Although a capable tactical bomber, it was not well suited for the shift to low level bombing brought on by improvements in Soviet air defense. The Breda 65 pioneered and developed the doctrine which would soon be known as 'blitzkrieg'. The Breda 65 flew combat missions over Spain with the 'Aviazione Legionaria' from August 1937. The faster Ba.65 A.80 (Series II), with new engine, more powerful supercharger, a constant speed airscrew and a slatted wing made its combat debut in Spain during October 1938. By September 1939 the Ba.65 A.80 was judged inadequate for prospective trans Alpine combat against France and surviving Regia Aeronautica Ba.65s were quickly relegated to Libya, where they were mostly squandered providing close air support for the Italian Army between June 1940 and January 1941. The final Ba.65 combat missions were flown by the mutinous Iraqi Air Force in support of the French and German funded Islamic insurgency of April/May 1941.

File Description:
This Parafoil glides, turns and responds to brakes very realistically. It is set up so that full brakes will not cause a stall but will provide a good landing flare (with practice) and yet give a safe steady descent at a lower speed than normal glide. This setup is preferred for beginners and for pilots ejecting from aircraft who may be incapacitated. The model and FD are by Tom Goodrick.

File Description:
At 4:30 A.M. on May 10, 1940, three Junkers Ju 52's took off from the Cologne airfields of Ostheim and Butzweilerhof, towing behind them three other aircraft that lacked motors. The first front service of a new weapon, the freight glider, developed by the DFS (Deutsche Forschungsanstalt fur Segelflug / German Research Institute for Sailplane Flight), had begun. A total of 41 DFS-230 freight gliders with 400 paratroopers were launched for this mission. It was their task to take the Belgian Fort Eben Emael near Maastrich. With this successful operation the crossing of the Albert Canal was secured and the cornerstone of Belgian defense fell in German hands.
These assault gliders were also used during the Krete invasion (1941). The DFS 230's last significant use was during the 'Eichen' operation: 10 assault gliders were used to deliver the group of hand picked commandos led by Otto Skorzeny against the Gran Sasso mountain-top hotel that was used to hold Mussolini. The Royal Italian Air Force (Regia Aeronautica) received from Luftwaffe, during 1941, almost 20 DFS-230 and 4 Gotha Go-242 assault gliders. These aircrafts were used only for pilot training until 09/1943.
