TAM Express 1998 AI Package

File Description:
TAM Express was the regional subsidiary of TAM, operating a large fleet of Cessna Caravans connecting the major hubs with small cities across Brazil. The Caravans operated in full TAM colors and filled CGH and other busy airports while making multi-stop trips across the country of Brazil that sometimes went on for the better part of the day. Southeast Airlines 1999 AI Package

File Description:
Southeast Airlines was the late 1998 re-start of Sun Jet International which was a US scheduled carrier that had gone bankrupt in 1997. The airline's livery featured the revival of National Airlines' "Sun King" logo, and the ICAO code and callsign reflected this logo. In contrast to their past, the airline came back as a charter carrier with contracts with tour operators. Most of the charters were between Florida Beach cities or Cruise ports and cities in the Southeast USA. Initially, the airline had a single DC-9-30, but a 2nd was added in July 1999. In 2000, the airline grew and started preforming some sports and private charters and charters to the Western US. MD-80s arrived in 2001, and the airline failed soon after in 2004. Ghana Airways 1998 AI Flightplans

File Description:
Ghana Airways was only 6 years from the end of a long history in 1998. A pair of DC-9-51s flew around West Africa, sometimes on 6-stop flights, while the 2 DC-10-30s(one of which was still in the old livery) flew to New York and the 3 routes remaining in Europe. Though based in ACC, ABJ seems to have had more flights and destinations from the DC-9s. One of the DC-9s was destroyed in a crash landing 2 years later and the airline never recovered, shutting down in 2004. A single Fokker 27-600 was operated by the Ghana Air Force as "Ghana Link", a regional subsidiary of Ghana Airways, in full Ghana military colors. Nigeria Airways 1998 AI Flightplans

File Description:
Unfortunately, between the early 1990s and 1998, Nigeria Airways had drastically reduced it's European network, ending service to places like London and Amsterdam and disposing of most of the A310s and DC-10s. Flights to Dubai were now on a charter basis, with the DC-10 only doing a LOS-KAN-JED route once per week. The DC-10 also did maintenance in MIA, so I included a ferry flight there but it usually sits in Lagos unused. A single PW-powered A310-200 and a DC-10-30 were doing the longhaul flights while the A310s and several 737-200s were flying around Africa. There were 3 A310s stored; 2 in Lagos and one impounded in BRU(to become a cafe in 12/99) with none in flying conditions. I have them sitting idle in LOS as in real life, but since they were not in flying condition, they only do a touch and go landing once per week in the middle of the night. I will give them proper parking spots when I do the LOS ADEX eventually, but delete them if you wish. Flightplans by Chasen Richardson. Repaints are in the Avsim library, filenames included. Air Tanzania 1998 AI Package

File Description:
In 1998, Air Tanzania was basically serving it's entire region of operation, stretching all the way to Yemen and Saudi Arabia! Impressive, especially given the fact that the airline was only operating a single Fokker 27 and 2 737-200s at the time! The Fokker stays close while the 737s do the longer flights. JRO and DAR are the best places to spot these aircraft, though they are usually not on the ground long at all! And to think today this carrier has a modern fleet including the 787 and A220, quite the journey it has been for this carrier. Qatar Airways 1998 AI Package

File Description:
Qatar Airways was only 4 years old in 1998, however, the fleet was already quite different and the livery had changed into the grey colors. The 2 747-200s were gone, having been leased out to Saudia for Hadji flights and never returning, and A300-600Rs had replaced the A310s (A310s would later rejoin for VIP and Freight ops). At the time, London and Munich were the only destinations in Europe and Asia was not served beyond India. Though the fleet was small in 1998, the airline would quickly grow into a large a reputable carrier which now spans the globe and even operates A380s despite the humble beginnings not so long ago! Air Austral 1998 AI Package

File Description:
Air Austral had yet to venture into longhaul flying in 1998, with 2 737-300s and a 737-500 flying to neighboring islands and venturing a bit into Western and Southern Africa. As the Comoros and Mayotte didn't have flag carriers, Air Austral and Air Madagascar connected destinations to these islands beyond RUN. Note that the YVA airport has since closed and the HAH airport further north is used now. These plans use the old airport and a scenery will eventually be created. Today, the airline has grown many times it's size in 1998 and now flies 777-300ERs and 787s across the globe. Repaints for the FAIB 737-300 and 737-500 by APG and Alex\Funk included. Yangon Airways 1998 AI Flightplans

File Description:
Yangon Airways flew a pair of ATRs in competition with Air Mandalay and Myanmar National Airways on domestic routes in Myanmar. I do not show Yangon operating more than 2 ATRs until 2003, but the plans call for 4, with many routes left out! This leads me to think that some other equipment might have filled in for some flights, or that the airline submitted the schedule but then reduced frequencies, but the extra planes are included and segregated. Note that the airline later changed it's IATA code, ICAO code, and callsign when Avianca became "HK", so use the ones above for the 90s. In 23 years, the aircraft has not had a livery change, the paints are on Avsim for both ATRs that operated at the time, though my plans only use one texture. Palestinian Airlines 1998 AI Package

File Description:
Palestinian Airlines was the short-lived hopeful airline of Palestine. Until the opening of the Yasser Arafat International Airport on the Gaza Strip(GZA\LVGZ) in November 1998, all flights were based out of the Al Arish Airport(AAC\HEAR) in Egypt. As I find GZA more interesting, I have made a version of these plans that use GZA and a version that use AAC, as in the September OAG, all flights were using AAC. Scheduled flights were flown by a lone Fokker 50, with 3x weekly to AMM and 2x weekly to JED. The 727-200 was doing charters to cities in the region, so I made representative plans for it using photo data and some other information I was able to find out about the routes and even general timings. The 727-200 departs GZA/AAC at 0830 daily and spends the night upon arrival, so you can often catch it at the home base while still seeing it abroad. Aloha Air 1998 AI Flightplans

File Description:
By 1998, Aloha Air was down to operating 737-200s, having ditched the 737-300s and 737-400s that they flew earlier in the 1990s. The 737-200 would remain the mainstay of the inter-island fleet until the shutdown in 2007. Impressively, every one of the airlines' high frequency routes was daily. The arrival of the 737-700s and flying to the mainland USA would come a little later. The airline would eventually fail in 2008, after a hike in fuel prices and competition from Mesa Air Group's iflyGo! forced the airline into hardship. In it's history, Aloha opearted 63 different 737-200s. Some of them lived on as the company re-organized into the much smalled "Aloha Air Cargo" which is around today.
