Kugaaruk CYBB and DEW Pelly Bay CWPB in Nunavut, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Kugaaruk is on the coast of northern mainland Canada on the Boothia Peninsula, 60 miles into a deep north-south fjord-like inlet called Pelly Bay. The name was changed from Pelly Bay in 1999, and the population is around 800. Gjoa Haven is 150 miles to the west, and Hall Beach just over 200 miles to the east. Six miles south of the village, and connected by a gravel road, there is a NWS station and what remains of a DEW Auxiliary Site; the DEW site was closed in 1992, a year after the NWS station became operational. There is also a 3,350 feet long gravel runway beside Barrow Lake 2 miles east of the site, Pelly Bay CWPB. Kugaaruk airfield is adjacent to the village and the 5,000 feet of 100 feet wide gravel runway is aligned 049T/229T where T stands for "true" as opposed to magnetic. There are flights by First Air and Canadian North and the AI includes a daily flight of each from Yellowknife via Gjoa Haven (as per real life) plus a cargo visit by Buffalo. Although the runway is long enough to accomodate a 737 it is not licensed for regular scheduled jet flights; the reason for this is that the approach lighting is "inadequate". Included here is a new .bgl for Gjoa Haven which will remove the small hold short line from the gravel; my mistake.

EVVA Ventspils International, Latvia Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Googly scenery for Ventspils International - Latvia's third largest commercial airport (try not to laugh!) although no facilities other than a runway are provided in Flight Simulator 2004. These scenery files add taxiways, aprons, buildings and other airport features, so that you and your "AI" traffic can land, taxi, park and take off in a realistic manner. The airport serves the city of Ventspils in northwest Latvia and opened as recently as 1975. Owing to changes in the political situation, operations ceased in 1983 but it re-opened in 2000. At present, it is unclear which operators serve the airport - Air Baltic is the claimed contender but there is no evidence in their advertised schedules. It is believed that occasional flights are operated to St Petersburg and Moscow by Russian operators but information is hard to come by. Nevertheless, the airport's own web site (http://www.airport.ventspils.lv/) has figures showing the increasing numbers of passengers passing through the airport, so something must call here! The airport also sees a respectable amount of General Aviation activity and AVGAS has recently been made available. The scenery does not purport to be ultra-accurate. Based on high-detail satellite imagery from Google Earth, the layout is proportionally correct but the added airport features, such as buildings, are built from default Microsoft objects and add-on libraries so will not look like the real thing. Graskop Airfield, South Africa Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Graskop Airfield does not appear in the default FS2004, neither is the town included which is a pity as the airfield lies right on the edge of a gorge where bungee jumping and even a Gorge-lift (elevator) or a slide across the gorge can be enjoyed by the adrenaline junkies. Added to this, the airfield (and town of Graskop) is merely 10km from the world famous God's Window (also featured in the film, "The Gods must be Crazy"). This package will add a custom (Gmax & Sketchup) made Graskop Airfield, Mpumalanga, South Africa with photoreal textures and ground textures. The included Landclass file will also add the town. The small airfield has been recreated with custom true to life models and photoreal textures. While being a very small airfield with only one hangar and a large antenna tower, the importance of the airfield far outweighs its size. The airfield plays a vital role in the fight against wildfires as there are water bombers based at the airfield during critical times. In real life the runway is quite challenging, being sloped quite significantly and very narrow, with a one-way-in one-way-out landing and takeoff procedure. Due to the limits within flightsim, the slope could not be replicated but all the other challenges are there. The asphalt runway is aligned 15/33 and only 800m long by 8.5m wide and sits at an elevation of 4 854ft.

