Bryce Canyon National Park (KBCE), Utah, Photo-Scenery (FS9 & FSX)
Despite its name, Bryce Canyon is not actually a canyon that was formed by a river, but rather a giant natural cliff shaped through erosion by wind, water, and ice. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological formations, delicate and colorful pinnacles called hoodoos that are up to 200ft high. The bizarre forms and red, orange and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views. Unfortunately the hoodoos are too small for the elevation mesh in flight simulator. But you can enjoy the colors and shape of the cliffs. The cliffs in main region of the park, just south of the airport are partly covered
by snow. But on the southern and western part of the plateau you can enjoy them free of snow. Bryce Canyon is named after the Mormon pioneer Ebenezer Bryce who settled in this area in the 1850s. It was designated as a national park in 1928.
Bryce Canyon Airport (KBCE) just handles small aircraft on a daily basis. But is was actually built to handle larger aircraft in case of emergency. And so on Oct.6th 2000 an American Airlines MD-82 from Denver to Los Angeles made a successful emergency landing after reporting smoke in the cockpit and a loss of cabin pressure.
High resolution versions of this scenery for FS9 and FSX (much sharper, but larger and multiple downloads)are available at www.blueskyscenery.com/CNY_South2West4.html . The screenies are taken from the high-res versions, so expect this version to be slightly more blurry. Thanks to Joop Mak for providing a custom AFCADs that correct airport layouts so that they align with the photo-textures! They are available here: www.blueskyscenery.com/AFCADs.html . | Italian Air Force "S.M.Luigi Gorrini" AerMacchi C.205 VELTRO (Greyhound) |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Regarded as the best Italian aircraft of World War II together with the Fiat G-55 Centauro, the Macchi-Castoldi C.205 proved to be extremely effective in action, destroying a large number of Allied bombers and capable of successfully clashing on equal terms with such renowned fighters as the North American P-51D Mustang.Although the C.205 was able to match the best Allied opponents both in speed and maneuverability,it was introduced late during the conflict. Moreover, due to the poor Italian industrial capability of the time, only a small production run was delivered to combat units before the end of the war.Famous C.205 pilots are Italy's highest scoring ace Adriano Visconti and the top scoring C.205 Sergente Maggiore pilota (Sargeant Major pilot) Luigi Gorrini. To date, there's still debate about
Gorrini's score, since Regia Aeronautica preferred crediting units over individual combat achievements.
Gorrini's official aerial combat score is 19 victories, but, according to his memories,he achieved 7 more during his service with Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (A.N.R.), flying a Macchi C.205. These victories did not enter his officiall tally due to political reasons, since the A.N.R. fought by the side of the German Luftwaffe after the Italian September 8th,1943 armistice. These bring his total tally to 26 victories, making him the top scoring Italian fighter ace of WWII.For his combat record with the A.N.R he was awarded twice by the Luftwaffe with the Iron Cross First and Second Class.Luigi Gorrini was also awarded for his actions, after the end of the war, with the highest Italian military decoration, the "Medaglia d'Oro al Valor Militare" (M.O.V.M.,Gold Medal for Military Valour).Last surviving Italian fighter pilot of WWII,he died recently at the age of 97 and this repaint is dedicated to his memory.

| CYKF - Kitchener, Regional Muni of Waterloo - Ontario Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
The town of Kitchener is in southern Ontario, 40 miles southwest of Toronto. The population is just over half a million, including the adjoining Cambridge and Waterloo which are known locally as the Tri Cities. The Kitchener name was adopted in 1916, replacing the former "City of Berlin".
