Teslin CYZW in the Yukon, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Teslin is a village on the Alaska Highway around 85 miles east of Whitehorse, on the banks of the very long Teslin Lake and where there is a sizeable bridge across an offshoot of the lake. The Hudson Bay trading company established a post there in 1903. The current population is a rather meagre 120 or so and the only reason I am making this scenery is that I know one of the 120. This scenery, in addition to the terrain, village, bridge, and airport items also modifies the Alaska Highway. The AI includes a school excursion trip on a chartered Air North Hawker Siddeley 748 on Saturday. There are no scheduled flights to the field. The runway is now around 5,600 feet of gravel aligned 08-26 and with VASI at both ends. It is lit with runway lighting on the tops of traffic cones, and you will need to download the lighting library from my earlier postings of either Allakaket Lights or Anaktuvuk Lights earlier this week. A note here about my scenery making. There will not be many more to follow this as I am almost at the end of the photos I either took or found for scenery purposes, plus I expect to move on from FS9 at some point during next year.

Fort Simpson CYFS in the Northwest Territories, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Fort Simpson is the sixth in a series of airfields that follow (approximately) in a southward direction the Mackenzie River. At the far northern end of the river is Tuktoyaktuk, then Inuvik, Fort McPherson, Fort Good Hope, Deline, Wrigley, and Fort Simpson Island, all posted. Fort Simpson is at 555 feet asl and on the west bank of the the Liard River, close to Fort Simpson Island and where the Liard and the Mackenzie join up. The town of Fort Simpson is on an island, and has a population of 1,250 or so folks. The Hudson Bay trading post was established here in 1822. The new(er) Fort Simpson airport is just over seven miles south of the town, and has 6,000 feet of asphalt runway. It may be from the WW2 time, as it seems there was originally a second runway which has now totally disappeared, There are scheduled flights by First Air and Air Tindi, plus I have added a Buffalo DC3 and GA. There is a mandatory radio frequency which is for both CYFS and CET4 and in this case I have set the "tower" to "manned" so you will report position and obey instructions. There is fuel available. I have added the ferry at the crossing of the Liard River just south of the field.

El Paso, Texas KELP Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This AI-Package contains several beautiful airplanes: A Boeing-707 GAF, several Boeing-737: America West, Continental, Delta, South-West and United Airlines which perform "Domestic Flights" per attached flight plan and two NASA F-5's doing "Touch and Goes" ones per week. All the attached outstanding airplanes have been created by well known designers (see briefing). My part was just to prepare them in order to work in an artificial intelligent (AI) environment as good as possible. The excellent El-Paso scenery "elp_photo.zip" from Kevin Burns, available here at the Avsim library, is required to enjoy this package!

Boeing 744_isd.zip Download

File Description:
This package contains variants of two gate animations originally provided with ISD's sceneries for Rome and Milan. There was a known issue where PMDG's 747 did not trigger the animations correctly, this has been fixed.

Aspen (KASE), Colorado, Photo-Scenery (FS9 & FSX) Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
There sure is more than one reason to go to Aspen and this is sure another must-have of my Colorado sceneries. If you're coming IFR there's a couple of very demanding approach procedures. From a LOC/DME to several visual approaches there's everything your heart might desire. Due to the steep and high surrounding terrain these are quiet some hair raisers (see www.airnav.com/airport/KASE). If you're coming VFR then the traffic pattern altitude is 9.005 ft for light aircraft (vs. 9.505 for aircraft 12.500 lbs or more). Weather and wind permitting, RW15 is preferred for all landings (left pattern). RW33 has a right pattern and is preferred for all takeoffs. You even need a written permission to depart RW15. When departing VFR make a right turn to a heading of 360 degrees ASAP for noise abatement and hold this heading for at least 2 miles from the field. And don't forget to enjoy the impressive mountain scenery with two 14ers: Snowmass Mtn. and Castle Pk. to the southwest. This scenery brings you another 3.500 sq km of beautiful Colorado in 4.7m/pix quality. High resolution versions of this scenery for FS9 and FSX (much sharper, but larger and multiple downloads) are available at www.blueskyscenery.com/GNB_South2West2.html . The screenies are taken from the high-res versions, so expect this version to be slightly more blurry. YourDonation@Work: Dedicated to Mark, Markus and Yves.

