| Riga Airport - EVRA - Latvia |
|
File Description:
This scenery represents the main international gateway airport to Latvia. Riga is the home of airBaltic, RAF-Avia, Inversija, Lat Charter, Latpass, and is becoming involved in the low-cost destinations boom, with services by Ryanair already established and new services by Aer Lingus. The airport is also in talks with Easyjet regarding the possibility of services. For longer-haul, Uzbekistan stages a 767 through here to New York, and Israir operates a weekly 757 service to Tel Aviv. If you fancy flying an An-72 or IL-76 in FS9, you now have an airport to go with it. Gate numbers at the pier are accurate, gate numbering elsewhere is guesstimated; the airport has full night lighting. As with my Sharjah scenery (just receiving a minor upgrade) I have included a fair amount of off-airport detail. Please enjoy your stay in Latvia!

| PABV - Birchwood airfield - Anchorage, Alaska - USA |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Birchwood PABV is in Alaska, some 20 miles northeast of Anchorage, on the south shore of Knik Arm. It is a smaller version of Merrill Field, almost entirely for just GA aircraft and the maintenance shops that a gathering of such aircraft attracts. The main runway is just over 4,000 feet long, aligned L01-R19 and asphalted and lit; this last is even more important in Alaska with short winter days. There is also a shorter and parallel runway that is gravel and which receives no winter maintenance; this is for winter use by planes that are on skis, rather than wheel/skis. This is not unusual and is found at other Alaska airfields. This scenery provides a place to fly to from my previous posts of Merrill Field and Lake Hood close to Anchorage. There will be others in this series, on the northern side of Knik Arm.

| Point Ellis cannery V1, for Holger Sandmann's Tongass Fjord scenery |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
This is a revised version of Point Ellis cannery, originally posted in 2007. It is unsurprisingly just east of Point Ellis, on the east side of the southern end of Chatham Strait in southern Alaska. It is marked on the chart of the area, and if you are chartless then there is a piece of the chart here. This scenery is designed specifically for use in the Tongass Fjord scenery, and probably doesn't work with just Ultimate Terrain. The cannery has an identifying code so it will show up on a gps as "PECA". There is no interaction with atc as there are no designated water runways, so the "PECA" on the gps just acts as a waypoint. There will be further posts for use with Tongass Fjords, Misty Fjords, and Glacier Bay, and I still find these scenery areas by Holger and his crew the most satisfying in FS9.

| Salluit CYZG in Hudson Strait, Quebec, Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Salluit is a village of 1,250 or so inhabitants at N 62 W 75 40 on the shore of Sugluk Inlet, which is off Hudson Strait. It's name means "Skinny Ones" in Inuit, and refers to a time when there was not enough to eat, which is a rather scary reminder of just how fragile Inuit survival used to be. The village does not feature in FS9 but is included in this scenery with approximately the right shape and with the roads that lead to the airfield and what I presume are quarries for building materials and roads. The airfield runway is 3,510 feet of gravel 100 feet wide and is some 740 feet higher than the village on the shoreline. I added the roads, the quarries, a new airfield background, plus of course there is the scenery file and the AFCAD and AI.

| The Victoria Falls of the Zambezi River, Zambia/Zimbabwe |
|
File Description:
One of the main landmarks of Africa, the spectacular Victoria Falls of the Zambezi River are missing in out-of-the-box FS. With a local SRTM LOD9 mesh as a base (included) and the help of satellite imagery, maps, Ground2K4, and GMax, we did our best to model a realistic representation of the falls, the river, and the gorge, complete with custom waterfall and spray effects. The portion of the Zambezi covered in this project extends from E25 to E26.5 (more than 100km), with the falls at its center. Also included is a replacement landclass file for an area of about 20km on either side of the Zambezi River and an optional AI boat (by Lynn and Bill Lyons) cruising on the Zambezi above the falls. Tested with FS2004 only but most scenery enhancements (not the AI boat) should work just as well in FS2002.