The airport is on the northeastern side of the town, with the main runway aligned 08-26 and just over 7,000 feet of asphalt 150 feet wide, lit, with PAPI at both ends and approach lighting and ILS on 26. The second runway is aligned 14-32 and is 4,100 feet long, lit and with PAPI at both ends; right hand circuits for 32. The airport is being steadily enlarged and improved, with new hangars for rental, operators, and maintenance companies. The largest and most visible presence is the training operation located just off the southwest end of taxiway A, where there are 14 Cessna 172, 2 Cessna 152, 2 Piper Seminole, and others. These are represented in the AI. There are morning and evening scheduled flights by Westjet to Calgary and American Eagle to Chicago, also in the AI. To the southwest, past taxiway C, there is GA parking; request taxi to what is named here "southwest parking" where there are spaces on both grass and asphalt. To the southeast, along a taxiway off the southeast corner of the main apron, are mainly operators and maintenance facilities. This version of CYKF includes the new(ish) terminal, the first of the new central rental hangars alongside the new taxiway and access road, and the very new large hangar off taxiway C, but not the new airport services building (fire and snow clearance) that is off to the southeast of taxiway A, and not the new car park to the south of the airport access road. So an uncertain and possibly historically innacurate date, but with the correct taxiway lighting and signage, and building textures from photographs.

| Canadair CL-13 Mk 2 Sabre (F-86E) Royal Hellenic Air Force |
|
File Description:
This is one of the first jet age aircrafts served in Royal Hellenic Air Force, almost 50 years ago (!!!). There are two repaint versions of Royal Hellenic Air Force in the zip package: The first one, represents a Royal Hellenic Air Force Canadair CL-13 Mark 2 Sabre used to fly with 342nd Sqdr. of Royal Hellenic Air Force (RHAF) in Elefsina, Greece with an interception role. The second, represents the aniversary "Alexander the Great" texture, painted in "patriotic" colours, by a gas station owner (!!!) in Thessaloniki - Greece after buying the aircraft (sn. 19294) as scrap and finaly display it as a memorial by his store. This specific aircraft used to fly with 343rd Sqdr. In Nea Anchialos, Greece. The Canadair CL-13 Mark 2 Sabre aircraft (Canadian build F-86E under North American licence) used to be one of the most succesfull aircrafts during the 50'ies and the Korean war. This "CL-13_RHAF_v1.zip" package is full compatible with FS2K2 and FS9 too and contains realistic sound made by Angelos Hatzikatakos, NEW (made by the author) panel, the official checklist and a VERY completed (as always...) flight manual (31 pages) which can be read with Adobe Acrobat. This repaint was based on the original model made by Rey Lopez . The primary panel was made by Ken Mitchell and modified by Nick Karatzides to look more realistic and closer to the Hellenic CL-13 Mk 2 cockpit. A total NEW flight model ("air" file and aircraft.cfg file) have been created by Nick Karatzides and and I test it hard, to ensure that it flies as close as possible like a real fighter! This "CL-13_RHAF_v1.zip" package is for EXPERIENCED FlightSimers and virtual pilots who have a "good feeling" on the stick and do not "kick" the contol stick while flying. The package contains new visual effects, night lighting, fine looking mechanical parts movement, contrails, realistic gears extracting / retracting etc. Repaint and stuff by Nick Karatzides.

