RAF Catfoss

File Description:
RAF Catfoss was a Royal Air Force station during the Second World War. The airfield was opened in 1932 for an Armament Training Camp. A small number of fighters were posted there at the start of the Second World War, before the airfield was rebuilt as a bomber station. It closed in November 1945. The site was re-opened in 1959 as the site for the PGM-17 Thor ballistic missile. It closed again in 1963.

A basic rebuild of the original FSX KVSF Hartness State (Springfield) Airport using ADE as editing tool with standard FSX library. The basic design is based on both Skyvector & Google Earth data to match the geography of the real airport as of February 2017.

RAF Dalton

File Description:
RAF Dalton was named after a local village although it was closer to RAF Topcliffe who it was intended to be the satellite for. RAF Dalton was home to No. 102 Squadron beginning in November 1941. No. 102 Squadron returned to Topcliffe in June 1942 and for a time Dalton hosted No. 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit (HCU) flying Halifaxes. The airfield was improved in 1942 and in early 1943 was allocated to No. 6 Group Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Canadian squadrons stationed here at one time or another included No. 428 Squadron, No. 424 Squadron, No. 420 Squadron, and No. 1666 Heavy Conversion Unit (which moved to RAF Wombleton in October 1943). The station also housed no. 1691 Bomber Gunnery Flight (BGF) RCAF and its successor, No. 1695 Bomber Defence Training Flight (BDTF) RCAF, the last RCAF unit to serve at this station. In November 1944, control passed from No. 6 Group to the new No. 7 (Training) Group. By August 1945 all units at Dalton were disbanded or transferred and the Station closed in 1946. Source:Wikipedia

RAF Scorton

File Description:
RAF Scorton was opened in October 1939 as part of 13 Group Fighter Command and a satellite station of RAF Catterick. It was located near the village of Scorton in North Yorkshire. It was used by the Royal Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force during the war. The location was chosen for its flat terrain and its situation close to the now disbanded Eryholme-Richmond branch line that had a sub branch line to Catterick Garrison and RAF Catterick. The famous No. 56 Squadron RAF flew Spitfires from Scorton during the Second World War. Also the USAAF 422d and 425th Night Fighter Squadrons were stationed at Scorton flying the Northrup P-61 "Black Widow" fighter. The Aerodrome closed in 1945 and most of the concreted areas have been extensively quarried away for sand and gravel extraction. Most of what was the airfield is now under a lake or a quarry. RAF Croft

File Description:
The airfield was opened in 1941 for use by the Royal Air Force (RAF) but by 1942 the aerodrome had been taken over by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) for training as part of No. 6 Group RCAF. The station is now more famously known as the site of Croft Circuit, a motor racing circuit which hosts various car championships including the British Touring Car Championship. Source:Wikipedia

RAF Barkston Heath - 1944

File Description:
At the time of its construction, RAF Barkston Heath in common with a number of other airfields in the Grantham area had been planned for the RAF's No. 7 Group. In late 1943, Barkston Heath was made available to the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force and designated as USAAF station 483. It was earmarked for basing troop carrier units scheduled to be transferred from Sicily to participate in the forthcoming cross-Channel invasion, Operation "Overlord" American 61 TCG aircraft based at Barkston Heath carried British paratroops on the ill-fated operation Market Garden. The USAAF returned control of the airfield to the Air Ministry in June 1945 when the war in Europe ended. Barkston Heath was used by No 256 Maintenance Unit and No 2 RAF Regiment. Beginning in May 1948., RAF Barkston Heath has the Naval and Army Elements of No. 3 Flying Training School (3 FTS) which, for a period between approximately 1995-2010 operated the Slingsby T67M260 Firefly two-seat trainer. The school now operates the Grob Tutor T1. A secondary role of RAF Barkston Heath is as a Relief Landing Ground for the flying training activities at RAF Cranwell. Source: Wikipedia

RAF Greenham Commom

File Description:
RAF Greenham Common (ICAO X2GC) is a former Royal Air Force station in Berkshire, England. The airfield was southeast of Newbury, about 55 miles (89 km) west of London. It was opened in 1942, and was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War and the United States Air Force during the Cold War. After the Cold War ended, the station was closed in 1993. The airfield was also known for the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp held outside its gates in the 1980s. In 1997 Greenham Common was designated as public parkland.
