B36J Peacemaker for X-Plane 6.4-6.6

File Description:
B36 Jv1.1 Peacemaker for X-Plane 6.4-6.6 - Upgraded panel but still not custom; J version with 3800 HP engines. The B36 Peacemaker was the last propeller driven bomber put into service by the US. With 6 - 3800 Hp radial engines and a gross takeoff weight of 410,000 lbs the early versions like the A and B variant were woefully underpowered. This file is the later J version with 4 - 5200 lb static thrust jet engines added. Never called into active service the B36 provided the US long range nuclear determent until the jet B52 came into service. The B36 is a huge airplane with a large payload capacity, 10000 mile range and long endurance. See the read me file for distribution and copyright information.

P38 v1.1 For X-Plane 6.4-6.6

File Description:
P38v1.1 for X-Plane 6.4-6.6. Improved paint job, panel and other minor improvements. The P38 developed a a result for a fast long range fighter requested by the US; most manufacturers ignored the call for proposals because of the ridiculous requirements. Lockheed, using the brilliant and unconventional ideas of their designer, Kelly Johnson (who later went on to help design the SR-71 Blackbird among others), came up with a plane that was totally unique for the time. It had two engines, used liquid cooled inlines instead of radials, tricycle landing gear, provided staggering operating ranges and payloads yet was able to maneuver capably with single engined fighters. The test models of the P38 made more "firsts" than any other plane both on paper and in the air.

P-40E Warhawk

File Description:
P40E Warhawk for x-plane 6.4-6.6 - The P-40 Warhawk built by Curtiss was developed from the P-36 simply by replacing the radial engine with the liquid cooled Allison 1720 V12 with 1125 HP. It was America's foremost fighter in service when WWII began. P-40s engaged Japanese aircraft during the attack on Pearl Harbor and the invasion of the Philipines in December 1941. They also were flown in China early in 1942 by the famed Flying Tigers and in North Africa in 1943 by the first AAF all-black unit, the 99th Fighter Squadron. The P-40 served in the Aleutian Islands, Italy, the Middle East, the Far East, the Southwest Pacific and some were sent to Russia. Though often outclassed by its adversaries in speed, maneuverability and rate of climb, the P-40 earned a reputation in battle for extreme ruggedness. At the end of the P-40's brilliant career, more than 14,000 had been produced for service in the air forces of 28 nations, of which 2,320 were of the "E" series.

Firefox Mach 4 Spy Plane

File Description:
"Firefox" for x-plane 6.40 is a mythical mach 4.1 spy plane, built strictly for speed, with a high lift to drag ratio of 5.9 to 6 even above mach 4. At 80000 feet it can cruise at mach 4 for 12000 nm. With a gross wt. of 71000 lb. and fuel capacity of 47000 lb. it is a flying fuel tank built strictly for reconnaissance and photography. The plane is very stable and easy to fly at all altitudes up to about 85000 feet.

Foxbat Stealth Bomber

File Description:
Forget that the leading edge temperature going mach 4 at 75000 feet is about 640 degrees C and concentrate on flying this mach 4.25 stealth bomber which I have dubbed the "foxbat". With a range of more than 15000 nm at 75000 ft. at mach 4 it can outperform any of todays planes. The plane is very stable and easy to fly at all altitudes up to about 75000 feet. To get maximum range at high altitude engage 1st flap position after reaching 60000+ feet; this increases lift to drag ratio to over 8.

Black Cat PBY5/5A

File Description:
X-Plane 6.40 The PBY Catalina is probably the best known flying boat with over 4000 produced by Consolidated aircraft and licensees. The Black Cat squadrons all done in flat black played havoc particularly for the Japanese in the Pacific in WWII. Fitted with radar, with a 15 hour endurance and 2800 mile range they hunted Japanese naval ships and bombed or torpedoed them by the hundreds. This a fairly accurate rendition of the PBY except that the retractable pontoons are missing. Why? Well basically after using all the tricks I know I ran out of parts. There are 6 engine nacelles used in the model, 2 represent the 1200 HP radial engines driving the props, the others are jets with 5 lbs of thrust, 1 is used for the rear fuselage section, 1 is used for the wing pylon, 1 is used for the flare from the fuselage to the vertical stabilizer and the last is used for the forward observation and gunner space. Two are not used. Wing sections are taken up by the main wing and the support spars so there you go. The fuel tanks are used for the side gunner pods since these can be decorated separately. The plane flies very well and is stable. Takeoffs from water are quite easy as long as you don't dip a wing tip (no floats remember). This aircraft model and the paint scheme is copyright by Robert App, January 2003. Feel free to alter the paint scheme and instrument panel as long as you give me credit for the original design. Seaplane Racer for x-plane 6.6-6.7

File Description:
Seaplane Racer for x-plane 6.6-6.7 - This is the looser (by choice) of my two designs completed for the Seaplane Contest going on at www.x-plane.org. It is the fastest of my two designs capable of 500 mph in level flight at 1500 ft. Powered by two Rolls Royce Merlin V12 engines each developing 2200 HP. The rear engine drives 2- 9' diameter, pusher, four blade, counter rotating props; the front engine drives 2-7.2' diameter, puller, four blade, counter rotating props. Wing tips fold to reduce drag and allow the plane to meet the minimum 200 ft2 wing area. Remove the floats, shorten the landing gear by about 2.7 feet and do over 530 mph.
