RAF Swanton Morley - Norfolk, England

File Description:
Swanton Morley was a new station planned under the RAF expansion scheme but not completed to the same standard before the start of the Second World War. It was part of No. 2 Group in Bomber Command until December 1944 when it was given over to 100 Group - the RAF unit responsible for countering German defences against the British strategic bombing - as they needed another airfield close to their HQ at Bylaugh Hall.

On 4 July 1942, American and British airmen took off from this station as part of the first combined bombing raid of World War II. No 226 Squadron had been tutoring the US 15 Bombardment Squadron. Both Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower were at RAF Swanton Morley for this mission, which saw six crews from 15th Bombardment Squadron fly a raid with six crews from the RAF, using Boston light bombers belonging to No. 226 Squadron RAF. The raid was made at low level against German airfields in the Netherlands. During World War II the station was home to the Bomber Support Development Unit (BSDU) of No. 100 Group RAF.

After World War II the station was home to No 1 Air Signaller's School and later to the Central Servicing Development Establishment (CSDE) and the Maintenance Analysis and Computing Establishment (MACE).

From June 1953 to 1995 the station was also used by 611 Volunteer Gliding School, when the station was listed for closure under Options for Change. The station held popular airshows during the 1980s. Boeing B-52H CONECT

File Description:
In July 2013, the Air Force began a fleet-wide technological upgrade of its B-52 bombers called Combat Network Communications Technology (CONECT) to modernize electronics, communications technology, computing, instrumentation, and avionics on the flight deck. CONECT upgrades include software and hardware such as new servers, modems, radios, data-links, receivers, digital flight deck and workstations for the crew. Making the B-52 compatible with 21st century flight and combat roles.

Beechcraft Staggerwing (VH-AFP)

File Description: This folder contains a repaint for the Alabeo Beech Staggerwing in the colors of VH-AFP, as it looked in the early sixties. This machine (c/n 357) was originally built as a D17A and registered in the USA as NC20778 to The Armor Institute on 1 November 1939. It took part in their 1940-41 Antarctic Expedition (which I painted as well), following which it was purchased by Connellan Airways in 1941. However, the aircraft was impressed by the RAAF as A39-2 prior to use by Connellan. Post war the aircraft was returned to Connellan where the original 380 hp Jacobs engine was replaced by a 450 hp Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior, bringing the aircraft up to D17S standard. It was first registered as VH-AFP on 19 March 1947. VH-AFP was withdrawn from service on 6 August 1951, however it was stored and returned to service in 1956, being re-registered on 3 April. The aircraft was once again withdrawn from service in November 1957 and was sold to Tadgell Aviation of Toowomba, Qld and used for crop seeding. It struck a tree and crashed on 22 December 1963 while seeding at Springton, near Dingo, Qld. Sadly the pilot was killed. The burnt out airframe of this Staggerwing was located in April 2007 at the remote crash site and collected by Staggerwing enthusiast Cameron Hanley and trucked to his hangar at Caboolture, Qld where he is rebuilding Beech C17B VH-UXP (for which two repaints are available as well). Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the blank textures by Alabeo.

Nulato NUL in Alaska

File Description:
Nulato is a small village on the west bank of the Yukon River, around 8 miles south of where the river turns from north-south to east-west, east being upstream towards the distant Fairbanks. The population is just under 300 and living from fishing and the land. During the late 1800's the village lived by the spin off from gold mining, such as supplying cut wood as fuel for the boats plying the Yukon River. In 1900 a measles epidemic cut the population down by a third, and in the early 1900's the gold mining moved to Nome and Fairbanks, with obvious results for local prosperity. The airfield is close by and has a gravel runway aligned 2-20 and just under 4,500 feet long. Apart from the airfield itself, and it's buildings, this scenery modifies the local land class, adds village buildings while reducing the village size to reality, and creates a new airfield background. Don't ask me about the odd arrangement of the airfield buildings, I have no idea why they are like that. Nulato is served by Wright Air from Fairbanks in the east and this is included in the AI. A note here about my scenery making. This is post number 508 and there will not be many more to follow this as I am almost at the end of the photos I either took or found for scenery purposes. There is a limit to what can be located online and I have already been making use of the little there is; eg Unalakleet. So, if you are near an airport (preferably Canadian or Alaskan) and have a camera..... Let me know.

Black Cat PBY5/5A

File Description:
X-Plane 6.40 The PBY Catalina is probably the best known flying boat with over 4000 produced by Consolidated aircraft and licensees. The Black Cat squadrons all done in flat black played havoc particularly for the Japanese in the Pacific in WWII. Fitted with radar, with a 15 hour endurance and 2800 mile range they hunted Japanese naval ships and bombed or torpedoed them by the hundreds. This a fairly accurate rendition of the PBY except that the retractable pontoons are missing. Why? Well basically after using all the tricks I know I ran out of parts. There are 6 engine nacelles used in the model, 2 represent the 1200 HP radial engines driving the props, the others are jets with 5 lbs of thrust, 1 is used for the rear fuselage section, 1 is used for the wing pylon, 1 is used for the flare from the fuselage to the vertical stabilizer and the last is used for the forward observation and gunner space. Two are not used. Wing sections are taken up by the main wing and the support spars so there you go. The fuel tanks are used for the side gunner pods since these can be decorated separately. The plane flies very well and is stable. Takeoffs from water are quite easy as long as you don't dip a wing tip (no floats remember). This aircraft model and the paint scheme is copyright by Robert App, January 2003. Feel free to alter the paint scheme and instrument panel as long as you give me credit for the original design. Replacement Dynamic Water Textures v11

