TACAN Replacements, Waypoints & Routes - UK Modern Download

File Description:
By default, all of the TACAN navigational aids present within FSX have the bearing component turned off, so as to properly represent the real world result of tuning in the DME component of a TACAN with a civilian plane. However, this limits their functionality when you wish to use them in conjunction with a plane (generally military) equipped with a representation of a functioning TACAN system. This download contains replacements for all of the currently active TACAN ground stations present in the UK, along with custom TACAN route waypoints as well as UK MIL AIP documentation and maps. These allows the user to fly the TACAN routes as per real world operations, as well as use TACAN approach charts.

RAF Polebrook Download

File Description:
On June 28, 1942, RAF Polebrook was officially turned over to the USAAF and the airbase became the base of the 97th Bombardment Group, the first USAAF heavy bomber organization to arrive in the UK. It was designated USAAF Station 110. The 97th BG was assigned to the 1st Combat Wing, at RAF Bassingbourn. It's operational squadrons were divided between Polebrook and RAF Grafton Underwood: 340th Bomb Squadron (RAF Polebrook) 341st Bomb Squadron (RAF Polebrook) The 97th BG conducted a total of 14 missions from Polebrook, attacking airfields, marshalling yards, industries, naval installations, and other targets in France and the Low Countries. The group sortied 247 aircraft, dropped 395 tons of bombs on Nazi-controlled territory, and lost 14 aircraft. On October 21, 1942, the 97th Bomb Group was transferred to the Twelfth Air Force in the Mediterranean theater and Polebrook was unoccupied until April 1943. 351st Bombardment Group (Heavy) On April 15, 1943, the 351st Bomb Group arrived at RAF Polebrook. It was assigned to the 94th Combat Wing, also at Polebrook. The group tail code was a "Triangle J". It's operational squadrons were: 508th Bomb Squadron (YB) 509th Bomb Squadron (RQ) 510th Bomb Squadron (TU) 511th Bomb Squadron (DS) Boeing B-17G-85-BO Flying Fortress, Serial 43-38465 of the 510th Bomb Squadron. This aircraft survived the war and returned to USA on 8 June 1945 Douglas-Long Beach B-17G-30-DL Flying Fortress Serial 43-38116 of the 509th Bomb Squadron. The 351st's first completed combat mission took place on May 14, 1943, when 18 B-17's targeted a German Luftwaffe airfield at Kortrijk, Belgium. As the war progressed, the 351st operated primarily against strategic objectives in Germany, striking such targets as ball-bearing plants at Schweinfurt, communications at Mayen, marshalling yards at Koblenz, a locomotive and tank factory at Hannover, industries at Berlin, bridges at Cologne, an armaments factory at Mannheim, and oil refineries at Hamburg. This is for FSX and you will need to have Ted Andrews's RAF Hangars Library and his other great RAF Buildings. They can be found on AVSIM. Search the FSX section for "Ted Andrews" - you'll find loads of his scenery object files for RAF airfields. Follow his instructions on how to install them.

RNAS Anthorn (HMS Nuthatch) - Cumbria, UK Download

File Description:
This scenery is a representation of RNAS Anthorn (HMS Nuthatch) prior to runway and taxiway upgrades completed in 1948. It is not 100% accurate and no claim is being made that it is. The scenery was made using ADE and is intended for use in FSX along with Horizon GenX VFR scenery but should work ok in Basic FSX.

Some History: Anthorn air field (also known as RAF Anthorn, RNAS Anthorn and HMS Nuthatch) was an airfield approximately 430 KM north-northwest of London The airfield was built in february 1918 as a Fleet Air Arm (FAA) airfield. It was abandoned after World War I ended, however. The RAF reinstated the airfield at the beginning of World War II as an emergency landing ground for nearby RAF Silloth. The site was taken over by the Royal Navy in December 1942, and renamed the site RNAS Anthorn. It was commissioned in September 1944 as 'HMS Nuthatch'. The airfield served as No. ARDU (Aircraft Receipt and Dispatch Unit), a unit that accepts aircraft from their manufacturers and prepares them for operational use.
The last official flight took off from the airfield in November 1957. It was then put on Care and Maintenance, before it closed down in March 1958. In 1961 the site was chosen to become a NATO VLF transmitting site for communicating with submarines. Construction of the site, by Continental Electronics of Dallas, U.S.A., began in 1962. The station was accepted on behalf of the MoD in November 1964.

RAF Stronsay Download

File Description:
Presenting RAF Stronsay- north of Scapa Flow, UK. Real airfield but redesigned as if it might have been used in WW II, but wasn't. Located about 30 nm north of Scapa Flow, site of the Royal Navy WW I & II ships. This will be a nice addition to Scapa Flow which should be arriving soon from a collaboration of a number of us. This scenery includes a bit of my wry humor, my first published try at making static planes except for the DC-3, John Stinstrom's vintage vehicles- very well done. Front gate guard house has many items inside including coffee pot and fry pan on the stove. The British personnel are from John Dutton in Malta who passed away in May, 2010. He is sorely missed. I do hope you enjoy this scenery. Bob

RNAS Twatt (HMS Tern) Download

File Description:
Opened on the 1 April 1941 RNAS (HMS Tern) was used throughout the second world war by various Sqns of the Royal Navy undergoing training. The station had 4 concrete runways with various hangers and the usual building associated with a military base. It was also the first unit in the UK to experience a helicopter crash when a Sikorsky helicopter getting ready for take off; hit a parked Blenheim. The UK and Iceland where involved in what was called the cod wars in the early 1970s, and NATO was concerned that it would have to remove its bases from Iceland should the dispute escalate between the 2 countries and there was talk of Twatt becoming a NATO base. However, this did not happen and the idea was dropped. There was also talk of the unit becoming a base for helicopters supporting the oil industry, however, as a result of the drop in oil prices during the 80s that idea was also dropped. Most of the airfield has been returned to farming now with only the unique Control Tower and a handful of other building remaining. NB: For more detailed history of this unit go to:- https://canmore.org.uk/site/81752/twatt-airfield
