| Hawaiian Air 1998 AI Package |

Hawaiian Air was a shell of itself in the Transpacific market in 1998 compared to today, while it was fiercely competing with Aloha Airlines in the intra-Hawaii market. DC-10-10s preformed all Long Haul flights as well as those to the USA, while a fleet of DC-9-50s competed with Aloha between the islands. At the time, all flights from OGG to the mainland actually originated in Honolulu and made a stop in Maui in each direction on which no tickets were sold between HNL\OGG. LAX was used as a stop over point as well for flights between HNL\OGG and LAS. All mainland flights from HNL were daily while flights to other destinations in the Pacific and between the mainland and OGG were operated only a few days per week. HNL-LAX was the busiest route for the DC-10, with 3 daily flights. The MD-80s, other DC-9 variants, and the DHC-7s were gone by 1998, but the DC-9-50s still served the smaller airports of LNY and MKK(even with some very short flights between the two) at the time which were soon after abandoned until Ohana by Hawaiian was launched in recent years with ATR-42s. The PBY Catalina is probably the best known flying boat with over 4000 produced by Consolidated aircraft and licensees. The Black Cat squadrons all done in flat black played havoc particularly for the Japanese in the Pacific in WWII. Fitted with radar, with a 15 hour endurance and 2800 mile range they hunted Japanese naval ships and bombed or torpedoed them by the hundreds. This a fairly accurate rendition of the PBY except that the retractable pontoons are missing. Why? Well basically after using all the tricks I know I ran out of parts. There are 6 engine nacelles used in the model, 2 represent the 1200 HP radial engines driving the props, the others are jets with 5 lbs of thrust, 1 is used for the rear fuselage section, 1 is used for the wing pylon, 1 is used for the flare from the fuselage to the vertical stabilizer and the last is used for the forward observation and gunner space. Two are not used. Wing sections are taken up by the main wing and the support spars so there you go. The fuel tanks are used for the side gunner pods since these can be decorated separately. The plane flies very well and is stable. Takeoffs from water are quite easy as long as you don't dip a wing tip (no floats remember). This aircraft model and the paint scheme is copyright by Robert App, January 2003. Feel free to alter the paint scheme and instrument panel as long as you give me credit for the original design. This folder contains a repaint for the freeware Grumman Mallard by Milton Shupe and LDR development. It shows VH-TGA, which was Mallard c/n J13 as used by Trans Australia Airlines in mid 1963 on the "Coralair Service".
This airframe was constructed in late 1946 and delivered to Canada on 25-01-1947 as CF-FFG. By mid 1951 it was in Indonesia as PK-AKG with an offshoot of Shell Oil. It then moved to the Netherlands New Guinea register as JZ-POB in 1955. It eventually became VH-TGA in 1962 with East Coast Airlines followed by a transfer to Trans Australia Airlines in mid 1963 and used on the "Coralair Service". It was ferried into Auckland on 13-10-1963 and became ZK-CDV on the 15th for Utah-Williamson-Burnett at Invercargill. It still had some hydraulic problems as its nosewheel collapsed on 07-10-1964 at Invercargill. It was purchased in about 1969 by the Department of Internal Affairs and went to NAC in Christchurch for some refurbishment and a paint job before being cancelled on 21-02-1969 and marked up as VQ-FBC. This was for Air Pacific with whom it carried the name "Na Secala". It was withdrawn from use in Fiji on 04-10-1970 and cancelled from their register on 31-03-1971 for transfer to the US as N2442H the following day. It has soldiered on ever since; moving to Canada as C-GRZI for about a year in 1978 before returning to the US again. In June of 1993 it was sold to Steve Hamilton of Reno Nevada, who re-registered it as N2950 in March of 1998. It is still current.

| Goodyear FG-1D Corsair VF-17 #29 Lt Kepford |

This folder contains a repaint for the FG-1D Corsair by Milviz, in the colors of F4U-1 BuNo 55995 of VF-17, the aircraft flown by Lt (jg) Ira C. Kepford, Bougainville, February 1944. Ira Cassius Kepford was born in Harvey, Illinois, on May 29, 1919, son of George Raymond and Emma McLaughlin Kepford. His family moved to Muskegon, Michigan, shortly after he was born. An all-around athlete at Muskegon High School from 1935-1937, he capped his prep career by being named an All-State back in his senior year. He enrolled at Northwestern University in 1938 to study for a dentistry career.
He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve on August 18, 1941, and was honorably discharged on April 29, 1942, to accept appointment as Aviation Cadet, U.S.N.R. After flight training at the Naval Air Stations, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Miami, Florida, he became a Naval Aviator on November 5, 1942, and was commissioned Ensign, U.S.N.R., with date of rank October 16, 1942.
Detached from Naval Air Station, Miami, Florida, in December 1942, he served with Fighting Squadron 17 in the Pacific War Area until March 1944, where he became the U.S. Navy's leading ace, scoring a record 16 confirmed Japanese planes destroyed. That squadron won the Navy Unit Commendation and he was personally awarded the Navy Cross, a Gold Star in lieu of the second Navy Cross, the Silver Star Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
From March until June he was attached to the Fleet Air, Alameda, Command, and the last six months of that year served with Fighting Squadron 84. In December 1944 he was transferred to the staff of Commander Fleet Air, West Coast, and remained in that assignment throughout the remaining period of hostilities. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom.

