Come and visit the area and maybe even try to soar over to Dyer (2Q9) on the Nevada border or try to see Mammoth Yosemite (KMMH) in a sailplane. The area will make for a good weekend of soaring fun.

Alamagorda,New Mexico is ideally suited for ridge soaring when the moderate breeze is coming from the west. With the mountains just to the east of town you can spend an enjoyable afternoon soaring along the ridge line and getting a great view of the white sands to the west. There is some thermal activity out over the desert floor but you must be careful since Holloman AFB is out there and also the White Sands Missile Range. All ridge and thermal lift was installed manually using the Thermiek thermal program.

You have to make the most of the lift when it is available since some of these peaks are high. Lots to do here for a Saturday of entertainment, maybe trying to soar from KDRO over to 2V1 and even trying to miss the golf course when landing at 2V1. Other short adventures such as this are available so give it a try.
