Italian Air Force, Lockeed F-104G "Starfighter" |
![]() |
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Lockheed's F-104 "Starfighter" was sleek, sexy, and difficult to fly. Essentially a J-79 turbojet with tiny wings and a place for the pilot to sit, it had a poor turning radius and very unpredictable behavior at high angles of attack along with very high takeoff and landing speeds. Its strength was never in its agility, but rather in its speed. The type was the only aircraft in existence at the time that could sustain speeds of over Mach 2.0, and it had a stellar rate of climb.
The "Starfighter" was an icon among jet interceptors throughout the 1970s. It was built also in Italy (G version), under licence. The first Italian F-104G flown during the end of 1962 and the last one (S version) was retired from active service in 2004 (42 Years !!!).
Textures only for two "Starfighters" of the 9 Gruppo of 4 Aerobrigata of the Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Italian Air Force), the first unit to receive the "Starfighter", based on Grosseto Airport, Italy, 1963/64. These textures require a legal copy of the payware Alphasim F-104G. The paints were done with the paintkit provided by Alphasim/Frank Safranek and the metal base textures provided by Henry William. Italian Air Force Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb |
![]() |
File Description:
The Spitfire MK V was one of the best known marks, powered by the Merlin 46 of 1440 hp. It served from the Summer of 1941 on, and was the first Spitfire to serve overseas. The trop was modified to operate in dusty and adverse envionments such as North Africa. These modifications extracted a small performance penalty. The Regia Aeronautica (Royal Italian Air Force) received 53 Spitfires Mk V from R.A.F., during August of 1944, but , due to their poor conditions, only 33 of them were used. These planes, assigned to 20 Gruppo of 51 Stormo were based on Galatina Airport (Lecce, Italy). Two of these Spits flown during the last mission of Regia Aeronautica during WW2 (5 May 1945). Textures only for payware 'Sky Unlimited Spitfire Mk V'. Repaint by Manuele Villa.

Royal Italian Air Force Lockeed P-38J |
![]() |
File Description:
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was one of the most prominent fighters throughout WWII in both major theaters of operation. P-38s scored some of the first victories in the Pacific Theater. In Europe, they often provided high-altitude long range escorts for bombers. A P-38 was captured by the Italians on 12th June 1943 after a mistaken landing in Capoterra airport (Cagliari, Sardinia). After a while, with 'Regia Aeronautica's insignas (Royal Italian Air Force), it was flown by Colonel Angelo Tondi in a fighter mission over Torvajanica (Rome), where a B-24 was shotted down. The aircraft was finally grounded due to the damages caused by Italian fuel to the tanks.Textures only in 'Regia Aeronautica' livery for payware 'Sky Unlimited Lockheed Aircraft P38 Vol.1'. Royal Italian Air Force, Fokker D-VIII |
![]() |
File Description:
The Fokker EV,later designated the D VIII,was one of the most controversial aircraft produced by Fokker in WW 1. It was a masterpiece of simplicity, the designer, Reinhold Platz, had cut to the bone all the struttery and wire bracing and the result was undoubtedly the "cleanest" fighter of the time.It was nicknamed "The Flying Razor"for obvious reasons. It was flight tested with glowing reports of it's speed, handling and manoeuvrbility. It could be produced using much less man hours than it's contemporaries. There is little doubt that if sufficient numbers had been available in time, it would have been a real thorn in the side of the allies. The Fokker D VIII was never proven in combat, apart from one aerial victory. Italy received three Fokker D VIII after the end of WW1 as "War Damages Compensation", these aircrafts were based on Montecelio (Guidonia) Airport, near Rome and were used only for tests. After 1930 they were sold to civil pilots. This aircraft, with I-ELIA code, were used during the 1931's "Air Show" (Giornata dell'Aria) at 'Littorio' Airport (Rome) and were demolished during 1940. Textures only for Frank Elton's fs2004 Fokker D-VIII model (PEGASUS AVIATION DESIGN). Repaint by Manuele Villa.

Italian Air Force, Curtiss S2C-5 'Helldiver' |
![]() |
File Description:
The Curtiss SB2C replaced the Douglas SBD in Nov of 1943, not well received by most Naval Dive Bomber pilots who didn't think it was a fitting replacement for the sturdy reliable and well-liked SBD. It was called the "Son of a Bitch 2nd Class ", "The Beast" and the "Big Assed Bird". All the Italian 'Helldivers' (C-5) were renamed S2 instead SB2 due to the armistice conditions that forbidden Italy to have bombers, for this reason all their bomb-bay were sealed before the delivery.
Textures only for two S2C-5 'Helldivers' of the 86th Gruppo Antisom (Antisubmarine Warfare) of the Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Italian Air Force), Grottaglie Airport (TA), Italy, 1954/55 and one of the Italian Navy (M.M.I. Marina Militare Italiana) during the crews initial training at NAAS Cabaniss Field, Corpus Christi TX, 1951. These textures require the new and beautiful FREEWARE FS9 Curtiss SB2C-4 HELLDIVER by Wolfang 'Wolfi' Faber downloadable at http://www.sim-outhouse.com. Repaint by Manuele Villa.
