| YLEA Leeman, Western Australia (Snag Island) airstrip and town |
|
File Description:
YLEA Leeman - formerley Snag Island is a tiny fishing village which is ideal for fishermen and holiday makers eager to get away from the more commercialised centres. Calling itself the 'Home of Western Australia's Dhufish' the settlement boasts huge and dramatic white sand dunes, good beach and offshore fishing, safe beaches for surfing, swimming and sailboarding, and superb displays of wildflowers in the spring. Leeman is home to a crayfish (lobster) fishing fleet which plies the fishing grounds off the coast in the season. The industry developed in the 1950s and has since become one of the most important on the Central West coast. It is also a dormitory suburb for the nearby sand mining town of Eneabba. | YKLN Kulin Town and YJLN Kulin, Jilakin Rock, Western Australia |
|
File Description:
YKLN Kulin Town and YJLN Kulin, Jilakin Rock. Kulin is located in the upper great southern Wheatbelt of Western Australia, the Shire of Kulin covers an area of 4,790 square kilometres. It encompasses the towns of Kulin, Pingaring, Dudinin, Jitarning, and Holt Rock. The Kulin economy is based on agriculture and was settled by pastoralists in 1905. The crosswind runway is actually 7 miles to the east at Jilakin Rock and slopes uphill to the east. For convenience, I have used fictitious YJLN. Jilakin Downs is a Dorper sheep stud farm and the home of the Kulin Bush Races. Dorpers are currently under a cloud in Western Australia as the local abatoirs claim their hair is contaminating the meat and won't accept them. "We welcome air traffic to our 2012 Kulin Bush Races Weekend. A crosswind airstrip is available, with a shuttle bus service to the Jilakin Track. GPS position is S32-39-95 E118-18-71 and the elevation is 950 feet. The strip is 7 nautical miles east of the town of Kulin. Camping and toilets are close to the strip so that you can camp near your plane.
Kulin airstrip is also available for landing and takeoff during the weekend, a shuttle bus is available to take you out to the race track. If this option is chosen please contact Barry West. Please contact Barry West for flying information on 9880 9021" www.kulin.wa.gov.au/tourism_and_local_events/kulin_bush_races/flying_visit.html REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

| YCRW Crawley Bay, Western Australia, US Catalina Base - QANTAS base (Historic 1942) |
|
File Description:
YCRW Crawley Bay USAF Catalina Base - QANTAS base (Historic 1942). This location was where the famous double sunrise flights left for Lake Koggala in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) between 1943 and 1946. Suited to Rick Stone's PBY5A Catalina. The USAF used the north side of the point and QANTAS used what is now the boat ramp at Nedlands. Remember, Perth was only about two or three stories high in those days so for a realistic enactment, totally overload the aircraft (towards the front) and just point between the buildings until you gain some height. To cover the distance, cruise at about 110kts and 500 feet. Don't forget the passengers stand at the front on takeoff and can be seated after you are in the air. (move the weights backwards after taking off) REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

| YUSL Useless Loop Salt Mine and works, Shark Bay, Western Australia |
|
File Description:
YUSL Useless Loop Salt Mine - now with bgl textures for ORBX. Useless Loop is located in the Southern Region of Shark Bay, Western Australia and is a closed company town, servicing the Solar Salt Operation Shark Bay Salt which has been in operation since 1968 and whose salt is renowned as the purest in the world. The first half of Useless Loop's unusual name was bestowed upon it by French explorer Henri-Louis de Saulces de Freycinet, who dubbed the area "Havre Inutile" ("Useless Harbour"), because he believed the inviting harbour to be entirely blocked by a sandbar. Model includes salt mining and village site. In real life the airstrip can be used "by permission" or in emergencies. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip
