Avro Lancastrian II

File Description:
A close derivative of the war-time Lancaster bomber, the Lancastrian was fitted with streamlined nose and tail cones. Lancastrians were used as long-range freighters, VIP transports, and jet engine test beds by the RAF, as fast long-range airliners and mailplanes by Trans Canada Air Lines, BOAC, BSAA, QUANTAS, and Alitalia, and as tankers by Flight Refuelling Ltd. Charter operators were Skyways and Silver City. Eighty-two aircraft were build, but most of them had vanished in scrapyards by the early nineteen-fifties. In the immediate post-war years, TCA offered twice-weekly Lancastrian flights from Dorval, Canada, to Prestwick and London, while BOAC and BSAA (under chief pilot D.C.T. Bennett) operated flights to Australia and South America, all based on a rather uneconomical ratio of five crew to up to fourteen passengers. The outbound leg from Hurn to Learmouth, Australia, took three days and well over fifty hours flying time, with Lydda, Karachi, and Ceylon serving as staging posts. BSAA's London to Buenos Aires flight took 56 hours. Either way, one needs to have plenty of time on one's hands to recreate these epic journeys. Gmax exterior model and textures by Manfred Jahn, FDE and 2D panel by Paul Edwards (based on a panel by Phil Perrott of Alphasim). The three texture sets included represent VM734 of 246 Squadron RAF, G-AGLY ("Norfolk") of BOAC, and G-AKFG of Flight Refuelling Ltd.

FS2004 GPS Map View Gauge v3.0

File Description:
The ultimate gauge. The Map will show: Airports details (Runways ID's, length & ILS), VOR's and NDB's frequencies, Intersections and waypoints, Airspaces, Approaches and flight routes. You can toggle the view you require for your flight. Also you can zoom in/out to see the nearest airports, vor's and ndb's. The map will indicate A/C heading flightplan title and waypoints ID's. Version 3 includes more enhancements such as the ability to input the ICAO code or name of any airport and the map will show all the frequencies of that airport including ATIS, ILS, AND COM. In addition, the map will show the active runway designations, length and width. You can also input ICAO code of any VOR/NDB and the map will show their frequencies. There was a bug in v2.0, in which if you enter ( click on ENT )the ICAO code of an airport, you will lose the flight plan loaded. Now you can go back to the flight plan and with the NEXT/PREV buttons you have the choice of where to start your FP. The gauge will show Flight Plan Title, originating and destination airports, active waypoint, waypoint index and FP crusing altitude. I addition, the gauge will show various useful information, such as, Runway IDs, lenght, width and approach magnetic heading, Airport name, city, and type. NAV1/2 names, codes, distances and ETA's, ADF1/2 names and codes. Finally, the gaugee will show other information, such as, magvar, indicated airspeed, mach, ground velocity, ambient wind velocity and direction, bank angle , and a/c altitude ( radio height ). All the information above and much more on a single gauge window.

P-47D 334th FS "Miss Plainfield"

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the A2A Wings of Power III P-47D Thunderbolt, representing P-47C 42-7945 flown by Lieutenant Spiros 'the Greek' Pisanos of the 334th FS, 4th FG, Finschhafen, New Guinea, 1944. Born in Athens, Greece, in the suburb of Kolonos, on 10 November 1919, Spiros Nicholas "Steve" Pisanos, the son of a subway motorman, came to America in April 1938, as a crew member on a Greek Merchant ship. Arriving in Baltimore, Maryland and unable to speak English, Steve found his way to New York City, where he worked in bakeries and restaurants. As he earned money he started flying lessons at Floyd Bennett Field. In August 1940, he setled i Plainfield, New Jersey, his adopted home town, and continued flying lessons at Westfield Airport. He earned a private pilot's license and, although still a Greek national, in October 1941 he joined the British Royal Air Force sponsored by the Clayton Knight Committee in New York City. Steve began his military flight training at Polaris Flight Academy in Glendale, California. Upon graduation, Pilot Officer Pisanos was transferred to England where he completed RAF Officers Training School at Cosford, England and OTU (Operational Training Unit) at Old Sarum Aerodrome in Salisbury. Pilot Officer Pisanos was posted to the 268 Fighter Squadron at Snailwell Aerodrome in Newmarket flying P-51A's. He later transferred to the 71 Eagle Squadron, one of the three Eagle squadrons in the RAF, comprised of American volunteers flyin Spitfires at Debden RAF Aerodrome. When the USAAF 4th Fighter Group absorbed the American members of the Eagle Squadrons in September and October 1942, Pilot Officer Pisanos was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces. On 3 May 1943, Lt. Pisanos was naturalized as an American citizen in London, England, becoming the first individual in American history to be naturalized outside the Continental United States. Flying his first mission in his P-47 "Miss Plainfield" out of Debden Aerodrome with the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, Lt. Pisanos, "The Flying Greek," scored his first victory on 21 May 1943, when he downed a German FW-190 over Ghent, Belgium. by 1 January 1944 he had become an ace with five confirmed victories. On 5 March 1944, he obtained his 10th victory and while returning from that B-17 escort mission to Limoges and Bordeaux, France, Steve experienced engine failure in his P-51B and crash-landed south of Le Havre. For six months he evaded the Germans and worked with the French Resistance and the American OSS sabotaging the German war machine in occupied France. Lt. Pisanos returned to England on 2 September 1944, following the liberation of Paris. Upon returning to the United States, Captain Pisanos was assigned to the Flight Test Division at Wright Field, Ohio. He attended the USAF Test Pilot School and subsequently served as a test pilot at Wright Field and Muroc Lake, California, testing the YP-80 jet aircraft. During his career in the USAF, Steve graduated from the University of Maryland, attended the Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College. Some Curved or Angled Approaches, Beirut, Washington Reagan, Lugano and Swiss valleys

