Air Congo (Circa 1962) Douglas DC-6

File Description:
After the Republic of the Congo (Leopoldville; since 1965 Kinshasa) gained independence in 1960 from Belgium, the Belgian national airline Sabena continued to operate routes in the country. Plans for the formation of a Congolese airline were delayed due to the Congo Crisis. However, in January 1961 a protocol was signed with Sabena for the creation of a limited liability company to be named Air Congo. On 1961 the company was formed, and incorporated on 28 June with Sabena providing technical assistance and personnel. The initial fleet of Air Congo consisted of ex-Sabena Douglas DC-3s, DC-4s and DC-6s. The first international destinations served by the carrier were Entebbe, Luanda, Nairobi and Ndola. The last "short" DC-6 was disposed of in 1970. Original textures by Jens B. Kristensen. Repaint by Maarten Brouwer.

De Havilland DH-89 (VH-BKR)

File Description: This folder contains a repaint for the De Havilland DH89 Dragon Rapide by Dave Garwood. It shows Dominie #6929 VH-BKR, which was one of a number of Rapides flown by Connellan Airways in the 1940s and '50s, previously being RL947 with the RAF. It was actually Connellan's first and was the former RAF Dominie RL947. VH-BKR was re-registered in the Connellan series as VH-CLH in 1958, and withdrawn from use in 1962.. Connellan Airways (later Connair) was an Australian air services company that was founded by Edward Connellan and operated in northern Australia. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Dave Garwood.