File Description:
Replacement dynamic water texture-sets for FS2004 (VERSION 11). These newer version 11 moon light textures are a completely new type than my earlier versions. The results are much improved and there is also a "new moon" texture in this version which is a more realistic and darker blue/black which contrasts nicely with my moon light textures. This compares quite drastically to the default over lit pinkish brown tones the default FS9 uses for a new moon. Now when you fly by moonlight you can actually see the moon kissed water and even see some wave action. It actually feels like you are there! There are 2 moon light textures in this download. The default reflections and water colors leave a lot to be desired in FS2004. As an example; The default milky "bright green" overcast texture is highly unrealistic in overcast conditions. The replacement textures will change this dramatically to a much more convincing and realistic "blue/grey", cast, with improved lighting and reflections in respect to the sun. These replacement textures will generally give a much more realistic tone and color to the water effects in FS2004. The change is quite dramatic and transforms the flight sim experience to a much greater level of realism. It is important to stress the default FS9 textures are fully compatible with these new textures and they can be used in any combinations and can be mixed and matched with the new textures. For example it may be that some users want to keep some of the water environment textures as they are by default but change only one or two textures. The choice is yours. As a further added bonus a voice control file has been included for "Shoot" which will control FS2004 by voice. It is brilliant and it's free.

ScotFlight AFCADs and Flightplans V1.0

File Description:
AFCADs, flightplans and aircraft for the newly released ScotFlight commercial scenery by VisualFlight The newly released ScotFlight scenery by Visual Flight (www.visualflight.co.uk) is a beautiful rendition of the Scottish landscape and landmarks. It contains many new airports which were not included in the default FS2002 and I have had the pleasure of beta testing it for the last 4 months or so. My freeware add-on package is in 4 parts: 1) AFCAD files for all of the airfields and airports included in the ScotFlight scenery. This will allow the smaller airfields to appear on the FS2K2 GPS unit and all will be listed in the World/GOTO menu. 2) EditVoice files for the new airfields so you will hear the correct names on the radio. (optional) 3) General Aviation flightplans for all of the airports, which can be added using TTools v1.3.3 by Lee Swordy. 4) Scheduled airline flightplans for flights to/from Scottish airports and small islands. Including 99.9% COMPLETE UK flightplans for Eastern Airways and 15 (yes fifteen!) individual BAe Jetstream J41 models, courtesy of Tom Woods, to use as AI traffic on the Eastern Airways routes. Plus directions where to get other suitable aircraft for, ScotAirways, BA Loganair, EasyJet and Highland Airways. Many thanks to Tom for his hard work repainting all the registrations for the Eastern fleet! PLEASE READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! TAROM B.737-38J YR-BGC C/N 27181-2662"Constanta". This is my new serie of TAROM for the Just Flight Traffic 2004. YR-BGC"Constanta" is one of the four type B.737-38J operated by TAROM, the Fifth plane (YR-BGD) is operated as Presidential plane and the Government of Romania. TAROM((Transporturile Aeriene Romane) is the official airline of Romania and was founded after the war in 1946 as Transporturi Aeriene Romana Sovietica (TARS) with a fleet of Lisunov Li-2.The airline had operated soviet jet types longtime (Ilyushin IL-62, IL-18, Tu-154´s)but after the restructuration in the early 90´s is today composed with 6 ATR-42-300 and 9 B.737-300 and 700 series(models B.737-38J,B.737-78J and one B.737-36Q). All 707´s and soviet types are now stored and out of service.The two A310(introduced in 1992)and tasked to flight the New York services or Charter flights in the summer time are now in reserve and also out of service or saled the fleet of ROMBAC 1-11(BAC 1-11 build under licence by Romaero.The main hub of TAROM is located at Otopeni Intl.airport(Bucarest). Discover FSX Flight (PAFA - PABR) (486 NM) (Heavy Cargo Run)

File Description:
(PAFA - PABR) (486 NM) (Heavy Cargo Run)____Situation Orientation (Fictional) : Twice a year, (GREEN SOLUTIONS) a joint US-UN funded scientific research firm, based in Anchorage Alaska, charters a freighter jet to make a cargo run to (Barrow/Alaska (PABR)) located near the beaufort sea / Arctic ocean, where one of the firm's major research facilities is located. For the September run, it has been arranged that the flight will make a stop over at Fairbanks International Airport- Alaska (PAFA) to pick up additional cargo that a supplier working with the firm shipped to Fairbanks by train. As this run is a pre-winter run, the cargo is heavy and the cargo company have allocated a large freighter ship to handle the heavy cargo load. The aircraft arrived into Anchorage inbound from South America early this morning and departed Anchorage at 11:00 am. It arrived PAFA on time and is loading the additional cargo at a designated hanger. The flight was shedualedto depart to Barrow at 2:30 pm butfreighter paperwork and administrative complexities have caused a two and a half hour delay. Everyone, including you,is frustrated and anxious to get moving. Finaly, ground crews inform you that you will be ready to go in 10 ____Note : Although no significant malfunctions where logged during the first leg of the flight, the aircraft's maintenence logs indicate that during its Panama City departure,the crew logged an abnormalylow climb attitude after take off. However, due to compressed schedual timetables, maintenance operations in Anchorage decided that maintenance would be done after it returned from its charter flight and have given it a green light. As first officer, the captain has instructed you to watch that closley as he has given you control of this leg.
