In my search for sounds that would be (nearly) matching the real sounds of the Douglas C-54/DC-4 and the Aviation Traders ATL.98 Carvair (vehicle ferry conversion of the C-54 and DC-4), I struck on the DC-3 Sound Pack compiled
by Des Braban several years ago. Although intended as a DC-3 sound set, it doesn't quite sound like the Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp C-series (aka R-1830) engines which powered the majority of the DC-3/C-47/C-53 aircraft. Instead it sounds much more like the Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp D-series (aka R-2000) engines which powered the C-54/DC-4 and, later on, the Pan American converted Hi-Per DC-3, the EC-47Q, the DHC-4 Caribou and ATL.98 Carvair. In order to make the sound set appropriate for the four engined C-54/DC-4/Carvair, I slightly altered the sound.cfg by just doubling the number of engines and copying some existing lines. Nothing else has been changed. All the wav files remained unaltered and no wav files have been added. The result, however, is a full sound which is very close to that of the real C-54/DC-4/Carvair. In order to get the proper sound, you will require Des Braban's DC-3 Sound Package (dc3sndpk.zip). This is a repaint of the FS2004/FS2002 MAAM-SIM Passenger DC-3 in a specially commissioned livery for the 2010 DC-3 World Rally, organised by the team at DC-3 Airways VA. Visit www.dc3airways.com for information about this exciting event commencing October 2, 2010. Thereafter, you can keep this lovely lady as a souvenir of how well you flew! Requires a base install of the FS2004/2002 R4D-6/DC-3A package available from Mid-Atlantic Air Museum Simulations at www.maam.org. Can be used in FSX with the upgrade files available from the same site. This livery is also available for the default FS2004 DC-3 as wr10_fs9.zip, and for the default FSX aircraft as wr10_fsx.zip. File Description:
In October 1968 the Dutch charter operator Transavia Holland became involved in the relief airlift from Sao Tome to Biafra. Initially only the DC-6 PH-TRA and the DC-6B's PH-TRD and PH-TRL were despatched, followed in November 1968 by DC-6 PH-TRB. Eventually the entire DC-6 fleet served on this operation while for its regular charter operations Transavia started using the Sud-Aviation SE-210 Caravelle jets. In 1969 all DC-6's were sold to Flughjalp and received Icelandic registrations (DC-6 PH-TRA became TF-AAD, DC-6 PH-TRB became TF-AAE). With the exception of TF-AAD and TF-AAE, both featured here, which were both written from use resp. in November 1969 and June 1969 after having sustained damage at the airstrip near Uli, the Sixes kept soldiering on till the Biafran Airlift came to an end in January 1970. These are textures only. You will require Jens B. Kristensen's FS2004 Douglas DC-6 (dc6_v20.zip). Original textures by Jens B. Kristensen. Repaints by Maarten Brouwer.
