Terrace CYXT Updated Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This revises the previous versions by adding two missing buildings, corrects the apron markings and parking and adds a third gate, creates more GA parking, updates the AI to include, for instance, a Westjet flight, and most importantly of all adds the ILS to runway 33. It is complete in itself and can be installed as-is without first installing previous versions. Terrace is fifteen miles east and inland from Prince Rupert, which is 500 miles north of Vancouver up the BC coast. It is at the point in the mountains where two fjords meet, one coming from Prince Rupert and the other from Kitimat. The population of the town is around 12,500. The airport is called Terrace-Kitimat and is a couple of miles south of the town of Terrace, on the south side of the Skeena River. There are two runways, and the main one is a recently-extended 7,500 feet long and lit 33-15 with approach lighting to both ends and an ILS on 33. The second is 5,373 feet of unlit 03-21. The apron has been enlarged to be able to accommodate a Boeing 737, though there is at the moment no airline using a 737 for flights to Terrace. The pics and the video show the surrounding hilly terrain and the nearby river between the airport and the town.

Air Charter Bristol Britannia (G-ANCE) Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Textures for Jens B. Kristensens Bristol Britannia 300 model (BRT_V10.ZIP). These textures decipt Britannia 307 c/n 12921, built at Belfast as Britannia 305 destined for the U.S. Northeast Airlines. But not taken up she was delivered 1958 as Britannia 307 G-ANCE to Air Charter Ltd. London, the first airline founded by the famous aviation intrepreneur Freddy Laker. The aircraft made severall trooping flights between London-Stansted and Christmas Island in the Pacific via Goose Bay, Vancouver and Honolulu. Carrying up to 124 passengers, troops and service personal, in a journey time of 29 hours to the Island, which was used for the British nuclear test programme. The Britannia made many further trooping flights to the, at that time, numerous British overseas bases in the Gulf, Australia, Singapore, Ceylon, Canada and Hong Kong, carrying servicemen and their families. One of these flights reached around the world for 26 100 miles in 72 hours from London via Bahrain, Colombo and Singapore to Adelaide and Sydney, then to Christmas Island and back eastbound via San Francisco and Montreal to London. G-ANCE went together whis sistership G-ANCD to British United Airways BUA in merger and was sold 1965, converted to freighter 307F, to Lloyd International, then 1972 to Monarch and 1974 to Aer Turas. Withdrawn from use in 1979 she was stored at Manston and later at Dublin, 1981 finaly broken up at Dublin.

Consolidated PBY-5A (G-PBYA) Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
A repaint for the Aerosoft PBY-5 Catalina in the colors of G-PBYA, originally ordered for the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Canso A amphibian, basically equivalent to the US Navy PBY-5A. It was built by Canadian Vickers at Cartierville, Quebec and was allocated their constructors number CV-283 before adopting the RCAF serial 11005. It was taken on charge by the air force on 27 October 1943 and initially saw service with 9 (Bomber Reconnaissance) Squadron at Bella Bella on the British Columbia coast between Vancouver and Prince Rupert. It was on their inventory from November to the following August. 9 Squadron had been based at Bella Bella for some time prior to the arrival of Cansos, having operated Supermarine Stranraers there. The Cansos were mainly operated from water despite their amphibious undercarriages and were used on day and night patrols, looking out for enemy submarines. By mid-1944, the threat of a Japanese invasion of Western Canada had receded and it was decided to disband 9 Squadron and close the station at Bella Bella. The Cansos, including 11005, were flown to Alliford Bay in the Queen Charlotte Islands, also in British Columbia, and transferred to 7 (BR) Squadron in August. The job was the same – anti-submarine patrols mostly – and 11005 remained with 7 Sqn until it too was disbanded on 25 July 1945. After a post-war career as transport and waterbomber, it was acquired by Plane Sailing in 2004, restored and repainted as a OA-10A of the USAAF. It is based in Duxford. More info here: http://www.catalina.org.uk/. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Aerosoft.

Echo Bay CAA7 in British Columbia, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is the fifth in a series of new and renovated float bases in BC. Echo Bay is a floating marina on the northwest coast of Gilford Island, just 6 miles northwest of Health Bay (the previous post in this series). It is run by a beard called Pierre and his wife, and the food seems to attract crowds. Watch the video, and others about the marina; some of the more interesting buildings are replicated here, others are representative. There is no fuel or oil available but you can post a letter as there is a post office in the store that sells food etc to boaters. The AI is a further adaptation of the CF36 AI and involves a Baxter Beaver flying from Port Hardy on a round trip in the area through Port McNeill, Health Bay, Echo Bay, and Sullivan Bay, plus Harbour Air from Vancouver, and small GA. At Echo Bay the AI appears to work for both landing and takeoff for the Beaver and sometimes for the Otter, depending on wind direction. All of these float bases can be installed together in the same folders, with a saving in duplicate textures. So a series called BC Floats (or whatever you want to call it) or individually installed float bases; your choice. The next in the series will be Sullivan Bay, another floating marina. I have used what was a RWY12 boat here, but my RWY12 no longer includes the "Port and Sea" part that included this and other boats. Somewhere I must still have the textures as they are showing up as required, but I cannot find them to include them here. Hopefully your installation will find them on your hard drive and use them. If not, complain to me and I will attempt to demonstrate diligence.