| KLM 1998 AI Package |
|
File Description:
By 1998, the KLM/Northwest alliance was in full swing, and KLM was serving MSP, DTW, and even MEM daily with it's own metal while Northwest took over from KLM from BOS, IAD, and some other cities. KLM had a vast route network spanning the globe, serving much of Africa and the Middle East with many "tag on" routes onward from Amsterdam. By 1998, KLM was flying the MD-11, 747-200SUD(stretched upper deck), 747-200SUD Combi, 747-300 Combi, 747-400, 747-400 Combi, 767-300ER, 737-300, 737-400, and 6 mainline Fokker 100s which were short lived before going to KLM UK in late 1998 then on to CityHopper. Unfortunately, in the OAG, KLM only specified if a 747 was a combi or not(as in 747=744/742 while 74M can be a combi version of the 742,743, or 744) and did not differentiate between 737-300s and 737-400s. I did my best using what data I had to make the routes realistic, but the aircraft numbers at least are correct except for some extra 767s and 737s that you may remove if you wish. I also had issues making sure the TPE flights were all operated by "KLM Asia" 747s, so I ended up assigning 1 extra 747(I have 5, in real life there were 4) the Asia livery to ensure that you do not see a standard KLM 747 at TPE as they did not visit in real life. You may switch this to a normal 747 if you choose. Repaints by Raphael Rodrigues for the AIA Fokker 100 and FAIB 737-300, 737-400, 767-300, 747-200SUD, 747-300, and 747-400 along with flightplans by Chasen Richardson are included. Note that the 747-200SUD uses the 747-300 model. As a Bonus, the KLM Cargo 747-200SUD is also included.Part of the 1998 Flight Simulator Project. | Curtiss Helldiver Italian Air Force |

Images related to this file:
File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the Aerplane Heaven Curtiss Helldiver in the colors of S2C-5 MM4693 86-42 of the 86 Gruppo Antisom of the Italian Air Force, based in Grottaglie, 1952. Italy’s experience with the Helldiver was brief but interesting. In 1950, when the first post-WWII formal rearmament plan was put forward, the Italian navy identified as a priority obtaining a surplus American light aircraft carrier, with appropriate air wing. A team was sent to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi TX, where two pilots trained and qualified on the Helldiver, later practicing carrier operations aboard USS Midway (CV-41) where four more pilots earned US Navy carrier wings. In September 1952, two surplus Helldivers were presented to the Italian navy as a gift by the USA. The two planes were delivered to Naples, Italy.
Unfortunately for the Italian navy, there was still a Mussolini-era law on the books called Legge 1000 Kilo (law of a thousand kilograms) which mandated that only the Italian air force could fly planes over 2,200 lbs weight. As the result of a bizarre inter-services lawsuit, the navy was forced to abandon plans for both it’s aircraft carrier wish and the Helldivers.
A total of forty-six Helldivers were eventually transferred to the Italian air force (the two former navy planes plus a further forty-four). The Italian air force assigned them to the 86th Autonomous Antisubmarine Group at Grottaglie air base, where they flew ASW missions with depth charges. The Helldiver was not popular with the Italians…as an anecdotal example, they were housed in a disused WWII-era blimp hangar. They were viewed as obsolete and too difficult to master pilots on. The crews were also not keen on flying a single-engine type on long overwater patrols.
The Italian planes were only in frontline service for about one year. In 1953, they were replaced by PV-2 Harpoons and (later) S-2 Trackers, which were much more suitable to long-range ASW missions. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Aeroplane Heaven.

| Korean Air 1998 AI Package |
|
File Description:
Korean Air was one of only 2 airlines doing domestic Korean flights in 1998, with Korean Air having a much larger market share than Asiana and extensively flying the A300s on many domestic routes. By 1998, Korean Air had converted(to a freighter) or retired most of the 747-200s, 747-300s, MD-11s and A300B4s, but they were still in the fleet in very small numbers. The A330-300 and 777-200 were also starting to join the fleet very slowly with a few examples of each. The MD-80s and Fokker 100s were being used in decent numbers on both domestic flights and flights to Japan and China. The 747SPs were active but only picked up flying as spare airplanes, so they mostly sit in GMP but during the week do GMP-SFO-DEN, GMP-NRT-LAX-GMP, and GMP-HKG flights taken from 747-400s. As is the case with some of these plans, to upkeep 100% of