CNZ3 - Chatham-Kent - Ontario, Canada V1 Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is partly part of the Small Ontario Fields series. The airport ICAO was changed from CNZ3 to CYCK in November 2012; I have left it as it was. The runway too remains as it was a few years ago. Chatham is located 50 miles east of Detroit and 150 miles southwest of Toronto, between Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie, and the airfield is southeast of the town. There is a single asphalt runway 5,000 feet long and 75 feet wide, aligned 05/23 in FS9 but in fact in real life now 06/24 due to the wandering magnetic north. The apron is on the northern side of the runway at the eastern end, with added taxiways to cater for newer hangars wearing identical colour schemes. There is fuel, runway lighting, some taxiway lights, visitor parking on the grass, and plane maintenance in the large hangar beside the small terminal building on the north side of the apron. There is a train station in the middle of the town, and no scheduled flights to the airport that is 8 miles away; these two facts may be connected. Ditches along the road and around much of the airfield provide separation, which is why the fences are not continuous. If you are on the runway and find your path to the apron blocked by another plane that is stationary at the hold short, continue past the first turnoff to the threshold markers and turn off the runway and wait. The AI plane will then taxi out and you will have a clear path.

Allakaket 6A8 Runway and Taxiway Lighting in Alaska Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Allakaket is on the Koyukuk River in Alaska, 40 miles southwest of Bettles. This posting adds proper runway and taxiway lighting to the scenery, as shown in the screenshots. There will be lights on top of traffic cones visible during the day, just as there are at Allakaket in real life so that pilots can still see them after a snowfall. At night there will be lit lights that properly illuminate the runway for landing, and at a lower level of brightness the taxiway. Put the bgl's into the existing scenery folder of your Allakaket 6A8 installation and say yes to replace the existing bgl's that have the same names. Add the texture bmp's to the texture folder. That's all, and in fact you could try it without the textures in the Allakaket 6A8 texture folder, but read on. Instal the Library objects once and for all by placing the CONTENTS of the Lighting Library scenery folder in your static objects scenery folder and the CONTENTS of the texture folder in the static objects texture folder (which is how I install scenery objects libraries). Alternatively, put them in the scenery and texture folders of your Add on scenery folder, or even in the main scenery and texture folders. They just have to be in related scenery and texture folders that are always active when FS9 is running. There will be further retro upgrades to other recent scenery that was posted with temporary lighting. Say thank you to Greg Putz for making the lighting.

KLBB - Lubbock Preston Smith Intl - Texas V3.0.1 Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Lubbock is another one of those little known, neglected airports that populate the FS world. Avery simple airport, LBB somewhat feels like a little DFW. There is a very DFW-ish main terminal with fewer than 10 gates and plenty of space to grow. The only mainline service is courtesy Southwest, but several RJ's freqent Lubbock several times per day along with the big freighters. This airport was built from the ground up with excellent detail, and because of the sparse traffic, frame rates are excellent as well. V2.0 Update: Recently, Lubbock has moved their east-west runway 8/26 roughly 1000 feet to the East so as to eliminate runway incursions by separation from the north-south runway 17R-35L. Version 2.0 reflects this modificaton. Several taxiways have been removed or modified, and airport fencing has been altered to reflect the change. V3.0 Update: This update fixes some major errors mainly on the West side of the airport. The cargo ramp and some of the GA parking had been found to be located in the wrong positions. They have been relocated and rebuilt to match GoogleEarth images. Also, the afcad has been updated to line up with these changes along with airline parking updates at the main terminal. All the jetways have been replaced with more accurate representations, and they have also been adjusted to match their current real world positioning. v3.0.1 update: There was a missing scenery library that has been added to the download, so now the jetways will appear if they had not before.

PAIW Wales, Alaska, USA Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Googly scenery for Wales - a small domestic airport on the western coast of Alaska that is poorly provided for in Flight Simulator 2004. These scenery files add taxiways, aprons, buildings and other airport features, so that you and your "AI" traffic can land, taxi, park and take off in a realistic manner.

Wales is a small village with a population of just over 150 people, so the facilities at this 4000 foot gravel airstrip are fairly limited. The airport is allocated the ICAO code PAIW, although Microsoft has ignored this in Flight Simulator and uses the IATA ticket code IWK. Wales is served by light aircraft from airlines such as Bering Air, Cape Smythe Air, Frontier Flying Service, and Hageland Aviation Services. You might find it a convenient stopping-off point for a quick trip across to Russia - this is about as close as you can get and a nip across the Bering Strait will find you there in no time.

