Tips and Tricks - Number 16. This issue has somewhat of an International flavor to it as several items we are reviewing have come to us from distant shores. Our readers have again provided a number of very useful Tips and recommendations. Also included are the usual assortment of "How-To's", links to useful sites, and much, much more. In addition, there is a "from the E-mailbag" department where we try to answer a question of general interest submitted by a reader. Modifying Cockpit Nighttime Lighting in FS2004 - an Illustrated Tutorial. This tutorial will show you how to easily modify the nighttime lighting of virtually any panel. Also included is a replacement set of panel icons which can be used to light the default panel icons at night also. No programming knowledge is required. The tutorial uses the default B737-400 as an example but the concept may be applied to any panel. Please unzip (using folders option) to a temporary location and follow the tutorial instructions. File Description:
These are scans from an old Air Canada DC-8 manual. The charts include hard-to-find takeoff thrust settings for the Rolls Royce Conway engines on the DC-8-40 series. Also includes stabiliser settings for takeoff, and 'Turbulence Penetration Speed (IAS) and Level Flight EPR' tables.

Not long ago I embarked on a project to streamline my flight simulator's AI setup. I knew I had too many aircraft texture sets that I was not using, too many unnecessary night texture files, installation of defunct airlines, and the like. So, I put together a spreadsheet showing my AI system with all the airlines and additional pieces such as vehicles and ships. This has been a very large and time-consuming project as my AI system has more than 7,000 texture sets, more than 2,200 airline folders, and other assorted AI components. Inside you'll find an Excel spreadsheet with all my airlines (more than 2,200) listed, Birds, Blimp, Corporate Aircraft, Defunct Airlines, Douglas DC-3, Float Planes, Government Aircraft, Helicopters, Medical Aircraft, Military Aircraft, Personal Registration Aircraft, Ships, and Vehicles - all associated with the FS AI system. In addition, I've included the spreadsheet's source text files for those that do not have Microsoft Excel. NOTE: You can download an MS Excel spreadsheet viewer (freeware) from the Microsoft site. Because of copyright restrictions and the size of my AI system, I have not provided links to specific files. However, I think you'll find the data very useful.
