| Cape Dyer CWFD in Nunavut, Canada |

Cape Dyer is on the southeast corner of Baffin Island, around 120 miles east of Pangnirtung at approximately N66 45 W61 30. There is a fine view north up the Davis Strait between Baffin Island and Greenland, and this is the whole reason for the airfield's existance as it was built to support the construction and operation of a DEW line radar station, which has now been updated to a North Warning System site. There are two camps; the upper camp is on the east side of the Cape and is where the radars are located, linked by a gravel road to the lower camp, which is on the west and more sheltered side of the Cape on the clifs above Sunneshine Fjord. The runway is 5,000' of 150' wide gravel, and it is lighted and at 1,320' feet ASL. Cape Dyer is now listed as abandoned in the Canada Flight Supplement. It is, however, still there and presumably is still used for access to the North Warning System equipment, which is automated and generally unmanned. The buildings were modeled for this scenery and include a hanagar large enough to accommodate a C-130. Ultimate Terrain is not required as it does not cover northern Canada.

| Arctic Runway Signs in the "Northern Domestic Airspace", Canada |

These are scenery bgl's to replace those previously posted for Cape Dorset, Gjoa Haven, Igloolik, and Whale Cove. All of these airfields are within what is marked on the chart as "Northern Domestic Airspace" and their runway signage is not given as a magnetic bearing but as a true bearing. This is because at those latitudes, close to magnetic north, the magnetic field is more vertical than horizontal and magnetic readings become unreliable. Planes report their course as a true course, and fly at a height that reflects their true course instead of their magnetic course. The picture shows the runway sign for Qikiqtarjuaq CYVM (which used to be called Broughton Island) which I am working on right now, and I realised that my training was so far behind me that I had forgotten all of the above. The boundary line of the two air spaces is not a straight line; the furthest south it reaches is on the west coast of Hudson Bay just north of Churchill. To the east it passes through the southern end of Baffin Island, and to the west it is north of the coast at the Alaskan border, and there is an illustration included here.

Port Columbus International Airport in Columbus, Ohio, is a gem of an airport for aviation buffs. It first opened in 1929 at a site chosen by Chales Lindbergh, as part of an air-rail route from New York to Los Angeles. The original terminal building has been restored and is now used for office space. Two of the original three hangers are still in use (I included the third hanger in the scenery). The six hanger Lane Aviation FBO was added in 1935 and has been in operation these 78 years. In 1959 the modern terminal was first built, with additions and renovations to follow. Netjets opened their facilities in 2001. With the exception of the runways, this version of KCMH was built entirely from scratch. This is the first large airport I've done in which all buildings on the field (except for the control tower) are custom made and partly or fully photo textured. I've also made more use of ground photo textures. Many hours went into the creation of Port Columbus International Airport for FS9. I hope you enjoy it. | Updates for Rockcliffe CYRO in Ottawa Canada |

Flight Ontario posted their scenery for CYRO in 2008. I originally learned to fly at Rockcliffe Flying Club and came up with some additions and modifications in 2009, and now with the passage of time there are more changes. This version replaces the previous updates and is a self-contained version.
A mini tornado in 2009 destroyed the old willow tree and almost put paid to the clubhouse too (though all the buildings are still standing right now) so there is a new (temporary) clubhouse, a new hangar, the willow tree is gone, the car park is enlarged and is now asphalt, the fence line is revised and the entrance gate relocated. The previous modifications included the refueling point near the RFC buildings, revised apron shape, gravel car park, parked cars, extended perimeter fence, deck in front of the RFC clubhouse, more parked planes, the large and old willow tree, and the float dock in the river. Note in the winter picture the Ottawa River is frozen, as it is right now in reality, and you can download my "Frozen Lakes etc" post and turn your own Canadian winter into reality; I have been surprised by how few people are interested in winter flying in FS9.

