~rick.piper/index.htm

| LGSM Samos International Airport, Greece |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
LGSM Samos International Airport, Greece.
The island of Samos lies in the Eastern Aegean and is a very popular tourist destination for flights from Berlin, Munich, Gatwick, Oslo, Copenhagen, Rome and many others. It is widely regarded as the most dangerous airport in Greece, mountainous terrain requires a sharp right hand turn onto runway 09 and landings are invariably subject to strong turbulence.
The airport has been designed to sit on the excellent photoreal scenery by Dimitris Ntaskas, which is available here on Avsim and called 'samos_305814.zip'. It also uses many objects from my lgkf_kefallinia.zip scenery also available here at Avsim. The scenery has been designed for and tested with DX9 and FSXA only, if used with the default terrain many objects will be misplaced.
The scenery features a very detailed airport, repositioned according to satellite imagery and is based on real photographs. Full night lighting is included with washed lighting of the apron and carparks. The nearby town of Pythagorio has been modelled and includes some local landmarks. I have included many autogen style buildings based on photographs of Samos and also autogen trees native to the region.
The airport includes many animations, including olive trees, flags, people, windsocks, birds, road traffic and waves. Local Air traffic between the neighbouring islands of Chios, Mykonos, Kos and Rhodes is included, as is a panoramic view from inside the new tower. All the files have been sub-divided and can be switched on or off according to user preference.
Full installation instructions, settings, hints and tips can be found in the readme file. Please enjoy and I hope you like my scenery as much as I enjoyed building it.

| Smithers CYYD in British Columbia, Canada, Updated |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Made in December 2018 as an update of the original post of 2014, to correct the apron markings, revise the AI, increase the number of GA parking spots, and most importantly to correct the runway lighting by adding the missing approach lights. This scenery is complete and can be installed as-is without first installing the 2014 version. Smithers is in northwest BC, 60 miles east and a bit north of Terrace, and directly east of the southern border of Alaska. The town has a population of 5,500 and is set in a north-south valley between mountains, the most impressive of which is Hudson Bay Mountain to the west. The airport is to the north of the town and has a single runway of 7,544 feet, aligned 33-15. The main user is Central Mountain Air, who are headquartered in Smithers and have a large maintenance hangar there next to the terminal building. The airport has scheduled flights by Central Mountain Air, Jazz, and Hawk Air, which are in the AI. The AI provided here is a new CYYD traffic bgl; in total the AI also includes a Dawson Creek traffic bgl (recently revised and posted) plus a Terrace traffic bgl (which will shortly be revised and posted). An Electra of Conair (who are the largest operator of fire fighting planes in BC, and have re-fill tanks in Smithers) is included and also a HS 748 of Air North.

| Airstrips of the Falkland Islands |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Inspired by Jim Keir's Falkland Islands mesh, coastlines and landclass, herewith a couple of dozen little strips from around the area, to give the opportunity to generate a bit of GA AI (and possibly a few scheduled flights) in an otherwise relatively ignored area in the South Atlantic. Please do note, other than Stanley, most of these airstrips are just that, a cleared strip of land in an otherwise empty landscape, (just as they are in real life), simply to provide a variety of destinations for the occasional aircraft to or from Stanley.
Most of the airfield locations are listed on WikiPedia and the layout confirmed using on-line satellite imagery. Other than the two main airports, none of these airstrips seem to have "official" ICAO codes, so I've generated a selection of alpha-numeric codes in the SF0* configuration, (as Stanley Airport has the ICAO code of SFAL), so the FS9 AI engine has some codes to work with and the airfields can be found on the map. Hopefully these pseudo-codes won't clash with anything else.
As with my other sceneries, the files for each airstrip can be easily identified by the ICAO code, even if the airfield names vary slightly, so you can pick and choose and mix and match to suit any sceneries you already have, should you so wish. There is no requirement for any other download. Each airstrip will exist as a stand-alone entity should you only want a few of them.
Having said that, Paul Denton's AFCAD and scenery for EGYP Mount Pleasant (available on AVSIM and possibly elsewhere) might be considered a worthwhile addition, especially if you want to see the twice-weekly scheduled RAF flights from Brize Norton (via Ascension Island), and the Saturday LATAM flight from Chile. Suitable AFCADs for EGVN Brize Norton and SCCI Punta Arenas may also be required. Appropriate traffic files and aircraft/texture suggestions are provided.
Please read the remainder of this "blurb" in the included text file, there may be a couple of details of interest.

| YCDN Corunna Downs Station and Old Corunna Downs RAAF (Closed) |
|
File Description:
Corunna Downs heritage listed RAAF Base was a secret airfield located in scrub and spinifex country, about 16 kms south west of Marble Bar, the hottest part of the "The Pilbara" area of Western Australia. Not a very ideal place to have a tent city. Today there are very few reminders of the once busy airfield. One can see some crumbling foundations and half filled post holes. 73 OBU operated the Corunna Downs airfield which comprised two intersecting bitumen runways, now regressed and graded occasionally. One ran approximately north-south, 5,000 feet in length while the other ran approximately east-west, 7,000 feet in length. Both runways were approximately 150 feet wide. A 50 foot wide taxiway linked the northern end of the north-south runway to the western end of the east-west runway. Approximately 20 camouflaged revetments to disperse aircraft to minimise bomb damage were constructed at Corunna Downs. Permission is required for landing and there may be vegetation on the strip if not graded recently. No cones or windsock so be careful. Corunna Downs Homestead is also heritage listed and consists of graded strips and homestead complex. Start points are at the homestead and the RAAF base is to the west. | KNILM Royal Netherlands Indies Airways Douglas DC-5 'PK-ADB' |
|
File Description:
The Douglas DC-5 was a high performance, short range, feederliner quickly eclipsed by the Lockheed Lodestar. The only airline to proceed with an order for the DC-5 was KLM who purchased four for use into Amsterdam. However the invasion of Holland caused their DC-5s to be delivered equally to KLM in the Dutch West Indies and KNILM in the Dutch East Indies instead. By late 1941 all were in the Dutch East Indies, the two ex-KLM WI aircraft (PK-ADC and PK-ADD) retaining their KLM livery. In 1942 one was captured by the IJAAF. The three survivors escaped to Australia. They were soon in use with 21 sqn RAAF and Ansett-ANA supplying ANZAC forces in New Guinea. Impressed by the USAAF 1944-45 they were then designated Douglas C-110s. One returned to Ansett-ANA serving in New Guinea 1946-47 before being sold to New Holland Airways. The prototype was converted to KLM production standard and was based in Seattle as Bill Boeing's corporate VIP aircraft from April 1940. It was impressed by the USN for VIP transport duties in February 1942 becoming the only R3D-3 until its sale for scrap in January 1946. Textures only. Original textures by Wayne Tudor, revised by Maarten Brouwer.
