File Description:
P-51D-20 44-63983 #538 was assigned to Captain John Benbow, who was operations officer of the 457th FS, Based in Iwo Jima, summer 1945. He was killed on his sixth VLR mission on 16 july 1945. Although nobody saw what happened, he was probably shot down by Major Yohei Hinoki, a Japanese ace who claimed a P-51 destroyed that day.