The scenery does not purport to be ultra-accurate. Based on high-detail satellite imagery from Google Earth, the layout is proportionally correct but the added airport features, such as buildings, are built from default Microsoft objects and add-on libraries so will not look like the real thing. You are not obliged to download and install any additional scenery libraries, but to enjoy this scenery in its entirety, you may wish to. It will work fine, with or without. Beaver Creek CYXQ in Yukon Territory, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Beaver Creek is located at mile 1202 of the Alaska Highway, just east of the Alaska/Yukon border. The populaton is around 100 and the main employment is with the Border Agency, the White River First Nation, or with local tourist lodges. The airfield is a mile north of the town and close to the Canadian border post, which is included in the scenery. It was built by Jack Stalberg in the 1960's, and I have no further information beyond the fact that he loved to fly. The airport serves as an "airport of entry", though it is restricted in hours of opening and in the size of aircraft that it can handle; up to a maximum of only 15 seats. The single runway is 3,745 feet long and 100 feet wide, gravel, aligned 13-31 in FS9, lit, and with vasi at both ends. Righthand circuits for runway 13. There is a 340 feet threshold displacement to runway 31, which is of course unmarked on a gravel runway. The terminal building was recently reclad; I don't like it, but they didn't consult me. The ai reflects the sort of traffic the airfield gets; ie brief paperwork stopovers for GA or small charter flights into Canada from Alaska, usually in the mornings.I have adjusted the local scenery terrain levels to remove adjacent hills that I believe do not exist in real life but are part of the Northern Canada terrain mesh that I have installed. If you do not have this mesh you may find that the scenery works fine for you without the API flatten that is included here. The airfield is at 2,129 feet ASL.

Frozen Canadian & USA Rivers & Lakes Revision Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This "freezes" all lakes and rivers for winter flying and means they can be landed on with skis or wheels; it is meant for low level flying rather than high level jet flights. This edition is complete in itself and now really covers all of Canada and parts of the USA along the border, including large parts of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana. It is reversible with an "untick" in the FS scenery library. The revision is the addition of frozen sea in the area of Baffin Island (where I and Sid & Pete have recently posted all of the Baffin Island airfields) as I missed this area last time. Sorry about that. I have spent some time making sure that the sea and the inlets along the coast in the south do not get frozen too, and also some of the lakes that are close to the coast and rarely get cold enough to freeze over. The Great Lakes do not usually totally freeze, but this is an either ON or OFF modification and partial freezing cannot be convincingly simulated, so I went for total ice. Along the north shore I went for the peak of the winter with sea ice all the way to the permanent polar cap; this is not totally realistic as there is usually a partially open lead along the coast, but as with the Great Lakes...... It will work without Ultimate Terrain, but as UT is what gets all the lakes and rivers there and in the right place (except in the far north) it is obviously much improved with UT. The pics show Rockcliffe in the winter with the frozen Ottawa River for real and in FS for comparison; without UT the river would not be in the right place.

WASF Fak-Fak Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Googly scenery for WASF Fak-Fak, in Irian Jaya (Western New Gunea), Indonesia - a small domestic airport that Microsoft managed to omit from Flight Simulator 2004. These scenery files add the runway, apron, taxiways, buildings and other airport features so that you and your "AI" traffic can land, taxi, park and take off in a realistic manner. Little information is available on the services operated - flight plans are available for Lion Airlines showing two flights per week operated on their behalf by Wings Abadi Dash 8 aircraft. But it is known that Merpati Nusentara also serve the airport with Twin Otters. If you are using the Lion Airlines flight plans for Winter 2006, you must change the airport's co-ordinates as detailed in the readme.txt file because the co-ordinates given there will cause the aircraft to aim for a point on the wrong side of the equator in the middle of the sea! There is no lighting at this airport, and few navigational aids. However, I have added a missing NDB nearby (FA, 380.0). The scenery does not purport to be ultra-accurate. The quality of the satellite imagery at Google Earth is poor, but a number of photographs and other information has enabled this airport to be depicted reasonably accurately. However the added airport features, such as buildings, are built from default Microsoft objects and add-on libraries so will not look exactly like the real thing. You are not obliged to download and install any additional scenery libraries, but to enjoy this scenery in its entirety, you may wish to. It will work fine, with or without. An editvoicepack file has been included for the airport to help you embarrass yourself in front of others when flying. [File re-uploaded at request of AVSIM]
