MKJP Kingston Jamaica 1955-58

File Description:
This scenery represents the airport of Kingston Jamaica before the opening of the long modern runway and stylish terminal which became Norman Manley International Airport. The runway was largely complete by 1959 and the terminal was opened officially in 1961. The airport in existence prior to that was a much simpler affair, although Jamaica as a destination was attracting carriers such as BOAC and Trans Canada.

YPDN 1960 Darwin Intl.

File Description:
In 1919 when the England to Australia air race was announced, Darwin Airport was established in the suburb of Parap to act as the Australian Terminal. It operated as two airports, a civilian airport and a military field. In 1945 the Department of Aviation made the existing Darwin military airfield available for civil aviation purpose. As a result, the civilian airport at Parap was closed down and airport operations combined with the military airport. Between 1950 and 1974 Darwin Airport acted as the primary domestic and international airport for the Northern Territory and a very important stop for airlines such as Qantas.

Lisbon Airport 1959 (LPPT)

File Description:
Detailed scenery for Lisbon Airport circa 1959. Lisbon Airport (LPPT) is the largest airport in Portugal. While Lisbon was a critical stop on the early flying boat route across the South Atlantic, at the end of the 1950s Lisbon Airport itself was still important as a European gateway, particularly for South American and African traffic. Lisbon Airport, which in that period handled a total of almost 21,000 aircraft movements (12,600 of which were by commercial aircraft), was used regularly by no fewer than 21 international airlines.

Rabah Bitat Airport (DAAB) Algeria - Scenery

File Description:
Formerly known as Les Salines Airport, and popularly as El Mellah Airport is an international airport located 9 km south of Annaba, a city in Algeria. It is named after Rabah Bitat a president of Algeria (1978-1979). During World War II the airport was known as Bone Airfield, and was used by the German Luftwaffe. Later captured by the United States Army, the USAAF Twelfth Air Force in the Western Desert Campaign in 1942-1943.
