P-51D 325th FG #52 "Shimmy IV"

File Description:
P-51D-20 44-72174 #52 "SHIMMY IV" was the assigned aircraft of Lt.Col. Chester L. Sluder, the CO of the 325th FG. 44-74936 is currently displayed in the US Air Force Museum, painted in the colors of this aircraft. Repaint of the Shockwave WWII Mustang by Jan Kees Blom, based on paintkit by John Terrell.

File Description:
This folder contains a reworked repaint for the Shockwave World War II Fighters P-51D Mustang, representing P-51D P-51D 44-13357 "TIKA IV" , which was flown by Lt. Vernon Richards of the 374 FS/361FG, 'the Yellow Jackets', based in Little Walden, UK. The repaint is by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Milan Zejdlik.

P51D NL51HY "Quick Silver"

File Description:
P-51D-30 45-11439 became N5071K with Norton M. Smith, Seattle, WA, 1963-1964. It was later registered as NL51HY with Barbara Hunter from Lewisburg, WV, July 14, 1998-2002 and is currently with Rancho Linda Vista LLC. Back in the air after a long restoration, it is painted in a striking paintscheme, with D-day stripes and post war roundels as "Quick Silver". Repaint of the Shockwave WWII Fighters P-51D Mustang by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by John Terrell.

F-51D West Virginia ANG

File Description:
Repaint of the A2A WWII P-51D Mustang as F-51D-30-NT 45-11582 using John Terrell's excellent paint kit. This aircraft was one of the last batches of P-51D's delivered to the USAAF before the close of WWII. After an uneventful post-war career its final allocation was to the 167th Fighter Bomber Squadron West Virginia ANG at Kanawaha County, West Virginia in 1953. It was withdrawn fron ANG service in December 1956 and transferred to the California Air Material Area in Sacramento. It was sold to Ed Maloney November 1957 and registered N5441V. It was one of the founding aircraft of the 'Planes of Fame' museum in Chino CA and has been in near constant use since then. It has been adorned with a variety of liveries during this time and currently flies as a 334th FS 4th FG Mustang flown by Major James 'Goody' Goodson in 1944. It has for many years been affectionately known as 'Spam Can' This repaint is based on a photograph of the aircraft in near-derelict condition carrying 2 small practice bombs, probably taken at Sacremento in 1957 before disposal. It therefore represents Spam Can in her final days in active USAF service.

P-51D 31st FG/307th FS MX-I "February"

File Description:
P-51D 44-13382 MX-I was the assigned aircraft of Lt. Jim Brooks, who flew "February" in the MTO during WWII. Brooks tallied 13.5 air victories with 2 more probables. He was assigned to the 307th FS in the 31st FG of the 15th AF on 30th March 1944. His first kill was 18th May 1944, a Romanian IAR 80 (FW 190 replica), and his last kill was on 29th August 1944, 2 Me109's. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. Repaint for the Shockwave WWII Mustang by Jan Kees Blom, based on paintkit by John Terrell.

P-51D 531st FS Iwo Jima '313

File Description:
P-51D 44-63934 was assigned to 1Lt John F. Galbraith. He joined the 531st FS/21st FG when he was flying p-39's in Hawaii, and converted to the P-38 and P-51. He was credited with killing nine Japanese soldiers on Iwo Jima during the 26 March 1945 banzai raid, before being wouded. He soon returned to the squadron and began flying VLR (very long range) missions. He most vividly recalls strafing Japanese ships that were closing in on a American submarine. He said he flew '313' because everybody else in the 531st FS was too superstitious to go near it. Repaint for the Shockwave WWII Fighters Mustang by Jan Kees Blom, based on paintkit by John Terrell.

P-51D 15th FG/78th FS Iwo Jima 100 "Jeanne VIII"

File Description:
P-51D-20 44-63973 was assigned to Major James M. Van de Hey, the CO of the 78th FS. He was a highly experienced veteran fighter pilot, who had scored his first victories flying a P-40 with the 45th FS in january 1944. He shot down a 'Dinah' on 7 april 1945, on the first VLR mission to Tokio. Jim van de Hey retired from the USAF in 1971 as a brigadier general.
