File Description: Douglas C-47A-75-DL, (c/n 12478) Delivered to RAF under the 'Lend/Lease' scheme as Dakota Mk.IIIA, KG443 on 9 February 1944. Flown to South Africa 26 February 1944. Served with 28 Squadron in 1945, 27 and 44 Squadrons in 1946, 25 Squadron until 1975-79 and thereafter 35 Squadron until 1992. On 28-29 December 1952 while with 28 Squadron flew Dr J L B Smith from Durban to Pamanzi in the Comoros Islands and back to recover the rare Coelacanth fish. Currently on display at SAAF Museum, AFB Ysterplaat in Cape Town.
