File Description:
At 4:30 A.M. on May 10, 1940, three Junkers Ju 52's took off from the Cologne airfields of Ostheim and Butzweilerhof, towing behind them three other aircraft that lacked motors. The first front service of a new weapon, the freight glider, developed by the DFS (Deutsche Forschungsanstalt fur Segelflug / German Research Institute for Sailplane Flight), had begun. A total of 41 DFS-230 freight gliders with 400 paratroopers were launched for this mission. It was their task to take the Belgian Fort Eben Emael near Maastrich. With this successful operation the crossing of the Albert Canal was secured and the cornerstone of Belgian defense fell in German hands.
These assault gliders were also used during the Krete invasion (1941). The DFS 230's last significant use was during the 'Eichen' operation: 10 assault gliders were used to deliver the group of hand picked commandos led by Otto Skorzeny against the Gran Sasso mountain-top hotel that was used to hold Mussolini. The Royal Italian Air Force (Regia Aeronautica) received from Luftwaffe, during 1941, almost 20 DFS-230 and 4 Gotha Go-242 assault gliders. These aircrafts were used only for pilot training until 09/1943.

Complete aircraft. Original GMAX hi-res model, features the usual moving parts, such as all flight controls, canopy, doors and so on (5 different versions); Five different liveries (4 'Luftwaffe' +1 "Regia Aeronautica'); multiview 2D panel (NO VC). Created by Manuele Villa.

B25-B Mitchell Doolittle's Raiders A/C No. 40-2344 for The B24 Guy's OH Download

File Description:
B25-B Mitchell Doolittle's Raiders A/C No. 40-2344, April 18, 1942. Painted over The B24 Guy's B25 Mitchell Overhaul Model. This was mission plane #1. Flownby Pilot: Lt. Col. James Doolittle, Co-pilot: Lt. Richard Cole, Navigator: Lt. Henry Potter, Bombardier: Sgt. Fred Braemer, Engineer/Gunner: Sgt. Paul Leonard. The bomb group attacked targets in the Tokyo area. The North American B-25B was not designed or intended for aircraft carrier use, but there they were, sixteen highly modified bombers sitting on the deck of the USS Hornet (CV-8). They were modified to carry bombs to Tokyo. The B-25s are launched from their maximum range, and flew over Tokyo, bombing several installations. The bombs did little damage, but managed to damage the Japanese carrier Ryuho while it is in drydock. Many of the planes then head to wherever they can make it, since the fuel will be empty before they reach a friendly airbase. All of the B-25 bombers are forced to bail out or crash land except one. Eleven crews are forced to bail out over China, 3 crash land, and the last landed safely at Vladivostok. The crew that landed in Russia was interned, along with the plane, for a while. The crews were all volunteer, and had no carrier experience, yet all sixteen of the bombers were successful on take-off. Texture, and Damage Files included. Note the three windows in both port and starboard bulkheads. By revev. Enjoy!

Martinair "Biafra" Douglas DC-6A Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:

On 13 December 1966 the Dutch charter company Martinair Holland (MAC), proud owner of a fleet of four Douglas C-47, a Douglas C-54B, two Convair 640, and four Douglas DC-7C aircraft, bought a Douglas DC-6A registered PH-MAM. The DC-6A, which at one time belonged to KLM and could transport 11 tons payload or 97 passengers, was aquired in order to replace the smaller C-54B PH-MAE. It was a very popular aircraft among crew and passengers alike. From the late October 1968 till the beginning of January 1970, PH-MAM flew on the Biafra airlift from the island of Fernando Po to Uli airstrip to provide humanitarian aid, on behalf of the Dutch Red Cross. Having returned from this mission, the aircraft was overhauled and used by Martinair for one more year, before being sold to Yugoslavia. The inspiration for this repaint was a coincidental meeting at Schiphol I had many years ago with former Martinair Captain Dries van Ommen. He was in command of PH-MAM during the Biafra airlift. We had a nice conversion, accompanied by the impressive sight and sound of a DC-6 during take off. These are textures only. You will need California Classic's FS2004/FSX Douglas DC-6B CB-16 Base Pack, DC-6A CB-17 Base Pack and DC-6A CB-16 Base Pack (available at http://www.calclassic.com/dc6b.htm). Repaint by Maarten Brouwer.

For FS2004 and FSX.

De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter CIRPAS #236 Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the Aerosoft Twin Otter Extended, in the colors of 762256 (c/n 496). Formerly N83NX, this aircraft is registered with the US Navy, but flying for the Center for Interdiciplinary Remotely-Piloted Aircraft Studies (CIRPAS), a research center at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. The CIRPAS Twin Otter is an instrumented twin-engine turboprop aircraft. It supports individual scientists as well as teams of scientists from various Universities and Laboratories who are interested in lower-tropospheric phenomena and air/sea interaction. Payload may be selected from a large suite of state of the art meteorological, aerosol, and cloud particle sensors, while additional equipment collaborating scientists may wish to include can be integrated as well. Twin Otter mission have been sponsored by ONR, NSF, DOE, NOAA, NASA, CARB, and NRL. Instruments may be installed in racks inside the cabin where a well characterized community inlet delivers ambient air samples, or in pods either suspended by wing-mounted pylons or mounted on a hard point on the cabin roof. Optical ports and windows are on the airplane’s belly and in the cabin roof. CIRPAS staff calibrates and maintains the facility payload and provides fully reduced, synchronized, and coherent data sets to the collaborating scientists. The Twin Otter is based at the CIRPAS Marina Facility, but has been deployed to various locations in North, South, and Central America and Asia. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Aerosoft.
