Twin Lakes Airstrips in British Columbia Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
There are three grass airstrips within sight of each other from the air at Twin Lakes in BC, which is between the close junction of Elkin Lake and Vedan Lake. The two lakes are similarly shaped and sized and in the same narrow valley between high ground that runs north-south; hence the name. Elkin is to the north, and Vedan is to the south. Twin Lakes CAG4 is on the strip of land between the two lakes and it is unclear to me who it belongs to etc. It is not in the Nav Canada copy that I have with me which is from 2010, and the online version does not cover grass strips. It is probably owned by whoever lives in the house next to the red hangar. The runway is 3,600 feet of grass aligned 14-32 at 3,945 feet ASL. Chaunigan Lake Lodge CF83 is over to the northwest from Twin Lakes by around 2 miles or so and as the name suggests it services the Lodge of that name, which is on the northeast corner of Chaunigan Lake. The runway is 2,600 feet of grass aligned 02-20 at 4,900 feet ASL. You might want to read about altitude power reductions for the take off. Elkin Creek Guest Ranch CBL9 is at the southern end of Vedan Lake and serves the ranch. This appears to be another high-budget operation and the runway is 3,670 feet of grass aligned 36-18 at 3,999 feet ASL. I have posted this as three separate airstrips, but I suggest that you add these to your "BC airfields" folder as previously suggested. Up to you. If you find a defect, email me. Ignore the post of Chilanko Lodge posted today. I requested Avsim to delete it but it seems they didn't read the email. It was originally posted as a correction for the original post of the three posted here.

Colville Lake CEB3 in Northwest Territories Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Colville Lake is a small village of around 150 Dene, located to the northwest of the Great Bear Lake and east of the Mackenzie River, 120 miles north of Norman Wells. The village and the airfield are next to each other and to the lake shore. I recently discovered which of the standard terminal buildings had been used there and this, along with information I already had, enabled me to now make the scenery, which is based on an approximate 2010 date. The gravel runway is lit and around 2,800 feet long, aligned 10-28. North Wright Air serves the village from it's headquarters at Norman Wells with daily flights by de Havilland Twin Otters, or "twotters" as they were quickly named among the northern Canadian airline personnel when they were first produced. The approximate time of this scenery is 2010. While testing this scenery I discovered that Tulita (previously called Fort Norman) which is another Mackenzie River airfield to the south of Norman Wells, needs to be reposted due to a terrain fault. If you find an error here then email me please, and note that my email address has been changed to rogwens at Gmail dot com.

Gang Ranch CAY2 in British Columbia Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Gang Ranch is on the eastern side of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, around 50 miles west of Green Lake and 5 miles west of the Fraser River that runs north-south at that latitude (51 degrees 30 minutes north, in round figures). The airfield is among some farm fields and difficult to spot (this will depend on your personal textures and settings) and the ranch buildings are scattered and a mile or two away, the nearest being the owner's house. The runway is gravel, only 1,800 feet long and aligned 08-26 at 2,150 feet above sea level. There is no lighting. I have posted it as Gang Ranch CAY2, but I suggest that you just add it to your previously created "BC airfields" (if you did that) and avoid the inevitable doubling up of common textures etc. Plus that way you will have just one FS9 library post to do and new airfields will not need yet another posting. Up to you. If you find a defect, email me.

Cape Dorset CYTE, Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Cape Dorset is a village of 1,300 or so inhabitants at N 64 13 W 76 31 on Dorset Island, off the southwest corner of Baffin Island. It's Inuit name is Kinngait, which means "High Mountains"; watch out if you fly there in low clouds. The village (again) does not feature in FS9 but is included in this scenery with approximately the right shape, or shapes as there are separate parts. The airfield runway is just under 4,000 feet of gravel 100 feet wide at 158 feet above sea level. There is a double gradient to it, but unfortunately this cannot be replicated in FS.

Cape Dorset had a Hudson Bay Company store as long ago as 1913, and is now known as a centre for Inuit art. I added the roads, a new airfield background, a pond between apron and runway, plus of course there is the scenery file and the AFCAD and AI, which has two planes visiting, a First Air HS748 and a Canadian North Dash 8-100, as per real life.

Waskaganish CYKQ in James Bay, Quebec, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Waskagansh is a village with 2,500 or so inhabitants at N51 28 W78 45 on the southeast shore of James Bay. It was founded in 1668 as Fort Charles (later it became Fort Rupert) and was the first Hudson's Bay Company trading post in the James Bay area. The village's current name means Little House in the Cree language. The village does not feature in FS9 but is included in this scenery with approximately the right shape; just think of it as a hand-made auto-generated village.

