Port McNeill CAM8 float base in British Columbia, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is the seventh in a series of new and renovated float bases in BC. Port McNeill is a float base in a sheltered inlet on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, close to the town and just under 20 miles east of the Port Hardy float base. There is no fuel available as the Port Hardy floatbase (already posted) acts as a refuelling centre for this and other float bases in the neighbourhood. The dock is to the west of the marina and east of the log raft area. The AI is a further adaptation of the CF36 AI and involves Beavers as listed in the AI folder. At Port McNeill all the AI works for both landing and takeoff for all of the planes, no matter what the wind direction is. All of these float bases can be installed together in the same folders, with a saving in duplicate textures. So a series called BC Floats (or whatever you want to call it) or individually installed float bases; your choice. The next in the series was suposed to be Sullivan Bay, another floating marina, but I digressed to Port Hardy and Port McNeill.

CZFN - Tulita - Northwest Territories, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Tulita (Fort Norman until 1996) is another in the series of airfields that follow (approximately) the Mackenzie River. At the far northern end of the river and on the eastern side of the delta there is Tuktoyaktuk, then Inuvik, Fort McPherson, Fort Good Hope, Deline, Wrigley, Fort Simpson Island and Fort Simpson, and then Fort Liard at the southern end of the list of those in the Northwest Territories. South of Fort Liard there are Peace River and Dawson Creek, both of which are already posted. Tulita is at the junction of the Mackenzie and Great Bear Rivers, on the east bank of the Mackenzie and the south bank of the Great Bear, around 40 miles southeast of Norman Wells. The town has a population of about 480 folks. The airport is above and to the east of the town, and has 3,000 feet of gravel runway. The scheduled flights are by North Wright and I have also added a Buffalo DC3 and GA. There is a mandatory radio frequency but in this case I have set the "tower" to "unmanned" so you will report position and intentions. There is no fuel available.

LGSK - Skiathos Airport, Greece Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
LGSK Skiathos Airport Greece. Skiathos Island lies off the east coast of mainland Greece and is often referred to as 'Europe's St. Maarten' with landing aircraft skimming the beach and the nearby harbour. At 5341feet the runway is short and narrow and usually only captains are allowed to perform landings. Seasonal taffic includes Munich, Gatwick, Rome, Oslo and Stockholm, with scheduled flights to Athens. This scenery has been designed to sit on the excellent photoreal scenery by Angelo Tassoglou, available here on Avsim, just search for 'Skiathos.zip'. Please note, it will not work with the default terrain. It also uses many objects from my LGKF Kefallinia scenery, also available here at Avsim. The scenery features added vegetation, detailed airport buildings based on real photographs, animated windsocks, flags, road traffic, people, trees, waves, birds and air traffic. All the scenery files have been divided so they can be switched on or off according to user preference. It has been designed for and tested in DX9 and FSXA only. Please enjoy and I hope you like my scenery as much as I enjoyed building it. Required files: skiathos.zip by Angelo Tassoglou LGKF Kefallinia by George Keogh

RAF Driffield Download

File Description:
The site was first opened in 1918 by the Royal Air Force (RAF) under the name of RAF Eastburn, before closing in early 1920. However, in 1935 a new airfield was built for the RAF initially training bomber crews before closing in 1977 when the site was turned over to the Army for use as a driving school being renamed Alamein Barracks.

The army used Driffield as a driver training centre, until RAF Leconfield (which was also taken over by the Army in 1977) was enlarged to accommodate those who lived and trained at Driffield. In 1992, the RAF regained ownership of this historic aerodrome, naming it: RAF Staxton Wold – Driffield Site. Once again, the RAF ensign flew over Driffield, but not for long. In 1996, the RAF itself transferred its own personnel and facilities to RAF Staxton Wold, thus bringing an end to 60 years of service. On 28 June 1996, the RAF ensign was lowered for the last time, bringing to an end RAF Driffield. It is used as a CTC (cadet training centre) for army cadets and houses 873 Driffield Squadron air training corps

Moving Ground Objects Viewer / Editor Download

File Description:
Moving Ground Objects in FU3 are independent of the Megatile name and just defined using the UTM coordinates. So far it must be possible to go even outside the region rectangle. The models are moving on the surface but can go in the air or underground also. All moving objects are defined in movgrobj.dat files placed in the model subfolder of each scenery package or for the hard coded objects in the /models folder of the region. Using this utility you can - Load and view the FLED movgrobj.dat as tree view. - Sort the Objects by Object name, Model name or Index - Clone the selected Object, then edit to modify the Object Name - Edit the Parameter on the selected Object as inside FLED - Move the Object Path to another location - Generate a simple long distance path or spiral path - Selecting by check mark the Objects you want save in the movgrobj.dat file - Save the result back to movgrobj.dat or another file as binary backup - Export a tab separated list of the entries usable in MS-EXCEL or MS-Access - Export a single Object in a .mgo file for an Import into another movgrobj.dat file - Now you can create a collection of single moving ground objects stored in .mgo files

