Pacific Western AI Aardvark Boeing 737-200 Download

File Description:
Pacific Western, repaint for the AI_Aardvark 737-200. By RotorRick Deckard. Freeware, textures only, requires AI_Aardvark 737-200 basepack. Pacific Western was a Canadian airline based in the western provinces, back when I was growing up, and I saw their planes all the time. They merged into CP Air, which turned into Canadian Airlines when they also took Wardair. And Canadian Airlines exists no longer either, having been absorbed by Air Canada, many of their staff were let go, and less desirable planes sold off to discount airlines. Pacific Western, in parnership with Boeing, pionered a modification to the 737-200 that enabled it to land on gravel runways! Yes, no joke, with several of the destination runways up near the arctic circle, these runways wouldn't survive the ground temperature changes if they were more common paved or concrete runways. Anyway, I don't know many details, but I do know it involved a large beaver board attached to the rear of the nosegear wheels (which looks very much like that on the Antarctic mission C-130's the US uses to support missions down under), and vortex generators to blow in front of the engines on landing. This is all done to keep the low slung engines from ingesting any FOD. Since that time, such strips are more commonly visited by the Boeing 727, which has it's engines better protected and is generally more suited to such special purposes. See here for more info: http://airlines.afriqonline.com/airlines/205.htm http://www.airtimes.com/cgat/ca/pwa.htm This airline has operated the 707, Lockheed C-130 Hercules (actually L-100 variant), 767-200 and many other planes, but they were always primarily a 737-200 based airline.

LFMQ - Le Castellet Download

File Description:
Welcome to Le Castellet Airfield - This airfield is situated few Nm east of Marseille Provence - LFML, in the south of France. On the 1,000 hectares of plateau he acquired between Marseille and Toulon, Paul Ricard, forever motivated by innovation and development, constructed in 1962 the largest private airfield in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

The landing strip at Le Castellet covered a distance of 1,000 metres and allowed for VFR (Visual Flight Rules) operation. Situated on a plateau at the time free of all economic development, it was above all a private airfield. In 1970, the construction of the Paul Ricard Circuit nearby created an economic dynamic for the first time on Le Castellet plateau. In 1972, Paul Ricard invested in improvements to the runway, lengthening it from 1,000 to 1,750 metres, thus rendering it capable of receiving business and private airplanes of up to 38 tonnes.
Over twenty years, Le Castellet Airport saw intense periods of activity due to business and private aviation, notably with the arrival of the first F1 French Grand Prix on the Paul Ricard Circuit in 1971, and more recently, with the creation of the Entreprise Zone at Signes, situated only a few kilometres from the airfield. Stop by for an amazing visit at the medieval village as well, situatued on top of a hill.
Nevertheless, from 1972 to 1999, no investment was made at the airfield. In May 1999, the company Excelis S.A. purchased the site (airfield and circuit) and refurbished and modernised the installations.
A truly amazing place to fly to - I have enhanced the entire apron as it is today, all marking correctly set, acces to runway and the Heli area for the "Eggbeater" fan :) includes the hangar, building and other things around. Hope you'll enjoy your stay at "Le castellet"!

Peters Airport (4NJ8), NJ v1.1 Download

File Description:
Located 05 miles W of Somerville, New Jersey on 70 acres of land, Peters Airport is a private turf strip that will test your short field skills to the max. The published runway dimensions for this strip are 1700x200 feet, and for the most case this is fairly accurate - however at the ends of both runways you have tree obstacles to overcome so this can shorten the amount of usable runway significantly, although the tree obstacles are no higher than 12-14m. There is no hardened runway surface so you will be landing/taking off on terrain. Depending on how high your mesh resolution is, this can be a significant factor, as Runway 31 is mainly uphill enough that you will need to power up with parking brakes on if you want to make it in the air. Runway 13 is the best since you are going downhill and the trees at the end are fewer and smaller. Pay close attention to the pattern! Runway 13 is Left and Runway 31 is Right - this airport is within 2 miles of Solberg-Hunterdon (N51) and you don't want to get in the way of that field's traffic! The runway is not lit, so daytime VFR operations only. There are no services at this strip for transient aircraft.