I also had to add the roads (the file called "waskROADS"), delete the stock airfield background ("WaskDELETE"), and add a new background ("WaskGRASS") plus of course there is the usual scenery file and the AFCAD and AI. There is also a note in here on what to do about a possible texture problem for the village that I have discussed with two downloaders and solved. I hope.

Beaver Creek CYXQ in Yukon Territory, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Beaver Creek is located at mile 1202 of the Alaska Highway, just east of the Alaska/Yukon border. The populaton is around 100 and the main employment is with the Border Agency, the White River First Nation, or with local tourist lodges. The airfield is a mile north of the town and close to the Canadian border post, which is included in the scenery. It was built by Jack Stalberg in the 1960's, and I have no further information beyond the fact that he loved to fly. The airport serves as an "airport of entry", though it is restricted in hours of opening and in the size of aircraft that it can handle; up to a maximum of only 15 seats. The single runway is 3,745 feet long and 100 feet wide, gravel, aligned 13-31 in FS9, lit, and with vasi at both ends. Righthand circuits for runway 13. There is a 340 feet threshold displacement to runway 31, which is of course unmarked on a gravel runway. The terminal building was recently reclad; I don't like it, but they didn't consult me. The ai reflects the sort of traffic the airfield gets; ie brief paperwork stopovers for GA or small charter flights into Canada from Alaska, usually in the mornings.I have adjusted the local scenery terrain levels to remove adjacent hills that I believe do not exist in real life but are part of the Northern Canada terrain mesh that I have installed. If you do not have this mesh you may find that the scenery works fine for you without the API flatten that is included here. The airfield is at 2,129 feet ASL.

Sachs Harbour CYSY in Northwest Territories, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Sachs Harbour is on the southwest coast of Banks Island on the north side of Amundsen Gulf, around 240 miles northeast of Tuktoyaktuk and 180 miles northwest of Ulukhaktok. The village is the only permanent settlement on the island, and is located where it is to benefit from the harbour shelter provided by offshore land. The population is only 130 or so folks, who live on hunting and fishing with some tourism. One claim to fame is that the island is home to threequarters of the world's population of muskoxen and the second is the largest goose colony in North America. The airfield is on the plateau just above the village at 282 feet ASL. The gravel runway 084T/264T (true bearings in Northern Domestic Airspace) is 4,000' long and 100' wide and lit. The apron is on the south side at the centre of the runway and there is a new terminal building; there is JetA fuel available and perhaps 100LL in drums. To the west of the airfield are the deserted buildings of what was once a Department Of Transport weather station. Aklak Airlines flights (operated by Kenn Borek) fly to Sachs Harbour from Inuvik three times a week in summer and twice a week at other times; the AI will be included in the post of a revised Aklavik, and Inuvik revised and Tuktoyaktuk should be fully installed BEFORE Sachs Harbour.

Paulatuk CYPC in the Northwest Territories, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Paulatuk is on the coast of northern mainland Canada, 200 miles east of Tuktoyaktuk and 170 miles southwest of Ulukhaktok. It is just to the east of the Parry Peninsula, which has at its northern tip the Cape Parry DEW line Main Station. Paulatuk was established in the 1920's, and the population now numbers around 320. Paulatuk airfield is close to the village but on higher ground, while the village follows the curve of the coast. The 4,000 feet of 100 feet wide gravel runway is aligned 021T/201T where T stands for "true" as opposed to magnetic in the Northern Domestic Airspace. Only JETA-1 is available unless there is 100LL in drums. There are flights by Aklak Air from Inuvik, which is around 250 miles to the west; Aklak Air is actually Kenn Borek under a diferent name. The AI is for a daily passenger flight, and for a cargo flight on Wednesdays. In the summer, float planes use the lake to the south of the village, but I have no information as to docks or any other facilities; probably there aren't any.

Inuvik CYXT in the Northwest Territories, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Inuvik is a town of 3,500 or so inhabitants at N68 18 W133 29, which puts it 120 miles inside the Arctic Circle on the east side of the Mackenzie River delta and around 90 miles from where the Mackenzie meets the Beaufort Sea. There is a Canadian Forces base at the eastern end of the field, with shelters for six F18 fighters; the base in one form or another has been there for a while and is the reason for the generous length of asphalt runway.

Inuvik was established in the early 1960's as a replacement regional center for Aklavik which is 40 miles to the west across the delta and which flooded on a regular and inconvenient basis. This probably works without Ultimate Terrain but I haven't tested it. I also haven't tested it in FSX but I was told it works there too.
