Mackenzie is around 120 miles west of Peace River and the BC/Alberta border, at the southern end of Williston Lake. The lake is 135 miles long and the population of the town is about 3,500; those figures illustrate typical Canada, a huge area enjoyed by the few. The main occupations relate to timber and mining in some form, plus tourism (in particular winter sports tourism). The airport is 2 miles southwest of the town, with no regular scheduled flights but it is not unusual to find Central Mountain Air there delivering either charter passengers or freight. The single runway is aligned 16-34 and 100 feet wide lit asphalt that is just over 5,000 feet long, with (in 2010 or so) an additional 1,500 feet of gravel. There is PAPI at both ends of the asphalt. The largest operation based at the airfield is a helicopter company, at the northern end of the apron. There is a "mandatory frequency" of 123.5 which is a Canadian invention; you MUST have a radio. There is no control tower at the actual airfield, and if or when there is no response from further afield then you announce your intentions etc. In FS9 there is no way to "switch off or on" the monitoring of a MF radio frequency so you will find that this one is always silent.

| Rae Lakes CYRA at Gameti in the Northwest Territories, Canada |

Gameti is a village in the Northwest Territories, around 65 miles north of Whati which was recently posted. Until 2005 the village, which has a population of around 280, was known as Rae Lakes and the airfield is now renamed Gameti/Rae Lakes as shown in the 2010 version of the Nav Canada Flight Supplement, my standard reference year. Permanent settlement was established there in 1965. There is no all-weather road access and the village is reliant upon the airfield for supplies, along with an ice road in the winter months. The airfield is a mile or so east of the village, with a lit gravel runway of just over 3,000 feet aligned 14-32 and with PAPI at both ends. The airfield is served by Air Tindi from Yellowknife on an almost daily basis, included in the AI here along with some GA and a Friday delivery by a Buffalo DC3 that uses all of the runway. The runway has lake water at each end, ready for the unwary. A note here about my scenery making. There will not be many more to follow this as I am almost at the end of the photos I either took or found for scenery purposes, plus I expect to move on from FS9 at some point during next year.

File Description:
GaugeGlow is an easy to use tool that allows you to quickly set or adjust an aircraft's 2D panel lighting and the luminous glow of your MS Flight Simulator aircraft's lumious instruments. The virtual cockpit (VC) lighting is controlled by gauge designer and aircraft modeller, and cannot be modified by GaugeGlow.
GaugeGlow gives you a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) view of a sample aircraft panel & instrument with easy to use but sophisticated tools to discover the RGB lighting values to create the right lighting effect for your panel. Before GaugeGlow, a panel designer would have to "estimate" desired RGB values for lighting settings, modify configuration files, and then run Flight Simulator to see if they got it right. With GaugeGlow, you can select colors easily with slider controls, and imediately see the effects on panel and gauge lighting just as it will appear in FS under any lighting conditions.
The licensed registered user will be able to easily open any aircraft's panel, to load existing settings, make changes, then save them. Unregistered you'll have to take the data you see and using your knowledge of the SDK, edit the aircraft's config files to make the actual change in that aircraft's night lighting.

Not long ago I embarked on a project to streamline my flight simulator's AI setup. I knew I had too many aircraft texture sets that I was not using, too many unnecessary night texture files, installation of defunct airlines, and the like. So, I put together a spreadsheet showing my AI system with all the airlines and additional pieces such as vehicles and ships. This has been a very large and time-consuming project as my AI system has more than 7,000 texture sets, more than 2,200 airline folders, and other assorted AI components. Inside you'll find an Excel spreadsheet with all my airlines (more than 2,200) listed, Birds, Blimp, Corporate Aircraft, Defunct Airlines, Douglas DC-3, Float Planes, Government Aircraft, Helicopters, Medical Aircraft, Military Aircraft, Personal Registration Aircraft, Ships, and Vehicles - all associated with the FS AI system. In addition, I've included the spreadsheet's source text files for those that do not have Microsoft Excel. NOTE: You can download an MS Excel spreadsheet viewer (freeware) from the Microsoft site. Because of copyright restrictions and the size of my AI system, I have not provided links to specific files. However, I think you'll find the data very useful. | Metro Oakland with Active Crosswind Runways |

File Description:
A high spec AFCAD2 for the FS2004 Metro Oakland Int'l Airport (KOAK) scenery by the Mach-1 Design Group. This afcad has been built using FAA Charts, various aerial photographs and information from the Airport Website. All taxiways are named and all aprons are reworked to be as real as possible according to photos. All gates are named and have airlines assigned to them. As per real life, only Southwest Airlines will use Terminal 2, all other airlines being allocated to Terminal 1. The Fedex and UPS aprons are represented and can accomodate many cargo aircraft. The final parking area is random GA parking to the north of the airport. Overflow parking is also available for rush hour periods. This airport features a tower view and also night and approach lighting. Finally, by using the crosswind runway technique, runways 9L/27R, 9R/27L and 11/29 can all be used simultaniously for take-off and landing. Runway 15/33 is closed as it is not used in real life. An extra taxiway "Zulu" has been added (not real life) to avoid AI conflicts when using runway 29 for Takeoffs and landings. Enjoy!! Requires that you install m1dg_oak2007.zip from this site.

Steamboat Springs (KSBS), Flat Tops Wilderness Area, Colorado, Photo-Scenery (FS9 & FSX)
The Flat Tops Wilderness Area, which is the second largest wilderness area in Colorado, is named for its many flat topped mountains that are clearly visible from the sky. Trappers Lake, located in the north of the area inspired Arthur Carhart, a US Forest Service official, to initiate a plea for Wilderness preservation as early as 1919. Finally in 1975, three years before his death in 1978, the Flat Tops were designated a wilderness area. No wonder he found the area so entrancing: Behind Trappers Lake loom majestic volcanic cliffs, and beyond them a vast subalpine terrain reluctantly yields to alpine tundra with an average elevation of about 10.000 feet. More than 100 lakes dot the country above and below numerous flat-topped cliffs. Steamboat Springs is an internationally known winter resort destination.
To explore the scenery depart from Steamboat Springs Airport (KSBS) or Yampa Valley Airport (KHDN) and head south. High resolution versions of this scenery for FS9 and FSX (much sharper, but larger and multiple downloads) are available at www.blueskyscenery.com/GNB_West2.html . The screenies are taken from the high-res versions, so expect this version to be slightly more blurry. "Euraka!" I cried in the middle of the night. My wife rolled over and mumbled "its not me, it must be the cat". But I was pleased with myself, for I had suddenly thought of a way to eliminate Microsoft's radiused corners where taxiway meets runway. They are a nifty arrangement, when you want them, but at this airport (clearly evidenced by Google Earth) they do not exist on the concrete connections. So here is a revised version of my Googlyafcad for WPDL Dili-Comoro-Komoro-Presidente Nicolau Lobato International or whatever it is called today. I considered calling this version 1.0062A so as to impress but I think you might prefer me to call it it version 2. Unfortunately, Microsoft's perception of this airport in Flight Simulator is a wee bit under scale and the ramp areas provided barely allow the parking of a flea, never mind the Boeing 737s that serve this airport. This A&F Data file allows you and "AI" traffic to land, park and take-off in the proper manner. But there is more . . . the Google Earth picture clearly shows three parked
helocopters, so to give the place a little atmosphere, I've provided an additional file which will place three static helicopters at the airport. They will only show if you have the Rwy12 libraries
installed, but the file won't bite if you don't. (replaces af2_wpdl.zip)
