North American P-51D 4th FG (WD-M) 'Suzon' Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the A2A WoP3 P-51D Mustang (with AccuSim), in the colors of P-51D-20-NA 44-63736 WD-M, which was the aircraft flown by Lt George Green of the 335th FS/ 4th FG on 18 march 1945 during a mission to Berlin. While the 335th was strafing Prenslau Aerodrome, Green's CO, major Pierce McKennon, was hit by flak and had to bail out. Green landed in the field where McKennon had come down with his parachute, threw out his parachute, and the two of them squeezed into the small Mustang cockpit, Green sitting on McKennon's lap. While the rest of the squadron kept the Germans at a distance, Green managed to get 'Suzon' airborne again with centimeters to spare. They flew the 600 miles back to the UK, sharing an oxygen mask. Green was promoted to Captain by a grateful CO. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the A2A paintkit.

BeThere! Download

File Description:
This package contains the BeThere! gauge. It lets you pause the flight simulator once the aircraft reaches a certain position. This is useful for long range flights where the pilot wants to leave the flight sim unattended. The procedure is to either load an FS flightplan, switch the navigation mode of the autopilot to GPS and engage the autopilot. Or - with advanced aircraft add-ons - a flightplan is loaded into the FMC and the LNAV mode is set to let the aircraft automatically follow the track. Anyway, the problem is, that the pilot doesn't want to miss the top of descent. So the pilot has to check the computer regularily in order to be there when it becomes interesting again. Or, and that's the idea of this package, the flight sim is automatically paused at a safe position/distance. Read more about this gauge, how to install and use it, in the readme.txt file included in the package.

Himalayan Peaks LOD10 Mesh, Volume 1 - Mt. Everest and Kula Kangri Download

File Description:
Highly detailed terrain mesh of the Mt. Everest and Kula Kangri areas, N26°-29° E85°-92°. The files in this package are based on Shuttle Radar (SRTM) Version 2 data but with many of the void areas, especially the most significant sections, filled with elevation data generated from topographic maps by Jonathan de Ferranti. While Jonathan's work is unrelated to flight simulation he kindly gave me permission to compile his data for use in FS. The result is a wonderful improvement in detail and accuracy over any existing mesh file, freeware or commercial, based on SRTM or DTED data alone. Due to the large area of the Himalayas I've compiled the source data as two separate series: the "Himalayan Peaks" series covers prominent mountains and ranges in higher detail and locally overrides any existing LOD9 terrain mesh. In addition, a LOD9 "base mesh" series covering the entire Himalayas will be available for those who do not yet have an add-on terrain mesh of these beautiful mountains.

USAF Douglas SC-54 Rescuemaster Version 1.1 Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is a US Air Force SC-54 in the colors of the Military Air Transport Service. This aircraft was used in search and rescue operations and wears the day glo colors typical of air force transports of the period. MATS was a joint service transportation operation combining resources from the Air Force, Army and US Navy into a single coordinated airlift command serving all military branches. The updated repaint is highly accurate with the exception of the fact that the real aircraft had large blister windows on both sides of the fuselage. I tried creating these with artwork, but its going to take a MDL change to fix! Maybe Jens will be able to address one day! This skin requires the Jens B. Kristensen JBK DC-4 file (dc4_v21.zip) AND the C-54 cargo version (dc4cgv21.zip). These files may be found on this and other popular FS web sites. You MUST have the cargo version installed.

Port Hardy CYZT in British Columbia, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Port Hardy airport is on the coast of Vancouver Island in BC, at the far northern end and 5 miles east of the town. The town and the airport are both gateways to local touristic attractions such as Cape Scott Provincial Park, the North Coast and BC Marine Trails, and kayaking, caving, surfing, fishing, camping, and scuba diving (and I discovered just how big orca are). Fishing, logging, and mining have been important and to an extent still are for the town population of just over 4,000. The airport, along with the ferries, connects Port Hardy to the rest of the west coast with Pacific Coastal Saab 340 or Beechcraft 1900C flights to and from Vancouver at least twice a day. There are also Grumman Goose amphibious flights to local float bases such as Port McNeill, Alert Bay, Whaletown, Surge Narrows, Echo Bay, and Minstrel Island. These are all included in the AI and previously posted. There are three runways: 11-29 of 5,000 feet with ILS on 11 and righthand circuits on 29, 07-25 of 4,000 feet with righthand circuits on 25, and 16-34 with a much shortened 3,500 feet on 34 due to a displaced threshold. There is a control tower but it is not manned 24 hours a day; a "mandatory frequency" (MF for short and a Canadian invention) is used by the tower when it is manned, and when there is no tower response the aircraft continues to announce intentions and position. Something I have been meaning to explain to those who query it, is that in real life as well as in FS9 helicopters at a mixed use airport or airfield will act as if they are planes and join downwind, turn on base and then finals, "land" along the runway and then use the taxiway to the parking. This means all aircraft are doing the same thing and an orderly queue avoids collisions. This is one of a series connected in some way with Pacific Coastal airline destinations, the first being Bella Coola. There is AI available for Pacific Coastal online.