the OAG flight schedule using the limitations of AI in flight simulator, there are a few extra planes(4x MD-80 and 1x Fokker 100) in these plans with fake registration numbers. The user may decided if they'd rather see all real life flights or the real amount of aircraft. Ranmori has painted a 727-200 as a bonus, and I gave these extra 4 MD-80s registration numbers from 727s and segregated them from the flightplans in case you wish to use the 727, but in real life it was retired in late 1996. Note that these plans and all 1998 plans use the Seoul-Gimpo airport(GMP/RKSS) as Incheon(ICN/RKSI) did not open until 2001. Textures by Ranmori Scythe for the AIA MD-80, Fokker 100, FAIB 747-200, 747-300, 747-400, 747SP FSPX 777-200, A330-300, MD-11, TFS A300B4 and A300-600R along with the AIA 727-200 bonus included. File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the A2A WoP2 B-17G in the colors of B-17G-85-BO #43-38348 LG-O "Roxy's Special" of the 322 BS/ 91st BG based in Bassingbourne UK. #348 arrived in Bassingbourne on 18 August 1944, and very quickly received her nose art, by Corporal Tony Starcer. By 5 September, it had flown four missions to Germany. The next mission, on the 8th of September, was to the I.G. Farben Chemical Plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany. On board this mission was David McCarty, pilot, Neil M. Mylin, co-pilot, Donald L. Brazones, navigator, Frank S. Bolen, bombardier, John Cangemi, top turret, Frank F. Trim, Jr., ball turret, Charles E. Beebe, waist guns, Floyd Z. Dillon, tail gun, and Henry R. Schuls, radio operator. Around 11.35 hours, short of the bomb drop near Ludwigshafen, “Roxy’s Special†took a hit ripping off a wing. A spin ensued pinning Bolen and navigator Don Brazones in their nose bubble followed almost immediately by an explosion blowing them free of the aircraft. Bolen and Brazones were the only two survivors of “Roxy’s Special.†They both parachuted down, but not together, therefore neither knew the fate of the other until later. Bolen eluded capture for 7 days before being picked up and carted off to Stalag Luft 1 near Barth, Germany after interrogations. Brazones had been picked up before Bolen and processed through the channels to Stalag Luft 1. The two were reunited at Stalag Luft 1 where they spent the remainder of the war. On Sept. 14, 1944, the day Bolen was captured, his wife Frances gave birth to their first child, Linda, in Selma - a child Bolen would not see until returning from imprisonment and the war. The “Roxy’s Special†crash site was near a Lutheran Church in Ludwigshafen. A very respectful group of Germans removed the remains of the air crew and buried them in the local cemetery. After the war, the remains were turned over to American authorities and they moved them to a National Cemetery in Northern France. In 1947, Bolen served as casket bearer for David McCarty when he was brought home to rest in Birmingham.

File Description:
Hythe Village and Pier
Hythe Village [Town] nestles between the edge of Southampton Water and the New Forest, some 500 yards west of the ‘American Base – RAF Hythe’; the surrounding area is known as ‘The Waterside’. Hythe, with its waterfront, boasts incredible views across Southampton Water, while the village [town] centre, with its Georgian High Street, offers a range of shops, services, traffic-free precincts and parking facilities. Nearby is ‘Hythe Marina’, to be found on Southampton Water's southern shore; it’s a unique development of a 206 berth marina, together with waterside homes, shops, restaurants, bars and a boutique hotel. There is also a passenger ferry which sails back-and-forth from Hythe Pier to the City of Southampton every 30 minutes. Before Hythe Pier was built, ferry and other boats arriving at Hythe had to use a gravel hard ramp which ran from the land out to the low tide point in Southampton Water. Walking along the hard gravel was not easy and travellers often got very wet. Various ideas to improve the situation were suggested at the time and construction of Hythe Pier was eventually started in October 1879 and officially opened on the 1st January 1881. Many World War II heroes departed from this pier on D-Day in June 1944.The pier itself stretches some 640 meters into Southampton Water and is one of the ten longest piers in the British Isles. In 1922, a narrow gauge electric railway opened in order to take passengers the full length of the Pier. This railway, with its original engine and rolling stock, is the oldest operating electric pier train in the world and is still operational to this day – playing an important part in the local transportation system between Hythe and Southampton.
