File Description: P38v1.1 for X-Plane 6.4-6.6. Improved paint job, panel and other minor improvements. The P38 developed a a result for a fast long range fighter requested by the US; most manufacturers ignored the call for proposals because of the ridiculous requirements. Lockheed, using the brilliant and unconventional ideas of their designer, Kelly Johnson (who later went on to help design the SR-71 Blackbird among others), came up with a plane that was totally unique for the time. It had two engines, used liquid cooled inlines instead of radials, tricycle landing gear, provided staggering operating ranges and payloads yet was able to maneuver capably with single engined fighters. The test models of the P38 made more "firsts" than any other plane both on paper and in the air.