Airline Inventory Download

File Description:
Not long ago I embarked on a project to streamline my flight simulator's AI setup. I knew I had too many aircraft texture sets that I was not using, too many unnecessary night texture files, installation of defunct airlines, and the like. So, I put together a spreadsheet showing my AI system with all the airlines and additional pieces such as vehicles and ships. This has been a very large and time-consuming project as my AI system has more than 7,000 texture sets, more than 2,200 airline folders, and other assorted AI components. Inside you'll find an Excel spreadsheet with all my airlines (more than 2,200) listed, Birds, Blimp, Corporate Aircraft, Defunct Airlines, Douglas DC-3, Float Planes, Government Aircraft, Helicopters, Medical Aircraft, Military Aircraft, Personal Registration Aircraft, Ships, and Vehicles - all associated with the FS AI system. In addition, I've included the spreadsheet's source text files for those that do not have Microsoft Excel. NOTE: You can download an MS Excel spreadsheet viewer (freeware) from the Microsoft site. Because of copyright restrictions and the size of my AI system, I have not provided links to specific files. However, I think you'll find the data very useful. See the readme file for a list of possible sources and contact information. Frank Bass

Strawberry Fields Airport (89NJ), NJ Download

File Description:
Located 02 miles N of Mays Landing, New Jersey on 220 acres of land, Strawberry Fields Airport is a private turf/sand strip. SkyVector lists the runway as 2200' long, but as measured during development it is closer to 3000'. In addition to Runways 14 and 32, there is a second runway that is not listed in the airport directory and presumed closed. However if you need it in an emergency the numbers are 03 and 21 (no starts are available for these runways). This airport is not lit and is best used only during daytime VFR conditions. The windsock can be found at the intersection of the two runways and is also not lit. You will be landing on bare terrain so have your mesh complexity slider set as high as possible for best effect. Scenery constructed with use of satellite images/streetview/aerial photos - the author has not been there in person. This scenery is meant to be used in conjunction with MegaScenery Earth New Jersey/Delaware 003. It is not required, but apron use is minimized to allow satellite scenery to show through as much as possible, and objects are placed based on the MSE textures - lack of it may make scenery look out of place.

Bridgeport-Cahill Field Airport (6NJ9), NJ Download

File Description:
Located 01 miles SW of Bridgeport, New Jersey on 167 acres of land, this airport is non-existent in real life, as far as I am able to determine. although it is still listed as Active, no visible trace of anything remotely suitable for a landing strip is visible anywhere in this area. The strip mining operation nearby in some satellite/aerial photos shows a long narrow grass strip that could be used as a runway, but then others show it stripped down to bare dirt as part of the apparent mining operation, and the MegaSceneryEarth textures depict this latter representation as well. So I have simply removed visible evidence of this strip, although FSX will still try to tell you it's there in the airport directory. Scenery constructed with use of satellite images/streetview/aerial photos - the author has not been there in person. This scenery is meant to be used in conjunction with MegaScenery Earth New Jersey/Delaware 004. It is not required, but apron use is minimized to allow satellite scenery to show through as much as possible, and objects are placed based on the MSE textures - lack of it may make scenery look out of place.

CYHD - Dryden Regional - Ontario, Canada * Updated v2 * Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This greatly modifies my previous (2009) post of Dryden; this version has bespoke buildings and is stand-alone and does not require you to have the previous post. There will also be follow-up posts of Sioux Lookout and Geraldton. Dryden is in northern Ontario, 110 miles east of the Manitoba border, 40 miles west of Sioux Lookout, and with the US border 90 miles to the south. The town is on the northern shore of Wabigoon Lake and has a population of around 7,800. The main business is pulp and paper, along with agriculture, tourism, and mining. The airport is 5 miles northeast of the town. Dryden Regional has 6,000' of asphalt which in FS9 is aligned 11-29. The second runway is compacted sand 2,000' long and aligned 05-23. There are two aprons, the western being for the terminal building and some ga parking, and the eastern larger and used in the summer for parking fire fighting planes, along with maintenance hangarage and accomodation etc. The Ontario Fire Service planes were included with my original Geraldton post and are included here again; they fly back and forth and keep Dryden busy along with several Bearskin Airlines and Perimeter Aviation flights.

Kangiqsualujjuaq CYLU in northern Quebec, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Kangiqsualujjuaq is in northern Quebec on the east side of Ungava Bay, which is to the east of Hudson Bay and around 150 miles wide and 120 miles deep. Kuujjuaq, the administrative capital of northern Quebec, is 100 miles to the southwest. The town is on the bank of the George River, and has also been known as Fort George River, George River, etc. There was a Hudson Bay trading post at the town's location as early as 1838, though it was closed and reopened more than once and the town did not grow because of the trading post; the Inuit lived on the coast during the summer but moved 30 miles inland in winter for trapping. A cooperative was formed in 1959 to market fish, and this was the creative force that brought about establishment of the town; a school was built in 1963.

The airport is to the north of the town in a valley between the surrounding hills at 215 feet ASL. The gravel runway is just over 3,500 feet long and aligned 16/34; there is no PAPI, but there is fuel available, both 100LL and JetA. There are flights by Air Inuit and a warning of caribou on the runway during October and November.