| Goodspeed Airport (42B) - East Haddam, Connecticut |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Goodspeed is a privately owned airfield in East Haddam, Connecticut that operates as a public access general aviation facility. The runway is a short 2120 feet and is carefully placed in a shoreline meadow of the Connecticut river. Surrounded by the dense forests and community, the airport is a tight approach, further hampered by the presence of the East Haddam Bridge, which sits under the runway 14 approach. The airport has limited parking facilities for transient aircraft, and it is not common for visiting aircraft to park in the grass in front of the "terminal". Hanger facilities are provided as well. Nearby is the famous Goodspeed Opera House, established back in the 19th century, the house still has operas other performances regularly.
Features:
-High Resolution Ground textures around airport;
-Accurate models of all airport buildings;
-Detailed taxiways and runways;
-Super HD grass and pavement;
-Custom aerial imagery for area, including autogen;
-Full seasonal textures (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter);
-Various "Easter Eggs";
-Deer (at dusk);
-Christmas Lights (During the Holiday Season);
-Night Textures;
-Runway Lights, obstruction lights;
-And much more!

| Camden Field in Trinidad |
|
File Description:
Camden Field was once a wartime American airfield, which shows up in the wide east-west runway that has more recently been partly resurfaced. There are no runway markings beyond a centre line, and it just sort of tapers off at the sides and the eastern end into the bush. In contrast to the renovated hangar to the north of the western end of the runway the buildings to the south haven't been touched by any recent tender-loving-care. There is a wonderful patched-together shed and a small control tower, which was built on the edge of the existing runway. This makes it appear rather close to the edge of the resurfaced runway area. Do not be fooled, this is not an illusion; it IS close to the edge of the runway. Just take comfort in the thought that the prevailing southeast winds (for much of the year) will tend to blow you away from it as you approach for a landing from the west. And I kept the pre-renovation version of the old hangar when I found some old pics of the crop dusting operation from five years ago.

| Airstrips of Switzerland |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Just a small collection of of ai-enabled airfields, that don't appear to have been implemented by other authors, to further expand my Airstrips of Europe project.
Again, there's no photo-realism here, just a selection of basic 'generic' buildings, more or less accurately sized and placed to reflect the airfield layout as seen on on-line satellite imagery and aerial photography. These buildings have minimal effect on frame-rates, so are ideal for this kind of job. The airfields are aligned as well as possible with the roads etc. in UT Europe and the Genesis Europe mesh, but should mostly be fine in a default installation or other configuration. As before, the files for each airfield can be easily identified by the ICAO code, even if the airfield names vary slightly, so you can pick and choose and mix and match to suit any sceneries you already have, should you so wish. There is no requirement for any other download. Each airfield will exist as a stand-alone entity should you only want a few of them. Please read the rest of this "blurb" in the included text file. There may be some details of note or interest.

| Wrigley CYWY - Northwest Territories, Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Wrigley is the next in a series of airfields that follow (approximately) in a southward direction that early access route to the Canadian northern shore, the Mackenzie River. At the far northern end there is Tuktoyaktuk, then Inuvik, Fort McPherson, Fort Good Hope, and Deline, all posted. Wrigley is at 489 feet asl and on the east bank of the the Mackenzie, around 135 miles due south of Deline. The town of Wrigley has a population of only 125 or so folks, and was relocated to its current position in 1965 from Fort Wrigley to be near the WW2 era airfield; I have no idea where Fort Wrigley is, or was. The airport is just over a mile south of the town, and has 3,500 feet of gravel runway. North Wright Air have scheduled flights to here and other airfields up and down the Mackenzie (including Deline, Fort Simpson, and Fort Good Hope etc) which is reflected in the revised AI. There is again a mandatory radio frequency but I have set the "tower" as unmanned so you will announce intentions and join downwind. There is no fuel available.

| Kugluktuk CYCO in Nunavut, Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Kugluktuk is on the coast of northern mainland Canada on the mouth of the Coppermine River. It is around 250 miles west of Cambridge Bay and 200 miles south of Ulukhaktok. Tuktoyaktuk is 450 miles west. Kugluktuk used to be called Coppermine as copper was mined along the banks of the river and used for spear and arrow heads, and this attracted a semi-permanent population. The population now numbers around 1,450. The airfield is inland from the village and the 5,500 feet of 100 feet wide gravel runway is aligned 121T/3301T where T stands for "true" as opposed to magnetic in the Northern Domestic Airspace. Both JETA-1 and 100LL are available, dispensed by a truck as the storage tanks are just off the northern edge of the field. There are flights by First Air and Canadian North and the AI includes a daily flight of each, plus a cargo visit by Buffalo; the closest large city is Yellowknife, 375 miles south. I should have mentioned a long time ago that to see the apron lights working requires you to have the "lights_ss_v2" by Sidney Schwartz installed.