Sydney is a maritime port on the east coast of Canada, on the eastern corner of Cape Breton Island. It was founded in 1785 and grew in size emormously from 1900 as a steel mill was founded that prospered along with local coal mines until 1950 or so. After that date and following the final closure of the mill in 2001 the population declined to the current 29,000 or so. The airport is 3 or 4 miles southwest and inland of a coastal urban area which stretches from New Waterford in the north through Lingan, Dominion, Reserve Mines, and Glace Bay, to Port Caledonia, and 5 miles east of the town of Sydney which is beside a sheltered deep water harbour area. This version is not from a fixed date as although I had video of some of the buildings from 2010 I inadvertently constructed part of the apron layout from 2018 information, and then decided to keep it like that either because I liked it or perhaps was too lazy to redo it. The terminal building and the garages to the east of the terminal are original and old, though renovated and maintained to a fairly good standard. The other buildings on the airport are "hangars" in the expected form, with steel frames, insulated cladding, and pitched roofs. The airport publicises it's ability to cater for all the needs of visiting aircraft, with a large FBO hanger just beside the terminal. There are (or were, before the virus came along) scheduled flights by Westjet, Air Canada Jazz, and Air North, which are included in the AI along with GA flights. The runways are 07-25 at 7,000 feet and with PAPI on 25 and ILS on 07, and 01-19 at 6,000 feet with PAPI on 01 and ILS on 19. You will see once the scenery is installed that there are two folders in Sydney CYQY called "Scenery summer" and "scenery winter". Editing the folder name down from "scenery summer" to just "scenery" results in FS9 loading the summer ground textures and parked planes etc. In February you would edit down the "scenery winter" folder to just "scenery" and the unused and unswept taxiways, runway, and aprons will be invisible under the snow, the open-topped cars will not be parked in the open, and privately-owned planes will be in the hangars. If FS9 decides that there is snow on the ground then you need the winter textures, if not then the summer textures. The winter textures are not the full-snowdrift-middle-of-Winter-gale type and are more like early or late winter. One thing you must NOT DO is to edit both folders down at the same time.

Built by Boeing of Canada at Vancouver, it became RCAF Canso 9767 on March 4, 1943, and was allocated to Squadron 162, coded S, at Reykjavik, Iceland. In 1944, piloted by Flying Officers Thomas Charles Cooke and Eric Walter Wiskin, 9767 sank the German U-boat U-342 off the coast of Iceland on April 17. The amphibian was removed from the military service on April 1, 1946. The same year it was sold to Canadian Pacific Airlines, registered CF-CRR and assigned fleet number 233 (later 933), it was operated until 1959, thereafter by Northland Airlines (1960-1968), Midwest Airlines (1969-1970), and Ilford Riverton until 1973. The registration was changed to C-FCRR when Avalon Aviation acquired it as a water bomber in 1977, listed as Tanker number 791.
In 1995 the aircraft was bought by Powell Eorp. Of Parry Sound, Ontario, subsequently it was owned by the Canadian Air Legend. The French pilot Franklin Devaux bought C-FCRR in 1995 and converted it to a flying television studio, it was based at Le Bourget, Paris, France. During 1996 C-FCRR was the star of monthly French television programme Operation Okavango, while in September 1998 it was the eye catcher of the three-week Champs-Elysees (Paris) static air show. The following October the aircraft started an 8,078 mls (13,000 km) trip to Chile via Dakar (Senegal) and Natal (Brazil) to commemorate early Air France South Atlantic mail service, returning to France in June 1999. On January 19, 2002 the aircraft was stored at Orly Airport, Paris, and has not flown since. Its Canadian registration was cancelled on October 7, 2005. Edson is 120 miles west of Edmonton in Alberta, on Highway 16. It was originally named Heatherwood, but that was changed to honour the vice president of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway when it was made the local railway centre. It thrived, and when Highway 16 was upgraded it thrived even more. Coal mining and industry connected with timber are the main employers of a population of around 8,500. The airport is at the western edge of the town at 3,041 feet asl, with a single lit runway 6,000 feet long and 100 feet wide aligned 07-25, with displaced thresholds and VASI at each end. The two joined aprons are at the eastern end of the airfield, with fire fighting chemical tanks beside the western one which is reserved in the summer months for the Lockheed Electra Air Spray planes; these are included in the AI. The eastern apron is for visiting charters and GA planes, next to a small terminal building. There is further parking on the grass for resident planes next to a large gravel car parking area and clubhouse. As the Air Spray planes would not be fighting fires in the winter there are in fact two editions of the AI, one for the summer fire fighting season and the other for the winter freeze. Use whichever one is appropriate for your flight time; I never strayed far from Ottawa in the winter so for me it is the summer one only. While making this I came across something new in the shape of some incorrectly installed edge lights in the stock fs9 version that refused to be deleted. There is still an "Edson TOP" folder which would normally be used to delete all unwanted taxiway edge lights, but in this case it deletes only some of them. Apologies, but there is nothing more that I can do and so I suggest you use this in daylight only.
