| Alps LOD10 Topo Mesh - Switzerland and France |

File Description:
Yet another terrain mesh package of the European Alps? Well, this one is different in that it is NOT primarily based on the Shuttle Radar (SRTM) data with their incomplete coverage of prominent peaks and ridges. Instead, most of the source data for this project were developed over many months by Jonathan de Ferranti using detailed topographic maps. While Jonathan's work is unrelated to flight simulation he kindly gave me permission to compile his data for use in FS. The result is a wonderful improvement in detail and accuracy over any existing SRTM- or DTED-based mesh file, freeware or commercial (a link to an extensive set of screenshot comparisons is included in the read-me file).
I've compiled the source data at LOD10 (38-m) grid resolution because the coverage area is smaller than most existing mesh files. Thus, anyone can use these files without having to first uninstall their current mesh set. Also included are LOD9 and LO8 buffer mesh files. Note: if you own Switzerland Professional with its high-resolution terrain mesh then you don't need this package, at least not the Switzerland files!

| Ivujivik CYIK in Hudson Bay, Quebec, Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Ivujivik is a village of 350 or so inhabitants at N62 25 W78 on the northeastern corner of Hudson Bay. The village does not feature in FS9 but is included in this scenery with approximately the right shape (the coast, even with UT, is not exactly right) so just think of it as a hand-made auto-generated village which gives the airfield a reason. The runway is 3,500 feet of gravel 100 feet wide, which should be enough. I also added the roads, deleted the stock airfield background and added a new background, plus of course there is the scenery file and the AFCAD and AI. You may note that the terminal has the elevation written on the sign as 126', while on the winter photo it is written on the older & bigger sign as 130'. I thought this is because satellite radar has fixed the elevations of all airfields more accurately than before, as Rockcliffe too has gone from 192' to 188'; the alternative explanation is that global warming has raised sea level by 4'. Wow! That's a thought. I presume the new sign was made smaller as a cost saving.

| Active ILS - KLAS (McCarran Intl - Las Vegas, Nevada) |
|
File Description:
As most know initiating the ILS at certain airports for AI Aircraft or User Planes is not a function at this time when using AFCAD2 if visibilty falls below 3 miles. This is do to the somewhat complex XML code that has to be written for NAVAIDS and then the compiling into a bgl file. If you add a new ILS runway to an airport such as KLAS (rwy 01L) only the user aircraft can use this runway when visibility falls below 3 miles. ATC will no longer use 01L ILS runway for AI Traffic or User Aircraft (by default) because FS9 sees it as a visual runway and will now vector your Planes back to rwy 7/25LR ILS which is also being used as a Terminal Departure Runway. The KLAS_ILS_jv.bgl file adds all NAVAIDS for making 01L a Precision Instrument Runway by adding all the radar fixes for both the ILS/DME approach portion and the proper missed approach procedures as per current published plates for runway 01L. See the readme for what's new at the KLAS airport. **** AFCAD2 included for FS9 default scenery. ****

File Description:
FSX, Flypad Gauge Version 2.0
This gauge has been developed on Win7 for FSX Flight Simulator SP2 or SP1.It should also work with Acceleration, but this is not guaranteed by the author. The gauge is a little extra addon based on the design of a smart phone and provides 9 different displays which are different from all of the standard gauge displays on a regular aircraft panel. It is mainly helpful for the user flying small propeller aircraft, and old timer aircraft.
However, the displays are as well attractive for sim pilots flying modern jet aircraft. Use it as if you just grabbed to your smart phone during a flight and check on the status of your aircraft, or how the terrain awareness situation looks like, how the AI traffic on the radar is, while you proceed with your flight plan. Enjoy the new design of a simple aircraft attitude display during an ILS approach. A new screen for LAT/LON coordination control and distance/bearing calculation has been added to this version in addition with a number of improvements. For credits look at the pdf documentation inside the zip file. | Alaska North Slope 10; Kivalina KVL in Alaska |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
The town of Barrow is in the far north of Alaska, and these are coastal villages or radar installations to the west, south, and east of Barrow on the North Slope. There will be further additions. Kivalina is a small village (population around 350) midway in the 150 mile gap between Point Hope to the north and Kotzebue to the south. The village is on a spit of land that is growing smaller and smaller with every year of erosion and the rise of sea level. The runway is 3,500 feet of gravel aligned 12-30 to the north of the village on the same spit. It was expected that 2025 would see the end of both village and runway, and possibly also the natural harbour that is the reason for the village's location. The modified width of the spit shown here is halved from the original FS9, and erosion has continued, enough that a sea defence wall has now been built. The AI has a daily flight by an ERA Alaska Cessna 208B, and some GA; read the note about the 208 to be downloaded and/or properly installed.

| Consolidated PBY-5 TEAL ZK-AMP |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the Aerosoft PBY Catalina for FSX. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the repaint kit by Aerosoft. The Royal New Zealand Air Force had 56 Catalina's in all between 1943 and 1953. They were registered NZ4001-4056 inclusive and included 22 PBY-5s (mostly MklVAs) with the remainder being PB2B-1 s. All were flying boats, with no amphibian models being taken on charge. After the war only half a dozen or so of the best aircraft were maintained in service with No 5 Sqn (squadron code became KN-) and fitted with the latest search radar which had a large radome behind the cockpit. The remainder were put into storage. Two PB2B-ls were loaned to Tasman Empire Airways (TEAL) for short periods after the war, one (which became ZK-AMI) as a crew trainer, the other (ZK-AMP, former NZ4036) to survey a flying boat route from Fiji to Tahiti, later to become known as "The Coral Route" and used by TEAL's Solent flying boats. These two aircraft were eventually returned to the RNZAF before being scrapped.

| Ocean Stations for Multiplayer Use |
|
File Description:
I've produced this scenery to provide all of the Ocean Stations I know about in the 1950's and 1960's. There is a Coast Guard ship on station (painted in the colors of the USA), an NDB to give you a bearing to the ship, a way to contact the ship using voice (you can get your position relative to the ship this way), and a DME for distances further than the limited 30 NM FS ATC gives you (normal communications would reach about 100 NM). You can also get a weather report, and if you are a seaplane you can be cleared to land. If you are a landplane, I guess this would constitute permission to ditch...
I want to give a big thank you to Mitsuya Hamaguchi (hama) for graciously supplying the ship used in this scenery.
This version uses scenery ships, which will not disappear in multiplayer. There is only a US ship, however. For the AI ship version (with ships of several countries) download OceanStations.zip instead.
