| Lac des Plages grass strip in Quebec Canada |

Lac des Plages is in Quebec on the north shore of the lake (and village) of the same name, some 55 miles northeast of Ottawa. It is an old grass strip and next to a tourist trailer park ("caravan" to the English). The runway is almost north-south and 2,200 feet long, and I went there to see if it is still in use. It is in good condition but there was nobody to ask (in early April) if it is still used and nobody turned up see if a plane had landed. I doubt if it is used regularly as there are no "wear" marks that show up on a grass strip, and the flare pots (actually old wheel rims with charcoal in them?) beside the runway could have been lit three months ago or three years ago, there was no way to tell. The single hangar is obviously no longer in use as a hangar, and the lack of a fence between the trailers and the grass strip would be a danger to pilot and strolling pedestrian alike. However, the runway still exists and here it is and as in real life the northern end slopes unevenly up.

| Schefferville CYKL & Squaw Lake CSZ9 in Quebec Canada |

Schefferville is a town in an area of Quebec that is surrounded by Labrador, the border taking an unusual wriggly course instead of the normal Canadian straight line. One has to presume that there was a lot of political negotiation involved. Take a look at Google Earth to see what I mean. The town was established in 1954 (initially at a site a bit north of the present location, and with a different name) to support newly established iron ore mining. To assist with the exploration for further iron ore and the construction of the railway it seems that there was a forced relocation of native population. Although iron ore mining around Schefferville in its current location flourished through the late 1960's these relocated folk were neglected and suffered "destitute poverty". Through the 1970's iron ore mining declined and ceased in Schefferville in 1982, when most of the 4,000 or so non-native residents left. Since the year 2000 there have been moves to reopen mining in the area and production restarted in 2011, the approximate date of this scenery. The main reason why iron ore mining started again in Schefferville as opposed to any other area in Quebec or Labrador is the existing railway, used for ore transportation. There is no road connection and the airport is the only other means of access for the 250(?) town inhabitants. This population figure is somewhat of a guess, and the town inhabitants are largely company officers who change and move in and out as required by their work. Schefferville airport is to the east of the town. It has a single lit asphalt runway that is aligned 18-36 and is 4,975 feet long and 150 feet wide, with PAPI at both ends. Air Inuit flights connect with Kuujjuaq to the north and Sept-Isles to the south with onward connections to all parts of Canada. There are other charter flights for company personnel. The terminal building has been renovated and the photos show just how dilapidated it had become before this was done. I like it. This scenery also includes Squaw Lake, a float base that is used by Air Saguenay. Or was, as the company was closed in 2019 after an accident involving several deaths. The reason for Air Saguenay establishing a float base here was, once again, the railway, which allowed people to reach Schefferville for a reasonable cost. They could then use the float planes for a shorter distance and reasonable price to reach fishing lodges on the lakes to the north. | Churchill Falls CZUM in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada |

File Description:
Churchill Falls is a small town on the Churchill River, around 230 miles north of the Gulf of St Lawrence coast and 120 miles east of Labrador City. It is a company-built town for the staff and families that work in the generating station associated with the falls. The falls were first discovered in the 1830's and work on the generating station commenced in 1967. The runway is 5,500 feet of asphalt aligned 13-31, with PAPI and approach lighting at both ends, and the apron at the eastern end. The buildings are well replicated here and the AI includes both GA flights and the daily flights by Provincial Airways, along with a medical transport service. There is a dock for float planes on a nearby lake that is no longer in regular use and officially listed as closed, but the dock remains there and is included here.

This airport update is for CYVR with two optional files made only for FSX: one version with the Crosswind runway activated where all 3 runways will be used for takeoff/landing and one version as the default FSX runway operation: assigned parking as per their website with extra parking including a gate for the A380, the crosswind runway corrected to 13/31 and the approaches corrected for it, runway 08C/26C decommissioned and is now taxiway A, the Canada Post Pacific Processing centre and Ferguson Rd also included, taxiways and taxi signs updated to the latest charts, start locations added to two of the helipads, extra fuel trucks, support vehicle roads rebuilt and many other scenery improvements included, airport views are from the roof of the control tower (when in tower view) please view the readme before installation.

FS2002 Scandinavian Airlines System DC-7C and DC-7F. The DC-7C's of SAS became famous for opening the polar route from Europe to Japan, flying from Copenhagen to Tokyo via Anchorage, Alaska. SAS used 15 DC-7C and two DC-7F in 1956-68. Four liveries (early, middle and late) included. Repaint by Jens B Kristensen of original model by Greg Pepper and Tom Gibson, flight dynamics by FS Aviator. Panel and sounds must be downloaded seperately.

File Description:
Don Sheldon was one of the great early bush pilots in Alaska. He was the founder of Talkeetna Air Service and the first person to routinely fly support (and rescue) for climbers on Mt. McKinley. In the early 1950's he built this cabin to serve as a base for these flights. The Sheldon family still own the cabin and it is rented out to climbers and others who just want to spend some time on the mountain.

This is a GPS approach for those interested in the ability to get into Hank's Trading Post, located on the Taku River southeast of Juneau, Alaska. This freeware scenery is available on Avsim.com and is compatible with Holger Sandman's Glacier Bay scenery. With so few land based navaids available, the GPS system is quickly becoming the approach of choice in this region.
Included in this download is the missing flightplan file I neglected in the earlier release.
