Backcountry airfields for 19m terrain mesh in Idaho USA Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
These four backcountry fields are for use with the FSGenesis 19m mesh of Idaho, and are Big Creek, Johnson Creek, Dixie, and Sulphur Creek Ranch. They have been revised to fit and almost certainly do not work without the 19m mesh; a quick comparison with Big Creek before and after demonstrates the difference. I also have Ultimate Terrain installed. The three ingredients of terrain mesh, UT main roads, and UT streams, along with their individual margins of error, very often create conficts of space that make a grass runway impossible to site with it's correct length. Given the choice of turning off roads or streams (the terrain mesh cannot be turned off, obviously) I chose streams; the roads are less obviously incorrect, plus it matters not if roads go uphill while a climbing stream is to be avoided. On that basis the original series is reissued here for use with the 19m terrain mesh, on the presumption that you have already downloaded the original series. There are no textures or AI included as they remain the same as the originals, and the new scenery bgl's replace the originals to get the runways and grass etc in the right positions. There will be follow-on fields that are new, and all of the new ones will be only for the 19m mesh.

Columbia SC (KCAE) Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
The Columbia Metropolitan Airport Authority has provided substantial information about KCAE online, making it possible to pretty accurately model this airport. The taxiway signs have been placed according to exhibits in the airport's certification manual, and taxiway designations have been revised in accordance with upgrades to be effective mid-Novemer 2012. Most buildings have been custom modeled in accordance with information available on the internet, including Microsoft Bing birdseye views. The airport layout and landclass changes are in accordance with Google Earth imagery. If you have Jim Dhaenens' lightobj.bgl installed, apron lighting will be included, and if you have KB_static_aircraft_FSX installed (available at www.kb-sim.com/screens_static_aircraft.html), additional parked aircraft will be visible. The layout of scenery is optimized for use with Ultimate Terrain X-USA. FSX runs smoothly with this scenery on my computer, but it has not been tested on a low-end system. Sometime after starting this project, it came to my attention that a good scenery for KCAE was already available (but not listed at www.freewarescenery.com) from Jim Hill that is another option as well as adjusting scenery complexity. The new taxiway designations are not yet shown in the latest observed FAA airport diagram. An airfield sketch provided to pilots by the Columbia Metropolitan Airport is included in the package to show the taxiway designation changes.

Southwestern British Columbia Airport Corrections Download

File Description:
As shorelines, water bodies, roads, railways and other features become more accurate in addon scenery, inaccuracies in airport placement become apparent. Although Microsoft did an excellent job of using published data to place airports, the published information is not always accurate. Some airports in the area of interest were misplaced by as much as 850m, thus conflicting with water and/or roadways. This release corrects Canadian airports in South-western British Columbia, in LOD5 cell 15x14 (915140). This area covers a portion of Vancouver Island from Duncan to Victoria, and the BC Mainland as far east as Douglas Lake and north of Pemberton. In this region CAK3, CAL3, CBT6, CYHE, CYLY, and CYPS are corrected, and Bruce Ellison has kindly modified his CAM3 for inclusion; see separate readme document for details. All these airports have been activated for AI use. A few buildings that may conflict from roads have been removed from CYNJ. The unrealistically large flatten and airport polygon at CYYJ is reduced in size. Airport features that end up in the water have been removed from CYVR and the overly large flatten there reduced. Some Rwy12 goodies have been tossed in as well, but if these are not important to the user, it is not necessary to have Rwy12 installed. Ultimate Terrain or similar accurate hydrology and roads recommended. FSGenesis 38m mesh or other high quality terrain mesh recommended.

Metro Oakland with Active Crosswind Runways Download

File Description:
A high spec AFCAD2 for the FS2004 Metro Oakland Int'l Airport (KOAK) scenery by the Mach-1 Design Group. This afcad has been built using FAA Charts, various aerial photographs and information from the Airport Website. All taxiways are named and all aprons are reworked to be as real as possible according to photos. All gates are named and have airlines assigned to them. As per real life, only Southwest Airlines will use Terminal 2, all other airlines being allocated to Terminal 1. The Fedex and UPS aprons are represented and can accomodate many cargo aircraft. The final parking area is random GA parking to the north of the airport. Overflow parking is also available for rush hour periods. This airport features a tower view and also night and approach lighting. Finally, by using the crosswind runway technique, runways 9L/27R, 9R/27L and 11/29 can all be used simultaniously for take-off and landing. Runway 15/33 is closed as it is not used in real life. An extra taxiway "Zulu" has been added (not real life) to avoid AI conflicts when using runway 29 for Takeoffs and landings. Enjoy!! Requires that you install m1dg_oak2007.zip from this site.

