Dawson Creek is at 2,148 feet asl just east of the Rocky Mountains, less than 10 miles west of the BC/Alberta border. The Peace River, 25 miles north of Dawson Creek, links the two sides of the Rockies, winding through peaks that reach up almost to 8,000 feet. The population grew when the Northern Alberta Railway was extended to Dawsons Creek in 1932, and grew even more more when the Alaska Highway was built in 1942 and Dawsons Creek was where it started from. The airport is just to the east of the town. The runway is 5,000 feet of wide asphalt (150 feet) aligned 06/24, lit, and with PAPI and approach lights. There is a water runway to the north of the main runway with the same alignment, separately designated as Dawson Creek CBD3. The two operate as one; traffic for both use the mandatory frequency of 122.2 and talk to one controller in one control tower. However, in FS9 the ATC for two separately designated airfields operates as if they are nowhere near each other and near misses are the result. I have put them both in un-manned tower mode so you will announce your position and intentions and select your own parking spots etc. There is in reality a lack of apron markings but I have marked the positions of both gates. The apron is not large so there is only one other apron parking spot (see the traffic cone) and most parking is either next to one of the hangars or on the grass. The aprons vary from asphalt, to concrete, onwards to gravel, and then further onwards to some gravel amid the bare dirt; I have replicated this variation as far as FS9 permits. The buildings are bespoke from photos. The AI includes Central Mountain Air with two daily scheduled flights and Northern Cariboo as one of the airlines that occasionally runs charter flights in CYDQ. There are also private GA flights, and float plane flights into and out of CBD3.

| Boundary Bay CZBB in British Columbia, Canada |

Boundary Bay is south of Vancouver in British Columbia, close to the US/Canada border. It is the 5th busiest airfield in Canada measured in terms of take offs and landings as there are several training companies based there. The airfield was purchased by Alpha Aviation in 2009 and and modernised for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the main addition being a new terminal. This is an ex-military training base which was built in 1941, and one of the original hangars still survives. The two runways in use now (07/25 5,600' and 12/30 2,750', both of them 100' wide) are reduced asphalted areas of the original runways; the third runway is now an apron for GA parking and has had hangars built along it. There is JetA and 100LL available. The large building at the east end of the north apron is a HQ and maintenance facility for a helicopter company, Heli-one. All of the north apron buildings on the field have been modelled specifically for this scenery, plus the nearby huge greenhouse farm structures which are visible from further away than the airfield is. AI for Boundary Bay will be posted later this week.

| Twin Lakes Airstrips in British Columbia Canada |

There are three grass airstrips within sight of each other from the air at Twin Lakes in BC, which is between the close junction of Elkin Lake and Vedan Lake. The two lakes are similarly shaped and sized and in the same narrow valley between high ground that runs north-south; hence the name. Elkin is to the north, and Vedan is to the south. Twin Lakes CAG4 is on the strip of land between the two lakes and it is unclear to me who it belongs to etc. It is not in the Nav Canada copy that I have with me which is from 2010, and the online version does not cover grass strips. It is probably owned by whoever lives in the house next to the red hangar. The runway is 3,600 feet of grass aligned 14-32 at 3,945 feet ASL. Chaunigan Lake Lodge CF83 is over to the northwest from Twin Lakes by around 2 miles or so and as the name suggests it services the Lodge of that name, which is on the northeast corner of Chaunigan Lake. The runway is 2,600 feet of grass aligned 02-20 at 4,900 feet ASL. You might want to read about altitude power reductions for the take off. Elkin Creek Guest Ranch CBL9 is at the southern end of Vedan Lake and serves the ranch. This appears to be another high-budget operation and the runway is 3,670 feet of grass aligned 36-18 at 3,999 feet ASL. I have posted this as three separate airstrips, but I suggest that you add these to your "BC airfields" folder as previously suggested. Up to you. If you find a defect, email me. | Fort Graham CBW3 in British Columbia Canada |

Fort Graham is what looks like a very small village on the eastern shore of Williston Lake in northern British Columbia, around 100 miles north of Mackenzie (a previous post). The lake, while not large by Canadian standards, is well over 100 miles long but squeezed in width to a maximum of 5 miles amid the surrounding Rockies. The airfield has a gravel runway of 5,000 feet aligned 13-31 and at 2,230 feet ASL. There is no lighting. The operator of the airfield (and presumably the "village" too) is Finlay River Outfitters, a company that is based in Mackenzie and "outfits" hunting trips in the local area. I have posted this as Fort Graham CBW3, but I suggest that you just add it to your previously created "BC airfields" and avoid the inevitable doubling up of common textures etc. Up to you. | Anahim Lake CAJ4 in British Columbia, Canada |