CZNL - Nelson - Nelson, British Columbia, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Nelson is a town with a population of around 10,000, located 250 miles or so east of Vancouver on the southern shore of an east-west offshoot of Kootenay Lake. The surrounding landscape can be described as "steep" without fear of contradiction, and the diagram of arrival and departure routes (included here) shows that straight finals to either end of the runway are non-existant. The airport is right beside the water, with a single runway 3,100 feet long and 75 feet wide, aligned 04/22. The apron is at the western end. There are a number (3?) of helicopter companies based at the western end of the apron, and there is also a terminal building, though there are in fact no regular scheduled flights; there are occasional charters to cater for town events during the summer tourist season. There is no runway lighting, or taxiway or apron lights, so usage is effectively restricted to daylight hours (though not legally stated as such). All circuits are over the water and not the town, though even this means you climb quickly and dog-leg to follow the water until you have gained enough altitude to turn. Winter maintenance is limited. And if all this is not enough you are advised to "watch for wildlife on the rwy". The nature of the surrounding terrain makes AI hit-and-miss; mostly hit. AI Planes will taxi out and then take off, and provided you don't follow them until they fly into a mountain it will all appear normal. Planes that are arriving will appear by magic on their parking spots, as they have crashed before they arrive. To avoid repetitive unrealistic arrivals I have limited the AI to only 3 planes. The scenery includes some of the nearby buidings and landmarks, as shown in the screenshots.

Fort St James CYJM in British Columbia Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Fort St James is a small town of around 1,600 folks at the southeastern end of Stuart Lake, at the head of the Stuart River, and around 360 miles north of Vancouver and 220 miles inland from the coast. It was a long-established trading post for furs, with a permanent presence there from 1806 onwards. The airfield is 3 miles south of the town and is called "Fort St James (Perison)" in the Nav Canada listings. I presume that this is part of their trend towards calling airfields by their location rather than by their name. Makes sense as it is difficult to find information by searching for an airfield that is listed under a name you don't know. The field has an asphalt runway of 4,000 feet aligned 10-28 and at 2,364 feet ASL. There is no lighting. The main user of the airfield is Interior Helicopters Ltd. who are based there as operators, and at Williams Lake as helicopter dealers. For the AI helicopters, there is a screenshot (01) of the AS350 helicopter installation folder when it has been transformed into an AI helicopter. The process is to download and install the Ecuriel AS 350, along with the additional textures, as normal; this is straightforward. Then you download the software shown in screenshot 02 and add it as instructed and as shown in 01 so that the helicopter now operates as AI, with a different air file and a modified config file. I should have included this with the Pemberton post. I have posted this as Fort St James CYJM, but I suggest that you just add it to your previously created "BC airfields" and avoid the inevitable doubling up of common textures etc. Up to you. If you find a defect, email me.

Port Hardy CAW5 in British Columbia, Canada Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is the sixth in a series of new and renovated float bases in BC. Port Hardy CAW5 is in a sheltered inlet on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, close to the town and just 6 miles northwest of the Port Hardy airport. There is fuel (both JetA and 100LL) and also oil available, and the base acts as a refuelling centre for the other float bases in the neighbourhood. The dock is one-sided as the northern side borders a shallow area that is in fact exposed at low tide, as is most of the inlet to the south of BC Packers (adjacent to the float base, to the south). The parking along the dock is maximised by backing up each plane by hand so that it is close to the one behind it; this is not possible to replicate with AI in FS9 (watch the video). Watch out for the log boom on the other side of the inlet, it is there to protect fish farm "pools". The AI involves several Beavers and Otters, as listed in the AI folder. At Port Hardy all the AI works for both landing and takeoff for all of the planes, no matter what is the wind direction. There is a pic of the Supplement Port Hardy page, showing the two take-off and landing areas plus the third area that is to be used for take-off before 7am. All of these float bases can be installed together in the same folders, with a saving in duplicate textures. So a series called BC Floats (or whatever you want to call it) or individually installed float bases; your choice. The next in the series was suposed to be Sullivan Bay, another floating marina, but I digressed to Port Hardy and Port McNeill (next to be posted). The two hotels by the nearby marina are included. One of them gave me weird problems and I gave up on achieving the correct shape.

Consolidated PBY-5A (C-FCRR) Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the Aerosoft PBY Catalina for FSX. It is shown here as C-FCRR, with Air France colors. Built by Boeing of Canada at Vancouver, it became RCAF Canso 9767 on March 4, 1943, and was allocated to Squadron 162, coded S, at Reykjavik, Iceland. In 1944, piloted by Flying Officers Thomas Charles Cooke and Eric Walter Wiskin, 9767 sank the German U-boat U-342 off the coast of Iceland on April 17. The amphibian was removed from the military service on April 1, 1946. The same year it was sold to Canadian Pacific Airlines, registered CF-CRR and assigned fleet number 233 (later 933), it was operated until 1959, thereafter by Northland Airlines (1960-1968), Midwest Airlines (1969-1970), and Ilford Riverton until 1973. The registration was changed to C-FCRR when Avalon Aviation acquired it as a water bomber in 1977, listed as Tanker number 791. In 1995 the aircraft was bought by Powell Eorp. Of Parry Sound, Ontario, subsequently it was owned by the Canadian Air Legend. The French pilot Franklin Devaux bought C-FCRR in 1995 and converted it to a flying television studio, it was based at Le Bourget, Paris, France. During 1996 C-FCRR was the star of monthly French television programme Operation Okavango, while in September 1998 it was the eye catcher of the three-week Champs-Elysees (Paris) static air show. The following October the aircraft started an 8,078 mls (13,000 km) trip to Chile via Dakar (Senegal) and Natal (Brazil) to commemorate early Air France South Atlantic mail service, returning to France in June 1999. On January 19, 2002 the aircraft was stored at Orly Airport, Paris, and has not flown since. Its Canadian registration was cancelled on October 7, 2005. At present it seems to be registered as N9767, and in airworthy condition again. Here's a youtube movie on this aircraft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6jyzV8Gawc. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the repaint kit by Aerosoft.
