| YUSL Useless Loop Salt Mine and works, Shark Bay, Western Australia |
|
File Description:
YUSL Useless Loop Salt Mine - now with bgl textures for ORBX. Useless Loop is located in the Southern Region of Shark Bay, Western Australia and is a closed company town, servicing the Solar Salt Operation Shark Bay Salt which has been in operation since 1968 and whose salt is renowned as the purest in the world. The first half of Useless Loop's unusual name was bestowed upon it by French explorer Henri-Louis de Saulces de Freycinet, who dubbed the area "Havre Inutile" ("Useless Harbour"), because he believed the inviting harbour to be entirely blocked by a sandbar. Model includes salt mining and village site. In real life the airstrip can be used "by permission" or in emergencies. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

| YPNW Pannawonica, Western Australia town and strip |
|
File Description:
YPNW Pannawonica with FSX default and ORBX tints condensed into one zipfile. The town of Pannawonica is an iron-ore mining town located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, near the Robe River, about 200 km south-west from Karratha. In 2006, it reportedly had the highest median weekly income of any town in Australia, due to the high income of its mine workers. Pannawonica was built in 1970 by Cleveland-Cliffs Robe River Iron (predecessor of the present Robe River Iron Associates) and was gazetted as a townsite in 1972. The township¢s name was derived from nearby Pannawonica Hill, named by a surveyor in 1885 after the corresponding Aboriginal placename which is said to mean "the hill that came from the sea". The traditional legend is that two local Aboriginal tribes were arguing over the ownership of the hill which was located by the sea. The sea spirit decided to resolve the dispute by moving the hill inland. As the hill was dragged over the land it left a deep indentation which became the Robe River. Pannawonica is one of a number of remote-area iron-ore-mining towns built throughout the Pilbara to house workers operating open-cut mines and the loading of ore trains. It is a 'closed town', having limited facilities for visitors, the company's accommodation being reserved for its staff and visiting contractors. Some visitor accommodation is available at the Pannawonica Tavern. Pannawonica is home to more than 800 people, comprising Robe and Pilbara Iron employee families, staff on fly-in fly-out (¢fifo¢) roster from Perth, and those involved in support services. It is accessible by road, rail and light aircraft. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip

| YRDY Reedy's Gold Mine, Western Australia |
|
File Description:
YRDY Reedy's Mine open cut was closed in 1997 but further exploration drilling is under way. Reedy is an abandoned town in the Murchison region of Western Australia. The town is located between Cue and Meekatharra in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Gold was discovered in the area by H Reed in 1899-1900 and a nearby well, Reedy's Well, was named after him. The well appeared on maps of the area in 1908 as a known water source. Further gold discoveries were made in the 1930s and sveral mines were developed. By 1933 the Cue-Day Dawn road board petitioned for a townsite to be surveyed and declared. Suggestions for the name of the town included Triton, Mathers and Reedy. The town was gazetted in 1934. If you fly over, you will note that the airstrip runs down the main streets of the old town. | YTTI Troughton Island, Western Australia |
|
File Description:
YTTI Troughton Island - ShoreAir operates Troughton Island airstrip as an alternate to Mungalalu-Truscott. It has a 980m x 30m unsealed runway. Troughton Island sits 6 metres above sea level on a natural reef. Troughton is managed by two people who spend one month at a time on the island. During that time they are almost completely isolated from the outside world. Although they are isolated they are not alone; previous occupants of the island brought in quails and children's pythons that were once pets that escaped their cages during a cyclone. Now there is a healthy population of snakes living off the quails. Today Troughton Island is maintained as an emergency landing area for aircraft that are unable to reach Truscott. It also serves as a landing area if Truscott is inaccessible due to weather conditions. The Bureau of Meteorology has a weather station on Troughton island. Mungalalu-Truscott aerodrome supports all the FPSO (floating production storage and offloading facility) operations in the WA and NT waters of the Timor Sea, while the alternate aerodrome at Troughton Island is 20 nautical miles north of the main air route to Timor Sea facilities. | YTUC Tuckabianna Gold Mine, Western Australia (Suspended) |
|
File Description:
YTUC Tuckabianna Gold Mine (Suspended). Project Tuckabianna is currently in advanced discovery stage and is owned by Silver Lake Resources. Gold was discovered at Tuckabianna in 1915 with intermittent small scale production from rich mineralised pods within the
hostbanded iron formation. During the period leading up to the commencement of modern open pit mining operations in 1988, total gold production was 53,000 oz at an average grade of 18 g/t Au. Between 1988 and 1997, approximately six million tonnes of ore was treated from the Tuckabianna area for a total production exceeding 500,000 oz Au. Most of this production came from 17 different open pits located within Silver Lake¢s project area. Exploration is finding many other minerals in the area such as copper, tungsten, silver and nickel. REQUIRES Blencowe_LibraryKit.zip
