File Description: Registration HL7442. On September 1, 1983, this aircraft, heading for Seoul from Anchorage, inexplicably drifted into Soviet airspace and was shot down, killing all 269 aboard, including a U.S. Congressman. This incident was one of the hot spots of the Cold War, and many questions remain unanswered to this day; as a result, many alternate explanations have surfaced. I prepared this aircraft in the memory of the victims, hoping for the complete truth to be revealed. As a result of this crash, Korean Air Lines shortened its name to Korean Air, and discarded this Japan-Air-Lines-carbon-copy look in favor of a more distinctive light blue/silver/white look in 1984.
