Douglas R4D-8 US Navy #17171

File Description: This folder contains a repaint for the Douglas C-117D by Manfred Jahn and colleagues in the colors of 17171 of the US Navy, which made an emergency landing in Iceland in 1973. On the 24th of november of that year, the Douglas R4D-8 17171 on route to Höfn í Hornafirði was forced to make an emergency landing at Sólheimasandur due to bad weather conditions at Höfn and low fuel. The landing was successful and the plane suffered no major damages. At the time the US navy was discontinuing it’s use of the Douglas C-47 and instead of repairing it, the plane was stripped of all valuables and abandoned in the black volcanic sand. Since then it’s been a favourite of photographers and adventure seeking tourists. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Gman5250.

GPS Enabled Oil Rig Platform

File Description:
An FSX Oil rig placed at the correct real life coordinates about 100+ miles from Aberdeen and Peterhead. The landing pod has GPS facilities and a code of RIG1 Meaning you can start at the pod and/or fly to it by entering RIG1 into the GPS Direct To. A Cargo Ship sails from the tidal Aberdeen Harbour at 06:18 Local time and heads for Peterhead which is an hour away. It joins another Cargo ship there and the two set sail for the Piper alpha rig some 5 hours away. Sailings are twice a day and can be followed by boat plane. The rig landing pod is excellent for landing practice in a helicopter and especially with the built in GPS coordinates.

Primary Flight Display (PFD) Updates

File Description:
A good flight has to end with a great landing. For a great landing you will need precision. And for precision you need an accurate and readable RadioAltimeter (radalt) reading. FSX does provide radalts with most jets (B737, A321 etc), but they are not accurate and sometimes not readable (e.g. the A321). With this update 3 different types of aircraft receive a correction to the radalts readings and they are now easily read, almost like the real thing.
