File Description: Tips and Tricks - Number 14. In this issue there is a discussion of the MS Traffic Tool Box addon which many may not know exists. Numerous recommendations for new and different things to do and audition are also included as well as the usual assortment of "How-To's", links to useful sites, and much, much more. There is also a segment reviewing some exceptional aircraft design work. In addition there is a "from the e-mailbag" department where we try to answer a question of general interest submitted by a reader. Updated indexes by John Burford in .xls (Excel) and .pdf formats for the entire series are included. As usual, I have attempted to include something of value for everyone, regardless of your experience level. Compiled in .doc and .pdf formats for your flying enjoyment by David "Opa" Marshall.

Severe Engine Fire Effects for FS2004

File Description:
These effects files (activated by the smoke system) allow you to visually simulate a severe engine fire on the eighteen default aircraft, as well as six non-default, freeware add-on aircraft including Milton Shupe's Beechcraft D-18s and Howard 500, Edward Cook's Vickers Wellington, Bob Chicilo's A6M2 Zero and TBF-1 Avenger (default CFS2 aircraft updated for use in FS9), and Gary Herbert's B-17G "Lazy Lucy". High-Altitude Contrail 50 Miles Long

File Description:
FS2004 High-altitude contrail 50 miles long. Use w/ default AI aircraft. High- altitude contrails are now enabled by MS for use on each aircraft, jet or prop, single or multi-engine, by using the FS9 version of the aircraft.cfg "EFFECTS" section to specify them. The temperature below which the contrails occur can also be defined in aircraft.cfg by the user. Included in d/l are new AI contrail, and revised aircraft.cfg w/folder structure to make a extra "AI" copy of default AC. This allows default(or other)contrail to be used for "hand" flying same aircraft. Easy manual installation with all new filenames.

File Description: Tips and Tricks Number 17 - 2005 Holiday Edition. This issue presents several suggestions to liven up your Holidays as well a several fine Tips which have been submitted by our readers. Since this will the be the last issue before the New Year, I have packed it fuller than Santa's bag with useful ideas and the "From the E-Mail Bag" department answers a question of general interest. Also included are two "Bonus Files" which readers have allowed me to present to all as a Holiday Gift. File Description: Tips and Tricks Number 21 - April 2006 Edition. This issue includes a brief introduction to online flying with a partner, as well as several new ideas to enhance your flying experience. Of special interest is a segment which explains how to make a backup DVD FS2004 installation disk, plus several other useful ideas and links to helpful utilities. Included is the popular "From the E-Mail Bag" department which answers a question of general interest and a section describing an aircraft of Historical interest. There is even a Tip or two to help improve your relationship with the one who thinks you spend far too much time "flying". DHC-2 Beaver Smoke With Control Gauge

File Description:
This xml gauge and effect package automatically controls the light smoke effect in the DHC-2 Beaver by simply accelerating the throttle. The DHC-2 Beaver will automatically emit a very light smoke effect at a Manifold Pressure reading of 32(+) or greater, depicting a hard running engine. Reducing the throttle level for cruising (MP30-32) or less for descents deactivates the smoke effect. Even though this xml gauge and effect file works perfectly well by itself, when used in conjunction with my dhc2_fx.zip, all the bases are covered. Smoke automatically engages for cold air temps and with this xml gauge, smoke engages as a result of high manifold pressure (eg. when taking off or climbing). The two work together very nicely without any conflict. Designed for the FS2004 DHC-2 wheeled Beaver by Steven Grant, Fred Choate, and Aaron Swindle. In the AVSIM library-- dhc2_04w.zip -- Also works with the DHC-2 De Havilland Beaver Amphibian v2 that was made for FS2002, but works equally well in FS2004. In the AVSIM library-- dhc2ampv2.zip -- The README file includes complete instructions.
