| Northern Canada Mining CYOA & CHB3 in Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
These are two airfields in northern Canada, serving two mining operations. The furthest north is Hope Bay CHB3 in Nunavut. It is in a sheltered inlet less than 3 miles from the northern mainland coast and around 65 miles southwest of Cambridge Bay. The owner is Hope Bay Mining Ltd, and their operation mines gold out of a tunnel rather than open cast. The airfield is incorporated into the road that leads north to the sea; traffic is halted by traffic lights when a flight is expected. The runway is 3,000 feet of gravel aligned 01-19 and with PAPI at both ends.
The second airfield serves the Ekati diamond mine and is some 265 miles southwest of Hope Bay, in the Northwest Territories. Ekati was the first Canadian diamond mine and is 195 miles northeast of Yellowknife and less than 20 miles north of a later mine, Diavik (by Sid and Pete). CYOA reflects the relative value of the two mining operations and is far better equipped than Hope Bay. It can be described as an airport while Hope Bay remains an airfield. The runway is 6,400 feet of gravel aligned 36-18 with PAPI and strobe approach lights at both ends. The scale of the mining operation can only be described as huge.

| Port McNeill CAT5 in British Columbia, Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Port McNeill is at the northern end of Vancouver Island, on the coast and around 20 miles east of Port Hardy. The town population is just over 2,000 and the main industry is logging, followed by sand and gravel quarrying and exporting for the construction industry. Tourism rates third.
The airport, a mile or so east of the town, provides a swift connection for nearby islands and the surrounding area to the rest of the west coast, and serves as the HQ main base for West Coast Helicopters. Their newly built large hangar and office accommodation is next to their older hangar to one side of the central public parking area, opposite the club house cum terminal and hangars. There are two runways: 06-24 which is asphalt, 2,400 feet long, and lit; and 11-29 of gravel, 3,650 feet long and also lit. There is some taxiway lighting, but not, for instance, for the connection between runways, which is in real life a ramp up to the gravel runway which is 15 feet higher. There are no regularly scheduled flights and traffic consists mainly of the West Coast helicopters, plus GA and irregular charters, the latter being mostly from Port Hardy.

| Shaktoolik 2C7 in Alaska |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Shaktoolik is a coastal village 35 miles north of Unalakleet, with a fishing population of around 250. It was originally established inland on the Shaktoolik River but moved to the coast in 1933. Due to storms and erosion it was again moved in 1967, to its current location 2 miles further north. Confusingly, what is called "New Shaktoolik 38A" was in fact only "new" in 1967 and has since been replaced by "Shaktoolik 2C7" further north, built on wider land with a longer gravel runway of 4,000 feet. 38A is still visible but unusable, with the sheds being used for other purposes. There are flights from Unalakleet, included in the AI here as a further modification to the Bethel PABE AI. A note here about my scenery making. This is post number 500 and there will not be many more to follow this as I am almost at the end of the photos I either took or found for scenery purposes. There is a limit to what can be located online and I have already been making use of the little there is; eg Unalakleet. So, if you are near an airport (preferably Canadian or Alaskan) and have a camera..... Let me know.

| RAF Bovingdon EGWX 1955 |
|
File Description:
Bovingdon was a London airport of some importance and used as an alternate by (at least) BOAC and Pan Am after the Second World War, partly because its elevation of just over 500 feet made it less subject to poor visibility than London Heathrow. It had been built for RAF four-engined bombers near the village of Bovingdon in Hertfordshire and was used by Bomber Command from June 1942 but transferred to the US Eighth Air Force in August. They only flew operational missions with B-17s for a brief period and after that it was employed for crew training until September 1944 when it became the base for the European Air Transport Service. It was returned to the RAF in 1947 but handed over for use by civilian airlines while retaining significant military roles. The RAF Fighter Command Communication Squadron was based there and in 1951 the USAF assigned the C-47s of the 7531st Air Base Squadron to it, though other USAF types visited in large numbers on a transitory but routine basis. The USAF left in October 1962 but the RAF remained there until the airfield was closed in 1972. This scenery recreates Bovingdon, with period traffic, as it was in 1955.

