The city is dominated by the Cyclops' Faraglions: eight picturesque basaltic rocks that, according to legend, were launched by Polifemo at Ulysses during its escape. Not far from the coast (about 400 m away), there is the largest island named Lachea, identified with the Homeric Island of Goats.
