Air America was a airline company owned by the US Central Intelligence Agency during the Vietnam war. It had an important role in organising counterinsurgency in Laos. It run for this purpose an important fleet of Beechcraft D18 and C45.

The aircraft was originally manufactured for SAA and was converted to a freighter in June 1985.
