USAAF B-24D "Brewery Wagon" 376th BG 9th AAF Download

File Description:
This B-24D-25-CO #41-24294 was assigned to the 512th Bomb Squadron, 376th Bomb Group, 9th AAF. This aircraft was assigned to 1Lt Bob Storz and he named the ship after their family brewery in Omaha, Nebraska. On the 1 Aug 1943 Ploesti mission, 1Lt John Palm's crew took it to that fiery target. Realizing the 376th lead ship and commander had made a wrong turn, Palm broke away and made directly for the refineries by himself. Severely battered by the ground defenses, Palm struggled toward the target. They never made it for Hauptmann Wilhelm Steinmann from 1/JG4 found the cripple and shot them down. Palm and seven other men emerged from the wreck to become POWs. They had the dubious distinction of being the first Liberator to fall to the defenses that day. Textures only, requires the original PAYWARE Alpha-Sim aircraft.

Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress #43-97976 "A Bit o' Lace" Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the accu-sim version of the A2A B-17G Flying Fortress. It represents #42-97976 "A Bit o' Lace", which was assigned to the 709th BS /447th BG. The nose art consisted of a cartoon by Milton Caniff. The co-pilot was Lt. John Bauman, a fraternity brother of Milton Caniff. He sent Caniff a detailed idea of the proposed artwork and the sketch was returned with Caniff's annotation: "A Bit-O-Lace for Lt. John H. Bauman, and the rest of the gang, with my best wishes - Milton Caniff NY, Oct. 1944". Nicholas Fingelly, an artist attached to the 709th BS, carried out the work and completed the painting in about six hours and gave Milton Caniff full credit for his his character. Her first crew flew 35 missions over Europe with no injuries, although returning with a good many holes, at times. The closest call was when a piece of shrapnel came up through Navigator's table and "Ike" Eisenhart's arms, but missed him. A surprise souvenir for Ike, which he still has. She flew more missions with different crews, until the april 4, 1945 flight. From the navigator, John Kirkwood: "Right over Kiel, and seconds before the bomb release, I heard the co-pilot say that "This airplane feels funny." Seconds later the tail gunner, who had regained his power of speech, blurted out something to the effect that part of "The tail was gone." A flak shell had gone right through the left horizontal tail, leaving only a partial surface, and completely removing the left elevator. We dropped out of the formation, and tried to drop the bombs, but the electrical system failed. We flew north a minute or so, the plane now in the hands of the pilot. The pilot did not want to drop over Denmark, so we turned out over sea, and dropped via screwdriver. Actually, we were over Schleswig-Holstein, according to my position, but it was close, and Tom did not want to chance killing danes. We flew on, at a reduced speed, far out to sea on a west-south-west course with occasional ETA's to the pilot. Several fighters joined us, and finally we got back to the base, and the runway was cleared for us. A decision had to be made by the pilot: To jump or ride her in.. Tom decided that he could land the plane, so we all congregated to the radio room, and that was that. I might add that none of us had any desire to jump. Most of the photos of 976 were taken after repairs, hence the dark colored rudder and left elevator. As you know, the color prior to the damage was silver. 976 flew one or two missions after that, but I never saw her again, other than in a color photo of the moth-balled fleet in Arizona." Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the repaint kit by A2A.

Los Roques Archipelago and Airports Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This project rebuilds Venezuela's Los Roques archipelago, adds the Gran Roque (SVRS) and Dos Mosquises (SVDM) airports, and includes AI flight plans, boat traffic, and a custom terrain mesh for Gran Roque. Accurate coastlines and lakes, as well as corrected landclass and waterclass are provided based on the latest available satellite imagery. Although current satellite imagery for this region only exists in relatively low resolution, an abundance of aerial photography was used to add custom features to Gran Roque and Dos Mosquises. Updates were created or rebuilt in a manner which carefully aligned airport data with current satellite imagery, when available. Scenery was created using Airport Design Editor X v1.50.4402, SBuilderX 3.13, and the FSX Object Placement Tool. Scenery objects were added and modified from stock FSX scenery to resemble as closely as possible the actual airports. Thank you to John Hinson and Tiago Besciak for granting permission to adapt their AI flight plans to realistically populate (SVRS) Gran Roque.

US Navy 1943 Livery Grumman Albatross version 2.1 Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Grumman Albatross HU-16 Version 2.1 World War II Livery Obviously the Albatross is a post war aircraft. Although the original specifications were issued by the Navy in 1944, the Albatross did not enter active service until 1951. So why did I bother with this repaint? One of my favorite movies is Otto Preminger's 1964 production "In Harm's Way", a great WWII Navy story. In the movie the Albatross makes a brief appearance as a transport for the central character played by John Wayne. Most people wouldn't notice, but by that time all of the contemporary seaplanes were long retired, so the Albatross was pressed into service. The movie is black and white so I can't verify the paint, but to preserve appearances I chose to use the intermediate blue the Navy used in that period. So for what it's worth, here's an Albatross done up in the Navy's wartime paint scheme.

CJ-1 Starlet Download

File Description:
The John Corby designed CJ-1 Starlet was Australia's first certified homebuilt design. This nimble little aircraft is powered by the venerable Volkswagon "Flat Four" air cooled car engine (which originally was an aero engine in the 1930's) from the famous Beetle & Combi van converted to aeronautical standards (Capacity ranging from 1.8l to 2.2l). The Starlet is semi aerobatic and is stressed to +-4.5G. Other noteable features of the Starlet are a cruise speed of 120kt IAS and a climb rate of 1000 feet/min all on 75Hp. The model has been designed from the "ground up" using ABACUS' FSDS version 2.11. The model features the now usual moving parts, texture reflections & Dynamic shine. The model also features a full Dynamic Virtual Cockpit (DVC) and comes in 3 model variations. The Flight Dynamics have been constructed by the use of the 1% Spreadsheets (v2.82.98). Bora Bora Airport, French Polynesia, NTTB Download

File Description:
The Bora Bora airport is located on one of the Motus, which surround the Island of Bora Bora. The Motus are raised coral reefs which act as break waters, and create the beautiful turquoise lagoons which surround the French Polynesian Islands. This scenery is a complete remake of the original, and is now much more accurate as to what the airport looks like. It contains the main terminal, a fire station attached to the tower with fuel tanks, open air hangar structures, two helipads, and wood stairs taking you down to the boat docks where you are transported to the main island. This is one of the most unique French Polynesian Islands with it's beautiful and interesting mountain structure. Using the terrain mesh by Rolf Keibel and John Applegate will tremendously enhance this part of the world in FS. It is available at Flightsim under the name fpsimesh.zip. Afcad by Ray Smith is also included.