| Schefferville CYKL & Squaw Lake CSZ9 in Quebec Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Schefferville is a town in an area of Quebec that is surrounded by Labrador, the border taking an unusual wriggly course instead of the normal Canadian straight line. One has to presume that there was a lot of political negotiation involved. Take a look at Google Earth to see what I mean. The town was established in 1954 (initially at a site a bit north of the present location, and with a different name) to support newly established iron ore mining. To assist with the exploration for further iron ore and the construction of the railway it seems that there was a forced relocation of native population. Although iron ore mining around Schefferville in its current location flourished through the late 1960's these relocated folk were neglected and suffered "destitute poverty". Through the 1970's iron ore mining declined and ceased in Schefferville in 1982, when most of the 4,000 or so non-native residents left. Since the year 2000 there have been moves to reopen mining in the area and production restarted in 2011, the approximate date of this scenery. The main reason why iron ore mining started again in Schefferville as opposed to any other area in Quebec or Labrador is the existing railway, used for ore transportation. There is no road connection and the airport is the only other means of access for the 250(?) town inhabitants. This population figure is somewhat of a guess, and the town inhabitants are largely company officers who change and move in and out as required by their work. Schefferville airport is to the east of the town. It has a single lit asphalt runway that is aligned 18-36 and is 4,975 feet long and 150 feet wide, with PAPI at both ends. Air Inuit flights connect with Kuujjuaq to the north and Sept-Isles to the south with onward connections to all parts of Canada. There are other charter flights for company personnel. The terminal building has been renovated and the photos show just how dilapidated it had become before this was done. I like it. This scenery also includes Squaw Lake, a float base that is used by Air Saguenay. Or was, as the company was closed in 2019 after an accident involving several deaths. The reason for Air Saguenay establishing a float base here was, once again, the railway, which allowed people to reach Schefferville for a reasonable cost. They could then use the float planes for a shorter distance and reasonable price to reach fishing lodges on the lakes to the north. | AN-124 PANEL |
|
File Description:
Hello to all you flightsimmers,...After I've been profiting for years downloading stuff made by others [and enjoying it very much] I thought it was about time to create something myself. For about two or three years ago there was an Antonov AN-124 parked at the Dutch airport of Beek near the city of Maastricht. Just before the aircraft was to be sold on an auction there was the opportunity to take some pictures of the in and outside of the plane. An opportunity I gladly took. Here are the results. I hope I did not offend anyone using their gauges because it's quite impossible to ask every individual permission for all the 210 gauges I used, but I would gladly take the opportunity here of thanking them for the use of them..........Please NOTE:I did not create any of the gauges used for this panel myself and therefore do not earn any credit for them or whatsoever...........Half of them for instance are of MICROSOFT [Copyright]....I tried to stay as close to the original design of the AN-124 cockpitt, however in some cases I had to alter some things due to the lack of available ID light gauges. Furthermore it was not always possible to see whàt instrument it was that I saw on the photopicture. Anyway ENJOY!!!!.

File Description:
MALEV Hungarian Airlines Boeing B737-7Q8 (HA-LOL) repaint, one of 7 currently in Malev fleet. Mal©v Hungarian Airlines (Hungarian: Magyar L©gik¶zleked©si V¡llalat, abbreviated Mal©v) is the flag carrier and principal airline of Hungary. It has its head office in the Lurdy House in Budapest, with its main operations at Budapest Ferihegy International Airport. From there, the airline flies to 50 cities in 34 countries worldwide using a fleet of 22 airplanes. Mal©v is a member of the Oneworld alliance, joining 29 March 2007.[2] Mal©v - the accent indicates that the E is long, and the first syllable is always stressed in Hungarian, so the name is pronounced MAH-lev. The company's logo was designed by L¡szl³ Zs³t©r in 1989. Aircraft is hand painted, using iFly paintkit, with some slight modifications in order to represent real HA-LOL in best possible way. Textures are saved in 32 bit format, for best image quality.

| AeroSur Boeing 767-284/ER "Sharko" (CP-2659) |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
I am quite proud to present this very detailed and accurate repaint of Aerosur's Boeing 767-284/ER logojet named "Sharko", in the Project Opensky B762 V4 model. This logojet of Aerosur of Bolivia turns heads wherever she goes. She joins a rather large group of other AeroSur logojets, forming a total complement of 8. This aircraft flies into Miami (KMIA) and Dulles (KIAD) in the USA.
This repaint is almost 100% hand painted. All artwork is hand rendered except the AeroSur Eagle logo. Custom textures included in this repaint are; hand-painted realistic 3D windows with window shades, custom tires, custom night textures (and alpha), custom fuselage shading, tug with AeroSur logo, stewardess is a an actual AeroSur stewardess in AeroSur uniform, interior exit signs in Spanish (SALIDA), custom fuselage shading and many others. The screen shots included with this package showcase this detailed repaint and the outstanding Miami International Airport (KMIA) scenery recently released by LatinVFR. Fuselage, engine, wing and tail textures are 32-bit with no mips for best clarity and quality. As this has been one of the most enjoyable and challenging repaints for me, I hope you enjoy flying this wonderful aircraft as much as I did creating it. This is a complete install and contains all Project Opensky provided files current to Version 2004.8.0. The sound is from the default B737.