File Description:
This little project started from my Air Glaciers package when I noticed how indifferent the AI pilots were to terrain. Intrigued by the work of Jim Vile on his "active approach" series I have experimented with interesting approaches that FS9 has not implemented. Using XML files I created curved approaches for Beirut Runway 21 ILS (inbound flights arc across the city), the visual turn to final for Washington Reagan's Runway 19, the circling approach for runway 19 at Lugano in Switzerland (just an arc in this case) and valley approaches for airports in Switzerland at Sion, Samedan and Locarno. Due to AI limitations in FS9 these have all needed to be created as ILS approaches, even at airports without an ILS. Note that your AFCAD layouts do not need to have ILS added to airports that don't have it. In some cases the approach will be called an ILS by the controller, if you can live with that, you might like these. Note that I've included the source XML for each of the approaches so that you can improve upon them if you wish. Note also that they have been tested with the default Microsoft mesh and an addon mesh might alter the proximity of terrain to aircraft. AI aircraft FDEs will, in some cases, be stretched to (and beyond?) their limits. In the case of Beirut I have included two approaches (BOB NDB and "Wide Arc"), the latter less demanding than the former, in case your AI can't fly the BOD NDB approach. Note that although the approaches are designed for AI, I have built full procedures for Lugano and Sion for the user to fly.

File Description:
There are four main northwestern Alaska towns which are serviced by Alaska Airlines, and from which local flights spread out. The northernmost is Barrow. Southwest of Barrow is Kotzebue, then Nome, and the furthest south is Bethel (not yet made). This is the second in a series for local flights from Nome, and it is on the furthermost mainland western point of Alaska, Wales IWK. It is 110 miles northwest of Nome and on the eastern shore of the Bering Strait, with a view of the two Diomede Islands. Wales is a small village with a population of only around 145, strung along the beach on a single road. The airfield is at the northwestern end of the village, with a runway of 4,500 feet of lit gravel aligned 35-17 and an apron at the southern end. There are scheduled flights by the usual Era and Bering Air, both of them originating in Nome and also visiting Shishmaref. The AI includes these flights along with Northern Air Cargo and GA. The runway is just long enough to accomodate a DC6 (as is Shishmaref) and I have revised the AI to include this, along with a revision of the parking at Shishmaref. To the southeast of Wales is Tin City, which was built as a base for the support of radar on the hills between the two. The radar is now automatic and unmanned and the base is unused except for the annual maintenance and fuel supply; I have left the airfield untouched but I have added the hilltop radar and the remains of the cable lift, which was used to get the material for the original station up to the top from the beach below.

Discover FSX Flight (PAFA - PABR) (486 NM) (Heavy Cargo Run)

File Description:
(PAFA - PABR) (486 NM) (Heavy Cargo Run)____Situation Orientation (Fictional) : Twice a year, (GREEN SOLUTIONS) a joint US-UN funded scientific research firm, based in Anchorage Alaska, charters a freighter jet to make a cargo run to (Barrow/Alaska (PABR)) located near the beaufort sea / Arctic ocean, where one of the firm's major research facilities is located. For the September run, it has been arranged that the flight will make a stop over at Fairbanks International Airport- Alaska (PAFA) to pick up additional cargo that a supplier working with the firm shipped to Fairbanks by train. As this run is a pre-winter run, the cargo is heavy and the cargo company have allocated a large freighter ship to handle the heavy cargo load. The aircraft arrived into Anchorage inbound from South America early this morning and departed Anchorage at 11:00 am. It arrived PAFA on time and is loading the additional cargo at a designated hanger. The flight was shedualedto depart to Barrow at 2:30 pm butfreighter paperwork and administrative complexities have caused a two and a half hour delay. Everyone, including you,is frustrated and anxious to get moving. Finaly, ground crews inform you that you will be ready to go in 10 ____Note : Although no significant malfunctions where logged during the first leg of the flight, the aircraft's maintenence logs indicate that during its Panama City departure,the crew logged an abnormalylow climb attitude after take off. However, due to compressed schedual timetables, maintenance operations in Anchorage decided that maintenance would be done after it returned from its charter flight and have given it a green light. As first officer, the captain has instructed you to watch that closley as he has given you control of this leg.