Anahim Lake is around 55 miles east of Bella Coola by air, and clear of the deep and rugged valley that connects the two with a road that is over 75 miles long. The two are also linked by a daily Pacific Coastal flight. A further 150 miles east is Williams Lake (200 miles by road). The town of Anahim Lake is small, but renowned for numerous surrounding fishing lodges on the lakes and the enjoyment of "nature" in what is known as the Chilcotin Wilderness. The Anahim Lake airport is an odd one. It appears to have fallen into disuse over a period of years, but is now in the process of being upgraded, with some new hangars (though oddly situated, and with only dirt track taxiway access) and a recently completed terminal building. There is also a plan to upgrade the runway (lights etc, there are currently no runway or taxiway lights) and in general to greatly improve the facilities on offer. The only current airline to fly there is Pacific Coastal. The runway is just under 4,000 feet of asphalt aligned 13-31 and 75 feet wide. There used to be another runway which is still visible but is now unusable, gravel that has not been maintained for several years. The notes for Anahim Lake airfield in the Nav Canada manual warn of "Extensive float plane activity at Nimpo Lake to the south" and of "possible large animals within the airport perimeter". Nimpo Lake activity will follow in further posts.

Nimpo Lake is less than 10 miles south of Anahim Lake, and is a centre for fishing lodges and other "nature" activities such as hiking and hunting etc. As a result there is considerable float plane activity on the lake as clients are flown in, or out, to other lakes that are nearby, or just on sightseeing jaunts. This is the first of a trio of Nimpo Lake float bases, the "official" one that is in the Nav Canada floats listing as CAF8. It is close to the Wilderness Lodge fishing centre, included in this posting. Also included here are the AI Beavers that formed part of the Alaska payware scenery by FSAddon, with kind permission to use them for free scenery postings.

This one, CF05, is the second of a trio of Nimpo Lake float bases, the one that is close to the "official" CAF8. It is for Stewart's Lodge fishing centre and Tweedmuir Aviation, both of which are included in this posting. The AI Beavers that are based at the CF05 dock in the AI have a colour scheme that is close to that of Tweedmuir. The AI was included in the posting of CAF8, as were the AI Beavers.

| Puntzi Mountain CYPU in British Columbia Canada |

Puntzi Mountain is near a village called Chilanko Forks, approximately midway between Bella Coola and Williams Lake and just north of the Chilcotin to Bella Coola Highway. It is what remains of a military base and which currently shows in FS9 as a town, reduced in my scenery version to what remains after the base was closed and cleared. All that remains of the base is now the runway, over 6,000 feet of asphalt aligned 04-22, unlit, at 2,985 feet above sea level, and with centre line markings that are almost invisible. The runway is used in the summer for whatever local fire-fighting operations are needed by ConAir and there are some buildings and fuel tanks for this. It is also used for local flights such as those for a lodge on Puntzi Lake to the north. I have added three AT-802 textures with additional tail numbers for use in the AI. These are to be added to an aircraft that you very likely already have and which was included in Don Grovestine's posting of Abbotsford CYXX. I have also included the revised config file that adds the planes to Don's original; save the original config under another name and replace it with mine. Put the three new texture folders in with the original, which is called "CYXX-AI_Air Tractor AT-802 (Wheels)". If you do not have Don's scenery I suggest you get it, as his work is worth having and like Greg Putz he puts in a lot more effort than I do. The L188 Electra should already be with you if you downloaded my Smithers CYYD scenery. If you find a defect, email me.

Bella Coola is in one of the deep east-west fjords amid the Coastal Range on the coast of BC, approximately mid way between Vancouver and the Alaskan border and some 70 miles inland from the open ocean. The town of Bella Coola has a small population of around 150, while the population of the whole Bella Coola Valley is around 2,000. The valley is warmer in both summer and winter than the surrounding area, and tourism flourishes along with forestry, fishing, and local government administration. Although there is road access, the ferry service is the main connection to larger coastal towns or cities such as Vancouver. The airport, 7 miles east of the town, is connected by daily Pacific Coastal flights to Vancouver and Anahim Lake (to the east). The asphalt runway is 4,200 feet long and aligned 04-22 in FS9 (by 2010 this had changed to 05-23 in reality) and is without lighting of any sort, so it is restricted to daylight hours only. At the eastern end is the terminal building and in the middle the West Coast Helicopter hangar, which has a large fenced paddock-like enclosure in front of it. The helicopters hop over the three feet high fence as they "taxi" to the apron in front of the hanger (but not in FS9!). Between the two there are four other company hangars spread out along the roadway beside the fence. I have never seen the airfield in Summer, and I have not attempted to replicate the apron as it now shows in Google Earth. The screenshots show the main and overwhelming feature of Bella Coola, the large valley amid the steep mountains. This terrain has an inevitable effect on the ai, in that you will never see a plane land as it hits solid rock before it makes it to the runway. You will, however, see them take off. Pacific Coastal currently flies Beechcraft 1900's to Bella Coola; I have used the Saab 340 which I have seen there some years ago and which I prefer.
