Empire Air Mail Scheme (EAMS) England to Australia 1938 Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
For FS2004 and FSX. In 1938 Imperial Airways (IA) and Qantas Empire Airlines (QEA) operated the extended Empire Air Mail Scheme (EAMS) between England and Australia using Short S.23 'C' Class "Empire" flying-boats. (Up to 1938 the EAMS service effectively terminated at Singapore). This flight gives you the information needed to operate the time-tabled route together with the variations that often applied between Southampton and Alexandria. "EAMS 1938" is an update to the original London to Sydney Flight created and uploaded in 2005. This new version has been made possible by additional route details discovered in Brian Cassidy's book "Flying Empires" (1996) and provides for a more accurate representation than did the original. The package contains PDF files for the documented info, some JPG files = one quite rare (the plan for the Groote Eylandt base) - and the BGL files for all the stopping locations.

"Imperial 109" - The journey of Imperial Airways S.23 "Caterina" in 1939, from the novel by Richard Doyle. Download

File Description:
In 1977 the novel "Imperial 109", by Richard Doyle, was published. The story is based on the flight of an Imperial Airways Short 'Empire' Class flying-boat, "Caterina", on its journey through Africa to Cairo and onwards through Europe to England and finally across the Atlantic to New York. When I read this novel just recently I couldn't help but think that it would make a wonderful Flight for Flight Simulator, and the fact that the characters and storyline was fiction was of no concern, because the airline, the aircraft and the route flown were real. I also considered that the best way to present this was to publish it as an unfolding story in blog format, in the same fashion as the Sir Alan Cobham flight around Africa which I had undertaken. Therefore I present you with "Imperial 109" for Microsoft Flight Simulator and you can take part by following and flying the updates as I present them online.

"Twenty Thousand Miles in a Flying-boat", by Sir Alan Cobham Download

File Description:
In 1927, Sir Alan Cobham, pioneer of aerial refuelling and adventuring aviator, undertook a survey flight around Africa. He was accompanied by his wife, Gladys, and four crewmen: Worrall, the second pilot; Green and Conway, engineers; and Bonnett, cameraman. The aircraft was a Short S.5 Singapore MkI, a twin-engined, single-fin, open cockpit version of the later four-engine, triple-finned, closed-cockpit Singapore MkIII which entered RAF service. There was only ever one MkI and when Cobham completed his journey it was returned to the Air Ministry, who had loaned it to Sir Alan. The adventurers departed Rochester, on the River Medway, in the morning of 17th. November 1927 and returned in May of 1928,after a trip of over 20,000 air-miles and one which involved numerous trials and tribulations, delays and frustrations. The book, published in 1931, provides in-depth detail of the flight so what I've done with this package is to create a blog that will provide updates for each day of the journey undertaken by Cobham and crew. To relive this epic, all you need to do is to go here:- http://henrycrun.spaces.live.com/default.aspx Remember...NO nav-aids or comms! :)

1945 - Harry Levy's Flight - Oban, Scotland to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanganyika in an RAF Sunderland MkV Download

File Description:
At 1805 hours GMT on April 2nd. 1945 an RAF Short Sunderland Mk.V took off from the waters of the flying boat base near Oban, in Scotland. With the war in Europe nearly over, men and materiel were being transferred to the Far East, where Japan continued to defend its home islands with great ferocity and determination. The ten-man crew of the Sunderland included young Harry Levy, the navigator. Harry, now a resident of Canberra, Australia, was a Sergeant in the RAAF attached to an RAF aircrew and was being transferred to Dar-es-Salaam to join 259 Squadron, RAF. Their trip was to take them some 6000 nautical miles, over a period of 20 days (with a lot of that being spent in Gibraltar whilst engine repairs were carried out) and with more than 48 hours spent aloft. They departed Britain in the springtime and arrived in east Africa in autumn. This is the FS9 recreation of that journey.

1926 - East Friesland Islands Download

File Description:
Set in 1926, this compact flight sees you flying a Junkers W-33b on your twice-weekly "milk-and-bread" run from Emden and through the islands, including Heligoland (or "Helgoland") before terminating at Borkum, the western-most island in the German Frisian islands. Your flightplan takes you in an anti-clockwise direction and you terminate at Borkum. There is no schedule...if you feel like having a chat with the locals en-route, feel free to do so, just so long as you get to Borkum to pick up the mail before the Post Office closes. :) Additional scenery files are required :- ostfr40.zip and helgol09.zip. Also the Junkers Ju-W33b aeroplane by Hauke Keitel and Rolf-Uwe Hochmuth:- juw33fs9.zip.