Alexandria Airport (N85), NJ Download

File Description:
Located 02 miles W of Pittstown, New Jersey on 75 acres of land, Alexandria Airport handles small and medium GA craft as well as helicopters. The main parking area is at the southwest of the airport between the yellow lines - static aircraft are there to show you the parking arrangment. Collision with the three static aircraft in the parking area is disabled to make it easier to park next to them should you wish. AI will spawn in this area only. Craft with wingspans greater than 40 feet should not park here. There is additional space to park on the grass north of the airport and two open hangars are also available at the north tarmac. You can get fuel by stopping anywhere around the fuel tank on the east tarmac. Trees are summer ONLY. Scenery constructed with use of satellite images/streetview, the author has not been there in person. This scenery is meant to be used in conjunction with MegaScenery Earth New Jersey/Delaware 001. It is not required, but apron use is minimized to allow satellite scenery to show through as much as possible, and objects are placed based on the MSE textures - lack of it may make scenery look out of place.

LFRV Meucon-Vannes Download

File Description:
Vannes-Meucon Airport is a regional airport in France (IATA: VNE, ICAO: LFRV). It supports general aviation with no commercial airline service scheduled. Summary of Changes: Realigned runway 9/27 to runway 8/26 (as it is in real life). Note that in FSX although this runway is not closed, ATC will never assign this runway, as it is a grass strip, and ATC prefers the asphalt 4/22 instead. IRL 4/22 is actually 3/21 but I couldn't realign this runway, as it has a localiser approach which can't be removed or moved in ADE Added taxiways B+D to allow traffic to taxi to/from the end of runway 22 via runway 8/26 without causing pileups. Whilst not completely accurate, its very close. Added fuel trucks to top end of apron, (on the charts this area is designated as a hangar, I chose not to include this, as the FSX hangars look rubbish) Note that only 1 fuel truck moves at a time. Added a few extra parking spaces. I dislike the method of using every free space for parking, so I have only included parking where LFRV really has designated parking. The airport now has 11 GA parking spaces small-medium.

CYQU - Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Grande Prairie is at 2,195 feet asl, 65 miles southeast of Dawsons Creek, 90 miles southwest of Peace River and around 60 miles east of the Rockies. The town has a population of 55,000 and growing. The airport is just to the west of the town and was originally a military base, built during WW2. The two runways are 07-25 and 11-29 and when one is the active runway then the other is used as a taxiway. AI in FS9 doesn't like this, and just stops at the first hold short without ever reaching the active runway. I have found a way to overcome this and AI will now use taxiway A and whichever runway is inactive to feed to and from both ends of the active runway. The vertical red tanks are for de-icing fluid; de-icing is carried out before take-off in the winter. The industrial area to the southeast is now larger than I have made it, but I kept it to this minimum size to keep frame rates down. All the buildings are modeled specifically for CYQU. The AI includes Westjet, Air Canada Jazz, and others as listed. The GA AI uses only FS9 standard aircraft.

CYHD - Dryden Regional - Ontario, Canada * Updated v2 * Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This greatly modifies my previous (2009) post of Dryden; this version has bespoke buildings and is stand-alone and does not require you to have the previous post. There will also be follow-up posts of Sioux Lookout and Geraldton. Dryden is in northern Ontario, 110 miles east of the Manitoba border, 40 miles west of Sioux Lookout, and with the US border 90 miles to the south. The town is on the northern shore of Wabigoon Lake and has a population of around 7,800. The main business is pulp and paper, along with agriculture, tourism, and mining. The airport is 5 miles northeast of the town. Dryden Regional has 6,000' of asphalt which in FS9 is aligned 11-29. The second runway is compacted sand 2,000' long and aligned 05-23. There are two aprons, the western being for the terminal building and some ga parking, and the eastern larger and used in the summer for parking fire fighting planes, along with maintenance hangarage and accomodation etc. The Ontario Fire Service planes were included with my original Geraldton post and are included here again; they fly back and forth and keep Dryden busy along with several Bearskin Airlines and Perimeter Aviation flights.

Piper PA-23 Apache Panel Upgrade (2D and VC) Download

File Description:
If you’ve flown in Lynn and Bill Lyon’s Piper PA-23 Apache then you’ll likely know where I’m coming from when I say it’s one of the best payware old GA aircraft models out there. Like the Maule and a few others, it’s one of the few freeware packages out there that could have easily been released as payware (and I think may have initially been payware), and I for one, am very grateful it was not. However, one of the big gripes with the Apache’s package is the lack of a DME display unit to couple with the Collins multi-comms/avionics gauge, a directional gyro with a heading bug and a suitable autopilot insert to bind the avionics to one AP unit. Initially the PA-23 was sold as an IFR capable plane, with the autopilot being either “good trimming” or the person in the right seat flying the plane. In the decades which followed, autopilots and updated gear became commonplace and most Piper PA-23’s were outfitted with modern avionics. This upgrade will replace the bank indicator with a Directional Gyro w/ Heading Bug, add a DME indicator, and add a Bendix/King KAP 140 autopilot controller.
