| Nenana PANN Runway and Taxiway Lighting in Alaska |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Nenana is in Alaska, and already posted here. This posting adds proper runway lighting to the two runways and also includes taxiway lights. Both runway and taxiway lights are visible during the day and at night there will be properly lit runway and taxiway lights. First of all, download and install the Library Objects once and for all from either the Allakaket Lights or Anaktuvuk Lights postings earlier this month. Put the bgl's into the existing scenery folder of your previous Nenana PANN installation and say yes to replace the existing bgl's that have the same names. Put the textures into the existing texture folder. There will be further retro upgrades to other recent scenery that was posted with temporary lighting. Say thank you to Greg Putz for making the lighting.

| Anaktuvuk PAKP Runway and Taxiway Lighting in Alaska |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Anaktuvuk is in Alaska, and this posting adds proper runway and taxiway lighting to the scenery, as shown in the screenshots. There will be runway and taxiway lights visible during the day and at night there will be lit lights that properly illuminate the runway for landing, and at a lower level of brightness the taxiways. Put the bgl's into the existing scenery folder of your previous Anaktuvuk PAKP installation and say yes to replace the existing bgl's that have the same names. Instal the Library objects once and for all by placing the CONTENTS of the Lighting Library scenery folder in your static objects scenery folder and the CONTENTS of the texture folder in the static objects texture folder (which is how I install scenery objects libraries). Alternatively, put them in the scenery and texture folders of your Add on scenery folder, or even in the main scenery and texture folders. They just have to be in related scenery and texture folders that are always active when FS9 is running. If you do all this and there are no textures to the lights then put the library textures into the Anaktuvuk texture folder too; FS9 has done some strange things while I was making scenery so I would never rule out a possibility.
There will be further retro upgrades to other recent scenery that was posted with temporary lighting. Say thank you to Greg Putz for making the lighting.

| Galena PAGA Runway and Taxiway Lighting in Alaska |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Galena is in Alaska, and this posting adds proper runway lighting to the gravel runway that is used in the winter by light planes on skis, and because of that is not cleared of snow; unfortunately a gravel surface that gets snow covered in winter cannot be replicated in FS9. There are also taxiway lights visible during the day and at night there will be lit taxiway lights. I did not attempt to replicate the complicated main runway lighting which is well covered anyway by FS9. First of all, download and install the Library Objects once and for all from either the Allakaket Lights or Anaktuvuk Lights postings earlier this week. Then put these new bgl's into the existing scenery folder of your previous Galena PAGA installation and say yes to replace the existing bgl's that have the same names. Add the texture folder contents to the existing texture folder as they are required for the red warning lights at the ends of the gravel runway. There will be further retro upgrades to other recent scenery that was posted with temporary lighting. Say thank you to Greg Putz for making the lighting.

| Cordova Smith PACV & Municipal CKU in Alaska US |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Cordova is on the south coast of Alaska, around 150 miles east of Anchorage and 45 miles south of Valdez. The town is mainly built on a small but relatively flat area between the east side of Prince William Sound and Eyak Lake, and has a population of around 2,350 in 2010, the approximate date of this scenery.
The Municipal Airfield CKU is on the north side of Eyak Lake to the east of Cordova, with the runway that is 1,800 feet of unlit gravel squeezed between the lake and the road that runs around the lake. The hangars and parking aprons are reached by taxiing across, and to some extent along, the road. Float planes are also taken from the lake to an apron to the west of the runway.
Cordova Airport PACV (named in the real world "Merle K. (Mudhole) Smith", and I will leave you to research this) is known as Cordova Smith in FS9 and is 10 miles to the east of the town on relatively flat ground between mountains to the north and the sea to the south. The runway is 8,080 feet of lit asphalt aligned 09-27 with ILS on runway 27 and VASI on both ends. The aprons are to the north side of the runway and are reached by back-taxiing; there are no taxiways parallel to the runway. The main apron serves Alaska Air via the western of two taxiways. The GA parking and hangars are mainly reached by using the eastern taxiway, though there is in fact a connecting taxiway between the two (for GA, but definitely not for airliner use). The taxiway further to the west serves the separated Alaska Coastguard apron and hangar, which is mainly for helicopter use. There is a nominally grass runway 1,900 feet long and aligned 16-34 to the south of the main runway; in fact it appears to be more gravel than grass. I have left this inactive as otherwise AI Alaska Air planes would be attempting to use this when the wind made it seem like a good idea.
The AI includes Alaska Air (twice a day) and also Coastguard helicopters, along with GA.

| Schefferville CYKL & Squaw Lake CSZ9 in Quebec Canada |
|
Images related to this file:
File Description:
Schefferville is a town in an area of Quebec that is surrounded by Labrador, the border taking an unusual wriggly course instead of the normal Canadian straight line. One has to presume that there was a lot of political negotiation involved. Take a look at Google Earth to see what I mean. The town was established in 1954 (initially at a site a bit north of the present location, and with a different name) to support newly established iron ore mining. To assist with the exploration for further iron ore and the construction of the railway it seems that there was a forced relocation of native population. Although iron ore mining around Schefferville in its current location flourished through the late 1960's these relocated folk were neglected and suffered "destitute poverty". Through the 1970's iron ore mining declined and ceased in Schefferville in 1982, when most of the 4,000 or so non-native residents left. Since the year 2000 there have been moves to reopen mining in the area and production restarted in 2011, the approximate date of this scenery. The main reason why iron ore mining started again in Schefferville as opposed to any other area in Quebec or Labrador is the existing railway, used for ore transportation. There is no road connection and the airport is the only other means of access for the 250(?) town inhabitants. This population figure is somewhat of a guess, and the town inhabitants are largely company officers who change and move in and out as required by their work. Schefferville airport is to the east of the town. It has a single lit asphalt runway that is aligned 18-36 and is 4,975 feet long and 150 feet wide, with PAPI at both ends. Air Inuit flights connect with Kuujjuaq to the north and Sept-Isles to the south with onward connections to all parts of Canada. There are other charter flights for company personnel. The terminal building has been renovated and the photos show just how dilapidated it had become before this was done. I like it. This scenery also includes Squaw Lake, a float base that is used by Air Saguenay. Or was, as the company was closed in 2019 after an accident involving several deaths. The reason for Air Saguenay establishing a float base here was, once again, the railway, which allowed people to reach Schefferville for a reasonable cost. They could then use the float planes for a shorter distance and reasonable price to reach fishing lodges on the lakes to the north. |
File Description:
An Olympic Air repaint for the PMDG Boeing 747-400. It uses the same colors as the actual 747-200 the company was running. The aircraft Callsign SX-OAA named "Olympic Zeus". It's not 100% accurate but is as close as i could make it. Enjoy!
