Douglas VC-118-DO 'The Independence' Download

File Description:
This Douglas VC-118-DO was the personal aircraft of President Harry S. Truman. It was named 'The Independence' after President Truman's home town in Missouri. The aircraft was delivered on 1 July 1947 and served from 4 July 1947 on as a presidential aircraft till 1953 when Gen. Dwight Eisenhower became President of the USA. It seems that the rather special paint job was based on an idea by President Truman himself. 46-0505 served on as a general VIP transport till 1966 when it was donated to the Smithonian Institute for preservation. It is on loan to the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.'The Independence' could accommodate for 24 day or 12 sleeper passengers (in the main cabin). It had a luxurious State Room aft of the passenger door. Usually there was a crew of eight. It is featured here in its original tan, blue and metal livery. You will require Jens B. Kristensen's great FSX Douglas DC-6 (early version) (dc6_v20x.zip). Original textures by Jens B. Kristensen. Repaint by Maarten Brouwer.

Thomas Hudner AFB Download

File Description:
Thomas Hudner AFB is a fictitious Air Force Base located at Henderson Island, a member of the Pitcairn Islands in the Pacific. Located in a sheltered bay on the east side of the island, the airport features a 7500' x 120' paved runway, several hangars, barracks, and a fire dept. This airport also features a Delta V rocket and launch pad, a container ship being unloaded offshore by hovercrafts, and a small military ship. The default FSX scenery at this island has been completely replaced with custom scenery and terrain based on satellite photos. This scenery requires the FSX Acceleration expansion pack for all of the objects to show up properly. Also, for some reason, Ground Environment X causes the sand textures to show up as rain forest. This is purely a visual quirk and the airport will still work, but it is up to you. This airport is not designed for FS2004, but you may try it at your own risk. Special thanks to Ashton Lawson for his invaluable help on this project.

Pilatus PC-6C KLU, IFOR, Sarajevo, 1996 Download

File Description:
Pilatus PC-6C H2 Turbo Porter for FSX by Tim Conrad in a Royal Netherlands Air Force livery. The PC-6C Turbo Porter has been an amazing contribution to the STOL aircraft fleet around the world for decades. It's robust airframe and excellent aerodynamics make the plane very popular for para-drops, but also for supply missions in remote area's throughout the globe. Despite it's age the aircraft is still widely in use. This repaint represents a "what-if" RNLAF PC-6C in toned down camouflage 336 Sqn colours, IFOR, Sarajevo 1996. The Sqn logo is the old Curacao (Netherlands Antilles) 336 version which back then ended their F-27 Maritime operations. The RNLAF did participate in the Former Yugoslav, Bosnian peace enforcing operation with aircraft including C-130's, F-16's, and BO-105CB's. The aircraft shares the same registration as my earlier Surinam based livery (PC-6C_KLU.zip), but weathered, tone-down camouflage and 24 years later. You need the excellent freeware PC-6C H2 Turbo Porter by Tim Conrad in order to use this repaint. Enjoy!

ETUO - RAF Gutersloh AB Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
FS 2004 scenery - RAF Gutersloh AB (ICAO: ETUO)

The scenery represents the former airbase of RAF Gutersloh, one of the most populated military bases in West Germany during the Cold War, due to its location near the former East/West border. This scenery reflects the era at the end of the 1980s/beginning of the 90s, when the Harrier GR3 was in operation there, along with Chinook helicopters.
The airfield was built in 1935 and was used by the German Air Force during WW2, flying the Junkers JU-86 and Heinkel H-111. The first British squadrons were stationed there from 1947, with Mosquitos, Vampires and then Canberras.
The first Harrier arrived at Gutersloh in January 1977 and 3 and 4 Squadrons became resident until their farewell in 1993, after the cold war had ended. The airfield is currently used by the British army, but they will leave in 2014 to relinquish the area to the Government of Gutersloh for civil usage.

High detailed scenery by Manfred Schyma and Pete Beeby, supported by the Airfield Construction Group.

PASY - Shemya (Eareckson Air Station) - Alaska, USA Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Shemya is pretty well AT the western end of the Aleutian chain of islands in Alaska, around 240 miles west of Amchitka. There is no town on Shemya and the whole island is occupied (and owned) by the Air Force. There are three runways, two of which are from the 1940's and are now unused; in fact one of them has been partly ploughed up and also used for outdoor storage. The single in-use runway is aligned 10-28 and is 10,000 feet of 150 feet wide asphalt with an ils on 28, the runway that is used 99% of the time. The base is now not active but is maintained as a refuelling facility, so for landing and takeoff purposes it is open. The older and now unused areas are those where the hangers are slowly rusting away and the asphalt is turning green with encroaching and well-watered wildlife plants. The tower is now closed, so there is no atc and you just announce your intentions. Read the history of Shemya, a lot happened there.

A.V.I.A. L.3 (Part 1) Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
The L.3 was a partially failed attempt to create a very simple and cheap monoplane trainer, better suited to the entire basic training syllabus of Regia Aronautica pilots from 1940 onwards. This open cockpit version was also adopted for 'lead in' training, by the Croatian Air Force, and eventually the Luftwaffe, and by the A.N.R. for assault glider pilot training. Some also served as 'unit hacks' during WW2. Full details are in the supplied contextual history.

This release (Part 1) provides two open cockpit MDLs, with different landing gear, many relevant liveries, a combined contextual history of both the open and closed cabin versions, and an illustrated Student Training Manual to allow realistic simulation of the wartime Axis 'lead in' training syllabus. The Part 2 of this release will later feature the enclosed cabin version.
VC only. It also works subject to some limitations within in FSX. GMax Models and Skins by Manuele Villa, Flight dynamics by FSAviator. By Manuele Villa/MVG3D, January 2015.

RAF Hilbaldstow - Lincolnshire, England Download

File Description:
RAF Hibaldstow is a former Royal Air Force satellite airfield located south of Hibaldstow in Lincolnshire and 8.3 miles (13.4 km) south east of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. The airfield was built with greater things in mind, but it only became a satellite airfield for RAF Kirton-in-Lindsey in 1941. When the runways were constructed, some of the hardcore was made from material taken from demolished bungalows on the site.

The airfield was commissioned on 12 May 1941 when No. 255 Squadron RAF took up residence with their Boulton Paul Defiant night fighters. These planes had been drawn from RAF Kirton-in-Lindsey and made one 'kill': an He 111 which was shot down near Louth on 5 June 1941.

On 6 August 1947 the station finally closed and during 1960-61 it was sold off for use as agricultural land. It was also used for Sunday markets, as a skid-pan by Lincolnshire Police and by a local parachute club. The control tower was converted to a two-storey house in 1976.
