Alaska Bush Scenery: Coghill Lake
File Description: Situated off College Fiord at the upper end of Prince William Sound, Coghill Lake is conveniently positioned for stopping off en-route between the Anchorage & Valdez areas. It's the actual location of a holiday cabin owned by the US Forest Service which can only be reached by floatplane, however I've added 2 airstrips to the area for extra interest. Coghill's main landing strip is sandy & partially overgrown, but has a good available length of 635m/2100' and some low-intensity edge lights. Ample parking for visitors is provided in a separate ramp area amongst the trees, reached via a basic but lit & signposted taxiway. Adjacent access by floatplane is possible using the small lagoon, as well as by College Fiord itself for larger loads. The other strip, a mile southwest across the river, only gets seasonal use by agricultural aircraft for spraying the local conifer plantations; its narrow gravel runway is slightly shorter at 588m/1930' & is a more challenging proposition with the surrounding trees and heavy brush all encroaching on the landing strip. Includes 2 versions: 1 for Eddie Denney's FS2002 mesh (recommended as this makes the airstrip profiles uneven), and another for both Eddie Denney's FS2000 mesh and the default mesh.

Alaska Bush Scenery: Stony River Bend & Old Stony
File Description: Here's your big chance to take-off and land using a curved airstrip. Stony River Bend is located just west of Merrill Pass, very close to Tom Fica's cabin at Two Lakes (part of his 'Merrill Pass' scenery add-on). The bumpy dirt runway - becoming slightly overgrown and prone to waterlogging - is marked out with wooden posts (lit at night) and presents a unique challenge: one that I haven't really sorted out just yet! There's a small settlement just up a log-lined trail from the airfield with a gravel service track connecting with a basic NDB/DME facility to help out with night or low visibility approaches. Although Stony River Bend is fictional, it has been based loosely on a real life runway at Elk City in Idaho. Three miles downstream is another simple backwoods strip called Old Stony - the narrow gravel runway here is conventional, but it's probably in an even worse state of repair. Designed for use with Eddie Denney's FS2002 mesh of Alaska, but the scenery is usable without it.

Alaskan Cities
File Description: These files are 41 cities and towns in Alaska that Microsoft left out. They are small in size and easy to install. I have used Topozone.com to see where the cities and towns are in relation to the airport. They are as accurate as I can make them, but they are not supposed to be accurate.
This scenery was created with John Cillis's LandClass Assistant.

Alaskan Commuter #9: North Alaskan Skies 2002
File Description: Enhancements to 50 land-based airports in Northern Alaska. Includes static aircraft and additional airport structures as well as easy to install landclass files. These landclass files add small villages and stands of conifers that blanket the surrounding areas. The experience can be further enhanced with autogen tree replacements by either Ed Truthan or Gerrish Gray (download separately). This will greatly improve the look of autogen conifers, and multiply their numbers significantly. The results are realistic approaches over thickly forested areas into bush airports with small nearby communities, and it is fairly gentle on frame rates. If you download this scenery, and if you are not using these replacement trees, I recommend (no, I insist) that you download one of those utilities now. Look for "conifers.zip" by Ed Truthan or "MSTrees2.zip" by Gerrish Gray.

Alaskan Gold Mine Airstrips: Yankee Creek 2, Ganes Creek, & Ester Creek
File Description: 3 very primative landing strips in Alaska that are all bumpy and/or on a slope. They're just west of McGrath in an area popular with gold hunters. Ganes Creek is surrounded by trees & a little on the short side but otherwise fairly easy. The Yankee Creek 2 strip is longer, but on a 6% slope with a camber at its upper end. Ester Creek is slightly steeper at 9% in gradient, but with a more open approach path. A set of Eddie Denney's mesh of Alaska is required because the airstrips are themselves part of the terrain: the scenery was designed using the FS2002 mesh but the FS2000 version should also work OK. Also requires Gerrish Gray's tree library (trees_v3.zip).

Alaskan Wilderness Camps
File Description: Alaskan Wilderness Camps.
Five tent-camps located in the remote Alaskan
Bush. All have short narrow "runways" with
interesting approaches. For the less adventerous
floatplanes can be used. Great locations for
hunters, fishermen, hikers or if you just want
to get away from it all for awhile. Sound files
for Lago's FSSoundScape are also included.