Ulukhaktok (Holman) CYHI in the Northwest Territories, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Ulukhaktok (Holman) is an airfield on the west side of Victoria Island, off the northern coast of Canada. It is 320 miles west of Cambridge Bay (and you should download and install the recent post of CYCB by Sid and Pete, as I use it for the AI included in this post) and around 400 miles east of Inuvik (my post of a few months ago). It has been officially called Ulukhaktok since 2006, and before that it's name was Holman.

The village of Ulukhaktok has been placed around the bay and is approximately the right shape; it houses some 460 people who used to rely solely on hunting and fishing. The village is close to 71 degrees north, and there are only four months of the year when the average high is above zero centigrade. The photograph with snow (and of course a frozen sea) is typical; for the frozen sea download my Frozen Rivers & Lakes post which will provide this. The buildings on the field have been modelled specifically for this scenery, and as in real life there is only JetA available. The AI visiting aircraft are an Aklak Air DC3 (based in Inuvik and operated by Kenn Borek Air) and a Canadian North Dash 8-100. Note that the runways are signed as "true" headings instead of magnetic; in the Canadian Northern Domestic Airspace all headings are given as true. Unfortunately FS9 doesn't accommodate this in ATC.

CYQS - St Thomas - Ontario, Canada *V1* Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
St Thomas is a town in Ontario around 12 miles south of London and less than 10 miles from the north shore of Lake Erie, with a population of just under 40,000. The airport (actually more of an airfield, as there are no scheduled flights) has three runways typical of an ex-military field, with one remaining hangar from RCAF flight training times in the 1940's, and the east-west runway now extended to just over 5,000 feet. The main presence at CYQS is a company in the crop seeding and spraying business over a wide area of Ontario; as a result there are several AT-802 planes based there which are included here as AI planes and also as parked scenery objects. To the west of the original apron area there are added taxiways to cater for a herd of new individual hangars wearing orange and white uniforms. There is fuel, runway lighting on 09-27, taxiway lights, visitor parking on the edge of the apron, and maintenance companies in the large hangars, plus a flight training group. A small terminal building sits quietly between hangars, waiting. Ditches along the road and around much of the airfield provide separation, which is why the fences are not continuous. I presume that the warning balls on the electricity cables were found to be necessary to persuade pilots not to land there; probably ski planes in winter, they tend to land anywhere so long as it has snow on it. This V1 version includes previous updates.

Fort Smith CYSM in Northwest Territories, Canada Revised Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is an updated version to remove an incomplete static Beaver reported by Graeme (thanks Cobber) and to include other modifications that I made for my own version since posting the original; different taxiway lights, revised aprons, and in particular the revised AI that I mentioned in the original 2011 post. This is complete and can be installed as-is, or used to modify an existing post by changing the original folder contents. Fort Smith is just north of the border between Alberta and Northwestern Territories, midway between Lake Athabasca to the southeast and Great Slave Lake to the north west. You might stop there when flying between Yellowknife or Hay River to La Ronge or Saskatoon. It looks as if it is ex-military and these are the remains of what were once 10,000 feet of asphalt runways. The main runway is now 11/29 and 6,000 feet long, and the secondary one is 1,800 feet of mostly gravel. There is an airline based at the field, Northwestern Air, and fuel is available at a self service point. The town of Fort Smith is two miles east of the airfield, on the bank of the Slave River and where there are some rapids that require a portage to get around them. Before aviation came along the river was a major route to the north and all those furry animals, which was why the Hudson's Bay Company established an outpost there in 1872. Today it has a population of 2,400 and the main activities are government administration of much of the Northwest Territories, education, and tourism.