Scenery constructed with use of satellite images/streetview/aerial photos - the author has not been there in person. This scenery is meant to be used in conjunction with MegaScenery Earth New Jersey/Delaware 001. It is not required, but apron use is minimized to allow satellite scenery to show through as much as possible, and objects are placed based on the MSE textures - lack of it may make scenery look out of place.

Bryce Canyon National Park (KBCE), Utah, Photo-Scenery Download

File Description:
Bryce Canyon National Park (KBCE), Utah, Photo-Scenery (FS9 & FSX)

Despite its name, Bryce Canyon is not actually a canyon that was formed by a river, but rather a giant natural cliff shaped through erosion by wind, water, and ice. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological formations, delicate and colorful pinnacles called hoodoos that are up to 200ft high. The bizarre forms and red, orange and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views. Unfortunately the hoodoos are too small for the elevation mesh in flight simulator. But you can enjoy the colors and shape of the cliffs. The cliffs in main region of the park, just south of the airport are partly covered by snow. But on the southern and western part of the plateau you can enjoy them free of snow. Bryce Canyon is named after the Mormon pioneer Ebenezer Bryce who settled in this area in the 1850s. It was designated as a national park in 1928.

Bryce Canyon Airport (KBCE) just handles small aircraft on a daily basis. But is was actually built to handle larger aircraft in case of emergency. And so on Oct.6th 2000 an American Airlines MD-82 from Denver to Los Angeles made a successful emergency landing after reporting smoke in the cockpit and a loss of cabin pressure.
High resolution versions of this scenery for FS9 and FSX (much sharper, but larger and multiple downloads)are available at www.blueskyscenery.com/CNY_South2West4.html . The screenies are taken from the high-res versions, so expect this version to be slightly more blurry. Thanks to Joop Mak for providing a custom AFCADs that correct airport layouts so that they align with the photo-textures! They are available here: www.blueskyscenery.com/AFCADs.html . Echo Bay CAA7 in British Columbia, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is the fifth in a series of new and renovated float bases in BC. Echo Bay is a floating marina on the northwest coast of Gilford Island, just 6 miles northwest of Health Bay (the previous post in this series). It is run by a beard called Pierre and his wife, and the food seems to attract crowds. Watch the video, and others about the marina; some of the more interesting buildings are replicated here, others are representative. There is no fuel or oil available but you can post a letter as there is a post office in the store that sells food etc to boaters. The AI is a further adaptation of the CF36 AI and involves a Baxter Beaver flying from Port Hardy on a round trip in the area through Port McNeill, Health Bay, Echo Bay, and Sullivan Bay, plus Harbour Air from Vancouver, and small GA. At Echo Bay the AI appears to work for both landing and takeoff for the Beaver and sometimes for the Otter, depending on wind direction. All of these float bases can be installed together in the same folders, with a saving in duplicate textures. So a series called BC Floats (or whatever you want to call it) or individually installed float bases; your choice. The next in the series will be Sullivan Bay, another floating marina. I have used what was a RWY12 boat here, but my RWY12 no longer includes the "Port and Sea" part that included this and other boats. Somewhere I must still have the textures as they are showing up as required, but I cannot find them to include them here. Hopefully your installation will find them on your hard drive and use them. If not, complain to me and I will attempt to demonstrate diligence.

Piaggio P-149D FS-X DX9 Edition Download

File Description:
This is a re-edition of the Piaggio P-149D with FS-X retail\SP1\2\Accel DX9 compatibility (DX10 users need to convert textures). The original model for FS-2004 is MN_P149D.zip + P149_FIX.zip available on AVSIM & www.mariopilot.6x.to. P_149_fix.zip is already included in this FS-X update. The Piaggio P-149 is a trainer-laison aircraft. It first flew in June 19th, 1953. I'ts a development of the P-148 model, with increased seat cpacity, tricycle retractable landing gear and a more powerful engine, featuring a three-bladed constant speed propeller. It was mainly used by German Luftwaffe as a training aircraft, that oredred 75 examples in 1955. Later in 1957 another 190 were manufactured under licence by Focke-Wulf. The D version is the one employed by Luftwaffe, while later some few P-149CH variants were used by Swissair as flying schools, and a few P-149U variants, with a new tailplane section to allow more rotation clearance on takeoff were used by Ouganda's Air Force. The P-149 Has a seating capacity of 4 with some examples being certified for 5 (both cases including pilot) and it's fully aerobatic, having G-limits set at +7\-4.5. After training activities ceased with Luftwaffe, several are still flying under civilian operators. This gMAX model features completely 3-D virtual cocpkit and cabin with advanced night lighting and custom special effects, plus a sound package recorded from the real thing. Simulates all systems onboard the real aircraft, coming with panel instructions. Flight Dynamics are built using only real data based on the 1% spreadsheet plus lots of manual tweaking for fine tuning. Read Notes before flying please... Enjoy! Notes and documentation are the htm files in the P-149D aircraft folder.

