Re-upload. FSX/FS2004 DDA Douglas DC-4-1009 ZS-NUR/PH-DDS. This aircraft originally flew with South African Airways from 1946 till 1966, and a short interlude from 1968 till 1970, as ZS-AUA 'Tafelberg'. From 1966 till 1995 the DC-4 flew as a transport and later an electronics warfare aircraft with the South African Air Force, called 'Spook'. Its registration was 6901. In 1995 the aircraft was sold to Aero Air (Pty) Ltd as ZS-NUR. In 1995 the Dutch Dakota Association (DDA) purchased the ZS-NUR, christened 'Skymaster'. The DC-4 arrived at Amsterdam-Schiphol on 5 May 1996. In 1997 she was re-registered PH-DDS. Due to the extremely tight regulations in the Netherlands, the DC-4 returned to South Africa in 2002 as ZS-AUA on long-term lease, first to Springbok Flying Safaris, later on to Rovos Air where she is still current (2008). Re-upload. FSX/FS2004 KLM Douglas DC-4-1009 PH-TAR. This DC-4 originally flew with KLM as PH-TAR, named 'Rotterdam'. These repaints feature both the livery just after delivery before the DC-4 received her name, and the livery after she received her name. On 21 May 1946 this was the first KLM aircraft ever to fly the route Amsterdam-New York. From 10 April 1947 till 25 November 1948 the DC-4 flew with KLM West Indies Division as PJ-TAR. Already on 13 December 1948 PH-TAR was sold to Iberia. The aircraft was scrapped at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1975. These are textures only. You will require Jens B. Re-upload. FSX/FS2004 KLM Douglas DC-4-1009 PH-DBT. Built at Santa Monica, CA (c/n 42908). Powered by four 1,450 hp Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp 2SD13G or Pratt & Whitney R-2000-11M2 engines. This was the first 'real' DC-4 delivered to KLM on 16 March 1946, following the delivery of 18 ex-USAAF C-54 Skymasters. The aircraft was registered PH-TAT, named 'Twenthe'. On 29 March 1954 PH-TAT was re-registered PH-DBT and sprayed in an attractive modern version of the 'Flying Dutchman' livery. It was sold to Air France on 3 June 1958. After having flown with Trans Europe and Vargas Aviation it was impounded in July 1975 by the government of Niger and stored. The DC-4 has probably been scrapped since. These are textures only. Re-upload. FSX/FS2004 KLM Douglas C-54B-DC PH-DBZ. Built a C-54B-1-DC Skymaster at Chicago, IL, for the USAAF (c/n 10480). Powered by four 1,350 hp Pratt & Whitney R-2000-7 engines.After WW2 struck off and converted by Douglas at Santa Monica, CA (DC-4 conversion No. 67, powered by four 1,450 hp Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp 2SD13G engines). Sold on 15 January 1947 to Santa Fe Skyways as N90862 'Sky Chief Apache'. Sold on 24 May 1948 to KLM as PH-TEZ 'Zeeland'. Used as a freighter only. Re-registered PH-DBZ on 29 March 1954. Broken up in 1958. Remains sold on 20 April 1959 to Aviation Traders Ltd., Southend, UK. Fuselage used as a mock up for the ATL.98 Carvair. Tail section of fuselage used to replace damaged tail section of Carvair #1 in July-September 1961. You will require Jens B. Re-upload. FSX/FS2004 KLM Douglas DC-4-1009 PH-TAT. This was the first 'real' DC-4 delivered to KLM, on 16 March 1946, following the delivery of 18 ex-USAAF C-54 Skymasters. The aircraft was registered PH-TAT, named 'Twenthe'. This DC-4 and the sistership PH-TAP were the only DC-4/C-54's that wore this short-lived livery. From PH-TAR on KLM's DC-4's (and Skymasters) featured the famous 'The Flying Dutchman' livery. As PH-TAT, PJ-TAT and PH-DBT this aircraft served KLM in Europe and the Dutch West Indies until it was sold to Air France on 3 June 1958. Re-upload. FSX/FS2004 NGAT Douglas C-54A Skymaster. Immediately after WWII had ended in Europe, KLM director Dr. Albert Plesman travelled to the USA. He visited President Harry Truman and succeeded to persuade the President to have a batch of 18 Douglas C-54A Skymasters delivered from the Surplus Property Board, in order to (re-)establish several medium- and long-haul routes and - from February 1946 on - the KLM Indies route from Amsterdam to Jakarta, then named Batavia. For several reasons, a.o. the sensitive political situation with regard to Indonesia (by then still a Dutch colony called Netherlands East Indies), the aircraft were purchased by the Netherlands Government Air Transport and carried military roundels and serial numbers, although they were used as civil aircraft. Later on they were sold on to KLM and received civil registrations. These are textures only. You will require Jens B. Kristensen's great Douglas DC-4 & C-54 (dc4_v21.zip). Before and after World War II, KLM was a major European operator of the Douglas DC-3. The first DC-3, PH-ALI 'Ibis', entered service with KLM in October 1936. This made KLM the first operator of the DC-3 in Europe.
22 others would join before Nazi-Germany invaded the Netherlands on 10 May 1940 and occupied the country for five dark years. Those DC-3's present at Amsterdam-Schiphol, if not destroyed by bombs, were impounded by the Germans. Other DC-3's that happened to be elsewhere out of reach of the enemy found their way either to the Dutch East Indies where they served on the KNILM routes until the Japanese invasion in February 1942, or to England where they were leased by BOAC for the London (later Bristol) to Lisbon service.
Both PH-ALI 'Ibis' and PH-ARW 'Wulp' moved to England. Unfortunately they did not survive World War II. The 'Wulp' was destroyed in November 1940 when Bristol got bombed by
the German Luftwaffe. The 'Ibis' was shot down by Junkers Ju-88's on 1 June 1943 over the Bay of Biscay.
The repaints of PH-ALI and PH-ARW are based on the templates Mark Beaumont created for the MAAM-SIM Douglas DC-3 (passenger version), which were based on Jan Visser's original textures. PH-ALP 'Pelikaan' ('Pelican') ended up in the Dutch East Indies, was bought by KNILM (Royal Netherlands Indies Airways) as PK-AFV. On her last flight on 3 March 1942 from Batavia to Broome, Australia, Japanese Zero fighters shot at PK-AFV and set her alight. The aircraft succesfully crash-landed on the beach at Carnon Bay, Australia. The repaint of PK-AFV is based on the templates Mark Beaumont created for the MAAM-SIM Douglas DC-3 (passenger version), which were based on Jan Visser's original textures. These are textures only.