| Schefferville CYKL & Squaw Lake CSZ9 in Quebec Canada |

Schefferville is a town in an area of Quebec that is surrounded by Labrador, the border taking an unusual wriggly course instead of the normal Canadian straight line. One has to presume that there was a lot of political negotiation involved. Take a look at Google Earth to see what I mean. The town was established in 1954 (initially at a site a bit north of the present location, and with a different name) to support newly established iron ore mining. To assist with the exploration for further iron ore and the construction of the railway it seems that there was a forced relocation of native population. Although iron ore mining around Schefferville in its current location flourished through the late 1960's these relocated folk were neglected and suffered "destitute poverty". Through the 1970's iron ore mining declined and ceased in Schefferville in 1982, when most of the 4,000 or so non-native residents left. Since the year 2000 there have been moves to reopen mining in the area and production restarted in 2011, the approximate date of this scenery. The main reason why iron ore mining started again in Schefferville as opposed to any other area in Quebec or Labrador is the existing railway, used for ore transportation. There is no road connection and the airport is the only other means of access for the 250(?) town inhabitants. This population figure is somewhat of a guess, and the town inhabitants are largely company officers who change and move in and out as required by their work. Schefferville airport is to the east of the town. It has a single lit asphalt runway that is aligned 18-36 and is 4,975 feet long and 150 feet wide, with PAPI at both ends. Air Inuit flights connect with Kuujjuaq to the north and Sept-Isles to the south with onward connections to all parts of Canada. There are other charter flights for company personnel. The terminal building has been renovated and the photos show just how dilapidated it had become before this was done. I like it. This scenery also includes Squaw Lake, a float base that is used by Air Saguenay. Or was, as the company was closed in 2019 after an accident involving several deaths. The reason for Air Saguenay establishing a float base here was, once again, the railway, which allowed people to reach Schefferville for a reasonable cost. They could then use the float planes for a shorter distance and reasonable price to reach fishing lodges on the lakes to the north. This is my last scenery post; read the text note in the zip. This greatly modifies my previous (2009) post of Geraldton, and has more purpose-made buildings. The new version is stand-alone and does not require you to have previously installed Geraldton; it interacts with Dryden and Sioux Lookout for AI flights. Geraldton is in northern Ontario, 70 miles northeast of Thunder Bay and 50 miles east of Lake Nipigon. The town is on the northern shore of Kenogamisis Lake and strung out northwards to the east-west railway line. The population is around 2,400 and the origins are in mining. The airport is a further 3 miles or so north, just south of Hutchison Lake. CYGQ has just over 5,000' of asphalt aligned 08-26; I think there used to be a second runway in a similar arrangement to the one at Dryden, but that was long ago. At the eastern end of the runway there are hangars that turn their back on an irregularly-shaped and seemingly unplanned apron; this is because it was unplanned. There was a large addition made so that fire fighting CL 415 planes could be parked there in the summer, adjacent to tanks containing foam and chemical additivies. The AI (available with my Sioux Lookout and Dryden posts) includes CL 415 flights.

From June 1943 to August 1945, the 560th, 561st, 562nd and 563rd Bombardment Squadrons of the 388th Bombardment Group with B-17's, flew 331 missions (including 19 Aphrodite missions from Fersfeld) losing 179 B-17s. On 6 September 1943, the 388th lost 11 B-17's on a mission to Stuttgart including all the aircraft of the 563rd BS. The airfield was not used again and sold off in 1957.
This add-on is not compatible with VFR scenery. Sorry for that.
Included in the download is an AI traffic BGL file that makes this base come to life. To get this file working, you must have the Wings of Power Heavy Bombers and Jets add on installed. You must also have downloaded the two repaint set for the B-17 done by my friend Chuck Lawsen. This last file can be found here at Avsim, it�s called: wop_388_b17.zip This project is as always dedicated to all the brave young men that contributed to the effort of getting Europe out of the claws of a dark, perhaps the darkest period in modern history, but this time it is especially dedicated to 1st Lt. Ralph M. Reese, co-pilot 562nd Sqd., and of course all the brave men of the 388th.

The town of Kotzebue is in the far northwest of Alaska, and these are villages to the north and then the east of Kotzebue on the South Slope of the Brooks Range of mountains. There will be further additions. Noatak is a small village (population now around 520 and rising) on the west bank of the Noatak River, around 50 miles north of Kotzebue. It is on the edge of the Noatak National Preserve and as the only village on the river is the centre for fishing, rafting, canoe, and other types of outdoor expeditions. The airfield has almost 5,000 feet of lit gravel just south of the town, aligned 18-36. There are scheduled flights by Era (now renamed Ravn) and by Bering Air, both of them originating in Kotzebue and routing north to Noatak, Kivalina, Point Hope, and then back again. The AI includes these flights plus a daily Everts Air cargo flight and GA. There are new bgl's for Kotzebue; the development of the northern and eastern AI meant that more dedicated parking spaces were needed at Kotzebue. The two new Bering Air planes are as listed in the AI folder, and there is also a new Era Cessna 208 to be installed. The next South Slope scenery will be Noorvik ORV, to the east of Kotzebue.

| Cedar Lake Logging Camp |

File Description:
After flying my first real life solo flight I decided to celebrate by making a fun scenery for flightsim. Cedar Lake Logging Camp was designed to be a great destination for Northern Ontario (Canada) Bush pilots. It is situated northwest of Dryden. It has one 1800 foot gravel runway with trees on both sides for challenging approaches and takeoffs, a helipad and a dock for float operations (visible). There are several cabins on site as well as a hanger and fuel station on the gravel apron. There is a fuel barge and cargo crates by the float docks. For the bush atmosphere there are several deer in the area, a tractor pulling a mower by the runway, and two static aircraft (a Piper Cub by the hanger and a Cessna 185 on floats at the fuel barge). An AI aircraft is integrated into the file as well - the piper cub flies to Red Lake in the morning and to Dryden in the afternoon. There is also an integrated AFCAD file so the camp will show up in the flight simulator database and in the GPS. There are 5 starting locations including the runway ends, 2 parking spots on the apron, the helipad, and beside the dock. I hope you enjoy this as much as I will.