Consolidated PBY-5 RNZAF 6 Sqn XX-W Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
A repaint for the Aerosoft PBY-5 Catalina in the colors of NZ4020 XX-W of the RNZAF. Bu08435, it flew with 6 Flying Boat Squadron. Following Japan's entry into the war in December 1941, the RNZAF had to switch from primarily training pilots to Europe into a combat force. No. 6 Squadron RNZAF was formed as an army co-operation unit at Milson in February 1942 flying Vickers Vildebeest and Hawker Hind aircraft. At the same time, No. 5 Squadron RNZAF moved to Fiji with Short Singapores and Vickers Vildebeest and Vincent biplanes. Modern maritime patrol flying boats (and more Hudson light bombers) were requested under Lend Lease and when the first Consolidated Catalinas arrived a detachment of men from No. 5 Squadron was assigned to convert to these types as No. 6 Squadron. Before the squadron was officially formed these men successfully completed their first air-sea rescue of a downed US aircrew. From May 1943 No. 6 squadron undertook action against the Japanese. The Squadron also conducted search and rescue missions for allied aircrew and seamen, and undertook many open sea rescues. XX-W arrived in Fiji on 21 October 1943. On February 18, 1944 it took off on a dumbo rescue mission to north Buka Island and landed to rescue two crew members and pick up a dead body from the crash of B-25, and successfully returned them to Halavo. On 26 May 1945, it stalled on landing at Hobsonville and was towed to its mooring by a crash boat. The induced damage resulted in the aircraft being written off charge on 18 June 1945. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Aerosoft

RAF Tholthorpe Download

File Description:
RAF Tholthorpe opened in the late 1930s as a grass airfield, and operated as a sub-station of RAF Linton-on-Ouse. From August 1940 to December 1940, Tholthorpe was a landing field for Whitley bombers of No. 58 Squadron RAF and No. 51 Squadron RAF based at Linton. From January 1941 to June 1943, Tholthorpe underwent maintenance to upgrade to Class A standards, with three intersecting concrete runways. RAF Tholthorpe was assigned to No. 6 Group RCAF in June 1943. RCAF squadrons stationed here included No. 434 Squadron "Bluenose", 431 Squadron "Iroquois", 420 Squadron "Snowy Owl", and 425 Squadron "Alouette". No. 434 Squadron, flying Halifax bombers, was formed and headquartered at Tholthorpe airfield from June 1943 until the squadron was moved to Croft. In July 1943, 431 Squadron moved to Tholthorpe airfield from Burn. It was later moved to Croft airfield as well. Not only were the operational squadrons quartered here, also their service echelons, - respectively Nos. 9431 and 9434 Service Echelon - which were formed from the ground crew of nos. 431 and 434 Squadron on 3 November 1943 and who moved with their squadrons on to Croft in December 1943. In December 1943 No. 420 and No. 425 Squadrons (together with their service echelons, nos. 9420 and 9425 Service Echelon were moved to Tholthorpe airfield from Dalton and Dishforth respectively. These squadrons had returned from service with Wellingtons in North Africa, and it took them several weeks to work up on the newly acquired Halifax bombers. They were therefore unable to fly their first raids from Tholthorpe until mid-February 1944. No. 420 Squadron flew 160 operations from Tholthorpe airfield and lost 25 Halifax’s. No. 425 squadron flew 162 operations from Tholthorpe airfield and lost 28 Halifax’s. In all, 119 Halifax bombers were lost from Tholthorpe. In April and May 1945 nos. 420 and 425 Squadron converted to Avro Lancaster’s, which they took with them when they left for RCAF Debert, Nova Scotia, Canada in June 1945. The station closed in June 1945.
